Matty is so attractive. it's not even his face that I find attractive it's the way he carries himself and how he writes songs and how he plays the guitar that just make him so attractive to me.

What I love about this band is that with every new song I discover I have no idea of what style it's gonna be. So versatile.

This song is so nostalgic to me because I remember listening to it at 16-17 and thinking "why can’t she be what he needs? 17 is not that young." now I’m 23 and miss this feeling of confidence lol

I'm 50 years old and really don't have any connection to, or love of, any music that came out post 1990 (a few exceptions)...but this is an incrediblly well crafted song. It just sticks with me. Kudos to my daughter for playing it in the car against my wishes.

the oddest thing about matty healy's accent is that his talking accent is nowhere near as strong as his singing accent, like he sounds fairly normal and understandable but as soon as he sings he's almost incomprehensible. this is coming from a brit too, like literally even i don't know where the thickness of the accent comes from

If you're a drummer I'm hoping you're hearing the brilliance of the drum performance on this track. How dancy the hi-hats are doing so much without taking up any actual space in the mix more than normal.

Just to make it clear, Matty said that the video was supposed to be a mockery of pop videos in general. When some people heard girls for the first time it was heavily criticized as people started accusing The 1975 to conforming to what music society listened to and how the label was forcing them to change the way they played music, so they made the video as 'pop' as it could be, and at the beginning the colours flicker and Matty says 'we're not a pop band' to mimic what some people were saying.

I always leave the same message even though I know Matty will never see it. Thank you for getting clean from your addition. I’m 70 years old I’ve seen so many talented young people die from drugs, alcohol, and mental illness it breaks my heart. Matty breaks character at 2:44 to the give the model direction on what she should do and they kept the cameras rolling and ended up keeping that little clip in the finished vid… I dunno why but thats my FAVORITE part of the whole entire video.

i remember listening to this on the way home trying to make curfew or already late. it made me feel like i had this secret being a teenager who had their own life. i felt like such an adult listening to it. i was rebellious and 16. i dated boys who i shouldn’t have. i felt so grown up. this was the first song I heard from The 1975 and let me tell you i was SO confused with this mv. I saw these guys, all dressed in black, with boots and leather jackets, Matty with his mohawk and the black and white intro and them saying "we're not a pop band" and I was like "where tf have I gotten myself into, yeah you definitely don't look like it babe", and they proceed to play the most poppy song i've ever heard. I love them. Girls will always hold a special place in my heart. Now, I'm seeing them live in July

The girls are portrayed as following the band's actions almost as if they're idolising them and in some scenes it seems as when the band is sort of rejecting the girls, they're too captivated by the band to even care.
