It only turned back on the moment I heard "Lightning McQueen", at which point I had to jump straight back to the second part just to actually hear what that script was. Man didn't just Carry a Thing, he carried a legendary joke that baited you into turning off your brain, only to gut punch you into listening to the Cars 2 summary.

Cars 3 does actually acknowledge Cars 2, as Vic Vanley (a journalist seen in Japan) wrote one of the articles of McQueen, and on Smokey’s wall, you can see a news story about Acer falling into the airport waste tanker. Jeff Gorvette also knows McQueen, which might also be a connection. Cars 2 did happen, and I still think it’s a good movie, but none of the characters address what happened simply because Mater gave up spy work and Radiator Springs just went on as normal.

In Cars 2, Mater gets a dent at the beginning which he has for the rest of the movie because he considers each dent a memory and intentionally never gets them fixed; he states this multiple times throughout the film. In Cars 3, the dent is gone. It could just be an animation error, but with how detail oriented Pixar tends to be, there are those of us who like to believe it was a subtle way of indicating Cars 2 never happened. The specific events of Cars 2 didn't need to happen for McQueen to know Jeff Gorvette, or for Vic Vanley to write an article about him.

I couldn't find the article about Acer on Smokey's wall. If it's there, it's an even tinier detail than Mater's missing dent.

Same. Rewatched it a few months back when me and my friends were on a Cars marathon. It's weird, and I don't think I would call it good, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

Cars 2 was super enjoyable, honestly my second favorite in the series, behind the original. Say what you will but it's truly a masterpiece in its own way.

Say what you want, but I'd DEADASS watch Cars 2 over The MID Dinosaur. Cars 2 is at least stupidly entertaining, unlike the Good Dinosaur.

i love cars 2 it’s genuinely my favourite animated movie of all time. partially because my brother literally would not eat his food when he was younger unless it was playing on the tv and it’s very nostalgic, but also because i love the bond parodying and the plotline is actually good. in fact i don’t like the first and third cars movies at all because i found the racing stuff to be really boring (i don’t really remember much of them but i didn’t like it and i liked the spy stuff)
