Finally, a middle part 40s hairstyle! I look horrible with a side part, so I’m so happy I’ve found one, I have collar bone length hair so I can’t wait to try!

Hedy's centre-part looks like it would make it really easy for people with bangs to get this look. You don't see too many wet set patterns that accommodate bangs so it's cool that I'll be able to do this style on myself 😁

Oh my goodness thank you for showing the technique of rolling it around the finger! It seems so obvious now. It's so much neater, quicker and easier to do where I can't see what I'm doing on the back of my head. I was contemplating buying a pin curl tool but this is way more convenient.

This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I found online the drawing showing how to set your hair for the Hedy-do but I had no clue that there are two different ways of pinning the curls. Thanks so very much!👍

Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial! I’ve got super curly hair and I’m trying to blow dry it straight less to mitigate the damage it does to my hair so I’m doing some experimenting with natural drying techniques that keep my hair from curling up and I’m about to do this pattern for the first time to see how it comes out sans blow dryer. Sorry for the novela 🤣 thank you, girl!! You’re a life saver as always ❤️

Could you do a Lauren Bacall set with hot rollers? Btw love this hairstyle, it looks amazing on you
@MissBeeTownsend
@MissBeeTownsend 6 лет назад
Absolutely. You can use any setting pattern with any curling method. Just remember each method had its restrictions that will slightly alter the result. Hot rollers and sponge rollers can only produce larger standing curls so the waves will be softer and you’ll have less control ver their direction than you will with pin curls xx

I've tried for the first time to style my hair like this, wish me luck 🤞Tomorrow I'll take the pins out and see if I have done it kinda right. Does anyone knows any tips&triks or setting patterns for super long hair? Mine are almost at the level of my hips, and I have no clue on how to make them look like they're somehow straight out from the 1940s

Im new to your channel. I think your videos go straight to the point and besides being very beautiful and gorgeous , you have a fantastic way of explaining instructions so good. Don´t kill me but I think you look like Fran Drescher which I mean as a compliment. This Hedy Lamarr suits you incredibly which can turn very 70's look as well. Thanks a lot sharing!

Thank you for going slow on the rolling of the pin curl. It makes more sense to me how to get the ends to stay in. Also, do you have tips for natural curly hair. (I have 3b hair so curly not wavy). Thank you
@MissBeeTownsend
@MissBeeTownsend 6 лет назад
Glad it made sense! As for curly hair, my hair is between curly and wavy but is quite cooperative, so I won’t pretend to know what I’m talking about. Are you part of the FB group Vintage Updos for Modern Girls? Curly haired ladies in the Vintage Tips & Tricks FB group will also be happy to help too, I’m sure!

I have bettie bangs, can I use those hairstyles? 😫😳💔 there's almost no vids for it 😥 and I would like to see the brushouts
@MissBeeTownsend
@MissBeeTownsend 6 лет назад
I'll be honest when I had Bettie bangs I just left them and did the rest of my hair like the setting patterns. But I'm thinking of getting a short bob with bangs to do 30s styles and then I will experiment with hiding bangs and you guys can see the results xxx

The curling mousse or setting lotion is put in before the set. All you do after is brush it out and spray it. I have a ton of tutorials that involve brush outs in my channel if you want more detail xx

I did pincurls but on the brush out they just... came out?
@MissBeeTownsend
@MissBeeTownsend 6 лет назад
Depends on your hair as to how well it holds curl. Try damper hair, different setting lotion, and smaller/more pincurls. Let them set longer too (aka overnight).
@MissBeeTownsend
@MissBeeTownsend 6 лет назад
Perfecting pincurling can be tricky too. I have a full video on pin curl tips linked in this video x

How long did you leave them in for? I'm definitely not an expert at all, I've only experimented for the last 4 months with picurling, but I have done them every single day since January and I find that if I don't leave mine for at least 12 hours they won't fully dry and set. Basically the front of my head will be curly but the back will be flat, no fun. What I found works best for me is to pincurl my hair post-shower, mostly flat pincurls but also a hand-full of standing ones at the front on top of my head (like the bang area, for more volume), then tie a handkerchief around my head (without squashing the standing curls) and sleep on it. If it hasn't been at least 12 hours between the time I curled my hair and the time I have to leave the next day then I'll take the standing curls out, leave the rest of the pincurls in the pins, tie a handkerchief around them, Rosie the Riveter style, brush out the standing curls and style them in some kind of barrel roll or something and call it good, haha. Then when I get back home I'll put the standing pincurls back in and sleep on the whole thing again and the curls will be SUPER set by the next day. Hahaha! I don't know if this will help at all but I hope maybe it did! Like I said, I am definitely not an expert or anything... just very lazy. Also, our hair may be very different so things that work for me may not work for you. Best of luck!

I just did this technique and (kind of) the pattern. And I did it so quickly so idek how I'm gonna walk out of my house now that I learned to curl my hair 😂 Edit: So I had tried the Sugar and Water setting lotion and it ended up not working out for me rn. So I gotta figure it out 😅😅 I put my hair in a bun today.

Lovely. Well done! Note- hair textures differ. Stunning beauty Hedy Lamar, being Jewish , had naturally thick n curly hair to start with. Many ladies, believing their hair too straight or kinky, got perms or curled their hair w hot irons before pinning and/or rag curling. Peace.
