Nik i feel you brother.. Last year i cut my achilles tendon and i had to stay home for 3 months.. Being a mechanic as a day job -as you- i had nothing to do staying home. At the end of the third month i had fixed 2 silverfaces and 1 blackface amp. And they stayed.. This was the best cure ever!

my 57 strat has the same crazing on the fret board... i love how the 57's check on the finish. Congrats on the finished product

She looks amazing and sounds gorgeous! Beautiful tones a plenty... It's always an inspiration to have another great guitar. And like tattoos you usually need to have a few. Hope she accompanies you on some great gigs and adventures. Enjoy

I need to go back and watch some of the other videos when you were working on it but that strat is a beautiful piece of American history and craftsmanship. Wonderful guitar! Love the tone of the pickups, the finish......and chocolate brown is it brother. Spot on with that comment and observation about old '50's strats. Great job, take care, praying that this guitar gives you some peace and enjoyment after your loss. That guitar paired with any old tweed Fender amp and you have a slice of heaven. No pedals required!

Nice job Nik! There's something really special about 56 & 57 V shape neck profiles. For me that was a high water mark for Fender neck design. That one sounds just terrific. Reminds me of the first time I saw Ronnie Earl just blazing on a 50's maple neck. Clear and crisp tone that cuts through everything. Glad the two tone burst worked out well. I have seen many of these guitars over the years and you are right about that special shade of semi transparent dark brown on those guitars. Buddy Guy is probably still looking for his ole 57 caster that got stolen many years ago!

The reason the end of the neck is kicked up is because of the cardboard shim Fender used to put in the neck pocket. I've seen this problem on many old Fender necks. If a shim is used (and one is often necessary for the correct neck angle /saddle height) it's important to punch 2 holes in the shim for the 2 neck screws closest to the pickguard to pass through when attaching the neck. Leveling the frets was a very legitimate fix.

Your guitar really couldn't have turned out any better and it sounds incredible. Ed and I thoroughly enjoyed watching this series and I'll be coming back to it for inspiration when I finally get around to restoring my 57. Greetings from Wales - Huw

Very nice guitar! My very first, was a 1954 Stratocaster my divorced father gave me for Christmas of 1963. LOVED that guitar. But July of 1965, it went out the back window of my brother's station wagon. Don't get too attached to things of this world, because they can leave us quickly. Better to find Jesus and become attached to Him. He lasts for eternity.
