Watch that hydraulic pump. When the seal goes out it dumps directly into the engine crank case where the distributor/hydraulic pump shaft goes into the front spline. It will run still, but you'll lose hydraulics and it will eventually stall out as the engine gets flooded from the bottom with hydraulic fluid. Knew a guy who ran his 350U like that thinking there was no power steering. He sold it to me despite me explaining that there was a power steering unit, and he had a bad leak somewhere or bad pump. Crank case oil/hydraulic fluid coming out of the dipstick hole was a good clue Shes running great now. Good luck ! they dont make em this easy to fix anymore
Just got one, It has a Blackwelder high lift, very heavy duty. Working to get it running, been sittin for a few years, since 2016 I like yours, it seems lighter and the web site says it's 42hp
I have owned 2 300's and a 350 Hi Utility and they are the best tractors made. The 3pt cannot be beat by anyone even today. Power down makes it one heck of a handy tractor.
I agree Roger, I love the power down is great. You put a plow down and it stays down. Getting ready to chisel plow inside my greenhouse with the 300. Thanks for watching
just bought my first tractor, a 56 300U. Excellent well maintained shape, new tires, heavy duty Wagner front loader, and a 3 point quick hitch. I'd be interested in knowing what you paid for yours. Thanks for the video. God Bless and Keep You. If you don't want to publish your buying price, I could probably contact you through your page's contact tab. I'll do that instead. Thanks again. No, I don’t mind. I picked mine up for 1500.00. It needed some TLC and a few things, but everything mechanical seems to be ok. I think adjustments and the carburetor were the big thug. I do have a couple of carburetor rebuild videos on here as well. Great to hear from someone up your way, God Bless and keep us up to date on your old red tractor.
We had one dor years good machine but man you clutch leg will be bigger than right leg hard pushing and steers hard you arms will be built up. ,the 350 had improved clutch linkage worked much easier....lot of 300s seen backhoe loader duty commercially even our state Pa. bought them for roadwork and general duty......fyi underneath trans will see a plate with bolt in it to seasonally disconnect your pto, help with wear and gets rid of the pto whining. ps grease the throwout bearing least once a season also. Like a billy goat too won't believe the Pa.hillsides we mowed with her . happy tractoring
Thanks Steve, funny you would mention PA. I just purchased a used original manual and the info written in the from is a dairy farm in PA. I’ll be making a video with that manual in it soon. I’m fixing to start servicing and adjustments soon. Drove her today and amen on the clutch leg. Thanks for watching.
I like to take an old tool and put it back to work...as in the case of my garden hoe...belonged to my paternal GPA. I am a 1942 model myself,so imagine how old the hoe is!
It does have a rain flap and I keep it under cover as well. Just extra insurance I guess. I’ve seen to many of these old tractors get water or worse mice get down that exhaust pipe. I don’t put the bucket on while it’s hot. Thanks for watching
That’s a nice little tractor. Glen says it would be super handy around here too and agrees that it’s nice to have a piece of machinery that you can fix yourself. 😊🚜
I don’t know how these big farms operate with the price on some of this equipment and fixing it. Hope y’all are well, heard they were opening back up up there.
Sounds like the carb is filling with gas and running until the gas runs out. I would check the filter in the gas line and the fuel bowl first. Most of the time there is rust in these old tanks and until you get that rust out it will keep stopping up. Just a guess, hope this helps. I have a carburetor rebuild video as well.
Thanks for watching Tom. Mines in the garage right now getting a new governor spring and a new set of gauges. I’m considering a paint job down the line but I’m putting this old girl to work plowing some land this fall. Keep me posted on yours.
I’m looking to get parts for my 300 international tractor looking to get back brakes don’t know where to purchase them at do you know where I can get them at
Hi Preacher, I had the ignition right off the 300U this weekend, I figured it out completely. There is a sure way to get the timing right that I saw Pete demonstrate on the Just a Few Acres channel. I had the wrong button inside the cap that was not snug on the shaft! Now it's running much smoother with better throttle. BTW, those holes on the side of the bell housing (3 each side for mounting a bucket) are open to the inside of the casting! I ended up putting some 1.5" inch bolts in those (do not turn in more than that) to keep water out.
That’s all good information to know. Got a video coming out on some repairs and maintenance. About time to stir some ground down here. Hope you guys are ok up there, I’ve been keeping up with all that doins going on with our friends to the north. Stay safe.
@@fitzpreacherfarm6826 Well, cheating and lying openly is not sustainable in the long term. If you want to know what will happen down there in a month, just check the news up here today lol. We're like a pilot for every playbook swindle.
@@___PK__ oh I’m watching, we know what’s coming. The cheating took place here and we are getting the result now. Good always wins over evil in the end.
Need help working on 300 utility International. Bought one with the PTO shaft bent on it. Got down as far as ready to take the heavy cast iron piece off the back seems like it's still got a bolt in it around the bottom somewhere coming from the insides anybody know if they do. Been praying on it trying to get it to break loose from the rear end housing but it still seems tight. Any help would be appreciated
Howdy Preacher- glad you got the old tractor. It’ll sure come in handy around there. Old stuff was built to last by people who took pride in what they made. Take care and God bless y’all
Great to see your "new" 300 Utility. I grew up on the IH Experimental Farm south of Hinsdale IL. Dad worked there as a dairyman when they were still making milking equipment. I do have a bucket milker but the red rubber they used in those days is pretty much deteriorated. Neat to have one as Dad worked with them through my growing up years in the 40's. We lived on their farm so I watched a lot of the IH history unfold, which included the development of the transition from Alphabet series into the number series, especially your tractor. Their farm, and neighboring farms, were used to test their equipment making engineering changes when problems were found through actual farm use. Yes I've been close to red tractors all my life, even though I'm not into that business as I go through my 80's. Enjoy use of that 300 Utility, JimM. .
Thanks for watching James, my dad was a sharecroppers son in southeast Missouri. Funny you would mention a dairy farm, I just ordered an original maintenance manual, it has all the information in from of who bought that tractor originally in Pennsylvania, a dairy farm. I’ll share that in another video. Stay safe and free James, God bless.
I got some parts from Steiner. I found some used stuff from a man named Weade in Wisconsin ( I think that was his name), I believe he has a salvage yard. So far I have found about everything I need. I have a repair video coming soon. Thanks for watching
