Genius performance. I think it's hilarious because they're a British band, yet the Brits thought their performance was hacked. Obviously you aren't a 1975 fan if you thought it was hacked. Loved how they took The Sound video and applied it live, in front of all their critics who hated them over the years. It's a big fat screw you as we pick up Best British Band! Genius!! Yes because they're British we get their music videos played on a loop in every room and we're all extremely well versed in their nuances and inside jokes. Give me a fucking break. People can enjoy bands without stanning them....
I was just making reference to the British thinking their performance was hacked. That's all. I wasn't insinuating that everyone should love them. There's a lot of bands in the US that are popular that I think are terrible. Everyone is entitled to their own music tastes :)

Literally the sane here haha, first song I heard was chocolate and it was cringey I hated it and I can say after listening to other songs it has grew on me and I even love chocolate
As a child of the 80s, I totally appreciate the music of The 1975. The singer is charming in a Robert Smith meets Prince sort of way. Who cares if the music "means" anything? There's a time and a place for each type of music, and I appreciate people who put themselves out there and make music for every mood, person, occasion, etc. Thank you.

I've seen them live before and mattys voice was different in this, not bad just different. I've heard some people say he was nervous and thats why he was smoking weed under the table with George, and you could see when they went on stage to accept the award matty was jittery, that's why George had a hand on him, to help calm him down. But also the microphones for these award shows are always terrible. and yes, he CAN sing live, just look at Vevo present live at O2, or any other performance really.
GothRebecca I love this band, and they are good performers for sure! He sounded nearly flawless at the O2 because they tuned up his vocals in post production. He's not a bad singer, I actually really like his voice, but he's not a strong singer, and the smoking and drinking surely doesn't help. They're such a good band, wish he would take care of himself more!
I remember watching this live exactly 3 years ago i was 10 at the time and i got proper scared cos i thought my tv got hacked. I’m a massive fan of them now from when i watched that performance and was clueless as to who they were
Not my favorite live performance from them tbh it kinda annoys me that matty doesnt sing the entire song... the playback was so obvious in the chorus and i felt like the music was better than his singing :// (idk if it was a mic problem tho) and i am a HUGE fan of the 1975 and tbh if i would've been there i'd have enjoyed it a lot... but anyways, they all looked so so so fit and Adam's solo was 10/10. Also, Ross, please marry me.
all live tv performances have playback, i get what you mean but on occasions like this I prefer that they deliver a great all-round spectacular performance rather than focusing on having perfect vocals. of course matty can do better with his singing but the energy in that place must've been unreal ;)
For the record, there's no playback audio of matty's voice in this. There's the choir vocal track playing along with the actual choir but there's no playback audio of his voice like most pop acts do. His voice is getting pretty shaky though, but they have toured for over a year straight so that's inevitable. Their sound engineer also mixes his vocals lower than you'd normally hear. They feel it's part of their "sound"
John Laco as much as I love the 1975 there is definitely playback. He's still singing 99% of the song but you can definitely here the backing vocal track. I personally think they do it in a perfect way. It's still live but it adds the layers from the studio version.
I feel like Matty isn't a traditionally amazing singer, and his strength comes through in his delivery and performance rather than hitting the perfect notes.

I love it!! they've come so far! and that is what all those negative texts are about during their bit! those were reviews/ commentary of the band from critics when they first came about and debuted their first album, and so on, til now! it's kinda their way giving the middle finger(?), saying look how far we've come and what we're doing, what we've achieved. it's great that they got the award, they so deserved it.
GUYS the pink screen from the sound music video is like the jokes and insults that people made for them then they show it when they perform is just like "yeah whatever look at us performing as the BEST BRITISH GROUP duh" i am beyond proud
Love this band. Not usually my taste but I can appreciate the self deprecating commentary in this video bc I've thought most of those things listening to their music.
Came back to watch this after 2019 performance upload and it STILL cracks me up people thought they were hacked!!! I wonder if I'll ever forget that happened 😂😂
I love how everyone from the choir on stage to the audience are just jamming out and having a great time while they labast pretentious critics. Good music is good music if you enjoy it. Nuff said.
I don't know what the band intended, but what I love about this song, is that people who fall in love aren't always perfect or beautiful or kind or like all the fairy tales we were told about love as kids. Love is love, even if you're a junky or broke or self centered or insecure or imperfect in any way. If you can hear someone's heartbeat when they are near, that is love. (and yes, I know it's a metaphor. But a very beautiful one.)

I’ll be honest id never heard of them when they performed here. It was the “hack” rumour on the internet that got me interested. Now I own both their albums all their eps and seen them live. What I’m trying to say is, it’s probably the best marketing scheme I’ve ever seen
