This 16v makes the dream noise!...my high comp 16v made 160kw and 233nm (50mix) at jvs but did not sound anywhere near as good...I wouldn't sacrifice the smiles😁 for more power...jump in the 20vt if you need to kill a few egos😎. As always great content💯!!
🤣 you hit the nail on the head. The rare case where the noise will get chosen over power. I love the way this car sounds. And having the 20vt that is fast but sounds really boring makes me appreciate this a lot more. 160kw and 233nm at JVS is proper. 😎👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Very well done.
@@lowdl Reassuring to hear this coming from a 20vt guy😄...all the more reason for me to push on with my NA 20v build also...please get her ready for some hills and maybe invite Andrew again...would be bliss to watch and listen😍
@@kyleg4296 Trying to keep up with Andrew is going to challenging. He's got a powerhouse under the hood of that Jazz now. But we'll make missions. I'm trying to convince him to join me at track days. We can have proper battles on track. 😬
Loving the content and the progress. All the best knocking off the defects and the joy that each little section brings out of the tiny details restored. Mk2 love is a special kinda love.
It's something I need to look into. I don't mind the dizzy but there's a misfire after 6k rpm that's bothering me and I think it's because of that. This block doesn't have a internal trigger wheel so I'll need to add one. Hopefully I don't need to do it soon but it's something to consider going forward.
Hi Lorenzo, what if you change to longer ram tubes? Or maybe it is yearning for that 2.0 tdi crank? Also, I always thought the heat gun on plastic is a myth. The bumpers are looking good! I have gas plumbing torch, going to look for a faded piece of plastic and check if it works. haha
Longer ram tubes would help pick up the torque but won't really make more power. The 1.9 TDI crank is good. Will help a lot but it also puts the bearings under more stress. The heat gun worked very well on the rear bumper. It was a huge transformation but the rest of the trim didn't take as well. Front bumper was painted so it did nothing there. I was bummed. Haha.
Your car sounds fantastic! Speak to the Gti challenge guys, Oom Deon used to biild really good 16V engines so maybe someone can point you his way. Also, maybe some hard polybushes for engine and gearbox mountings as your engine does move quite a lot under load. Other than that, you created something special😉
Thanks for the tips. There's a lot I would like to learn from the Challenge guys. I'll keep Oom Deon in mind as I meet these guys along the way. About the mounts. Front mount is solid and the rear has a poly insert. It's only the gearbox side that needs to be polyed. When driving I don't feel the engine moving a lot but on the dyno it looks rowdy. Lol.
Lekker Lorenzo, you've made good progress so far. Real eargasmic noises coming from that 16v. All of the best getting the 16v set up for track days. This is real fun and addictive better than drag racing tbh. Shot for the content.
@@chadbenjamin8118it should be good. I'm very curious to see what it does to my bank account as well. I can compare it to drag racing. Should be interesting to see.
@@lowdl let me just say it is quite expensive(depending on your goals) However I wouldn't focus too much on power output but suspension geometry and braking system of the vehicle, the rest will follow.
@@chadbenjamin8118 Yes, I'm trying to not get bogged down on power. It makes enough. Need to focus on braking. And suspension is going to be very interesting. These budget coilovers aren't going to get me very far but I'm curious to see the limits.
Been trying to respond to this comment 3 times now. Hopefully this one works. I decided against the TDI crank initially because I've heard bad things about how they chow bearings. This engine will be at high rpm for long periods of time so I chose longevity over power. But that crank and BMW piston is a good combo. Most big powered 16v's run that.
That would probably be a smart thing to do. It's something I considered from the get go but the reason for the build was to use all the parts I had stashed away. We'll see how I get one. Based on what happened with the 20vt, a lot can change in a year. Lol.
@@lowdl i sometimes think to myself, the cost of a build can be crazy, and the goal is to have something exciting to drive and race, Just go buy a car that has potential or a engine that has the potential, and build from there
@@Evs_ProjectsSometimes it's more about the journey. With what I spent on this car, I could have bought something way more capable for less. A Mini Cooper S or Clio RS would have been an epic track car but would make for really boring content. Lol.
Just clean the ports up and blend the seats in, that should make a bit of a difference, I actually want to go throttles now, I think Im maxed out on the abf intake now.
That's a good place to be. What power does it make at the moment? I'll need to see if this head gets some work or if I get a stock head and have that done.
What cams you running ? I know its 288's but what make is it or is it cut cams ? I know you mentioned your comp is over 11 , i might be wrong , Changing to 45m itbs will definitely make is feel more alive midrange where the cams are actually working, which could most definitely increase the power . Im struggling to believe that a stock abf made more power like come on now , make it make sense lol . But other than that car sounds great , a real stress reliever .
It's Estas cams with what we think is a schrick grind. It's got higher lift than we usually see for 288's. Comp is around 11. We will test 45's but I'm hearing mixed reviews from people that tried it. A stock ABF just works so well. The head, cams and intake combo is really good. But we'll get it figured out and hopefully retain the sound it makes. 😅
@lowdl Im sure you guys will get it sorted man , it should definitely make more power . Quick question how is the timing on the car ? Did you guys have issues ? Cam timing to be exact?
Is the head stock ? If so its about right for throttles and mild cams. I wouldnt spend money modding a 9a or kr head , maybe look for a abf head and mod that head slowly then when its ready just swap them over. Prices are crazy tho if you do find a abf head but worth it imo. Or Fsi head like your dads car would be crazy but I'm not sure if the intake and exhaust etc will fit on and what else is needed to fit so probably easier to get a abf head
The head is mostly stock. The ports were gently massaged. Intake was roughed up to promote atomisation. But the combustion chamber was opened up. Getting a ABF head is the move, I agree. I'm sure a head will come up some time but finding a stock one might be challenging. I don't think I'll go FSI unless a really good deal comes up for a Dave Ingle motor. That I would do without hesitation. But I don't want to pay the school fees.
With the bumper thing i did the same thing but it turns white again after awhile someone said i should try putting tyre shine or d 28 on while its still warm after heating it up
I put tyre shine on after but it wasn't warm. After a few days it dried up really blotchy. So I'll see what it's like after a wash and reapply the tyre shine. Or maybe I'll use the Meg black trim polish I've got. See what that does.
The numbers just says we've got some work to do. But it's not the be all and end all. I genuinely enjoy driving it and I'm very keen to get it on track to see what it's like.
@@lowdl Thanks for replying my guy. I've had a few 16v's with similar work, and I made a fair bit more. You should ABSOLUTELY be making more than stock ABF power. I know the cam timing is an absolute pig to get right, it takes forever (internal and external vernier gears, even worse with the stock intake manifold), but there is something off. You're missing 10 or 15 kw somewhere. Going to be nasty when you get it dialed in. Sounds insane, on the plus side, and your ratios are better than anything I ever had. Keep going my guy. Love your vids.
@@garronahYou're on the money. The gear ratios is my only saving grace right now. It's really good. We will figure out why it's down on power. There's definitely a lot more in it. But when you're throwing together a bunch of parts, sometimes they don't play nicely together. Lol.
Am not sure why you expect the same power ,dynoing the car on a different day.totally different temperature and fuel mix an sure is enought to make a difference.imo
I wasn't expecting that same power. I was expecting more and less torque. Based on other cars we had on both dynos. There wasn't enough varience for the power to be down more than 5kw. So something wasn't right.
It was really difficult coming up with a name for it. But I figured since they're kinda twins, Leah and Mia works together. And someone suggested it on a video a while back. I need to find that comment.
@@capturehorizon1 Oh, I've tried. 🤣 I can't turn it for some reason. I think the column needs to be adjusted. That's on the 20vt that's it's skew. It's straight on the 16v.
@@capturehorizon1The amount of things I need to sort out on this car and that's whats bothering you. 🙈 Please dm me a photo of your car so I can find things you need to sort out as well. Seeing that were helping each other out.
