Just discovered the nitrosilvia channel last week and he is very good at what he does. His cars are in worse condition than most people would tackle. Pete C is mad as a brush but works harder than anyone rescuing complete rotboxes. Nice to see you mixing with these lads, you never know when they could be useful for advice or help welding etc... great video as usual Ian.

Loved seeing the J4 van . My Dad had one for his business , sliding drivers and passenger door version. As a young lad I loved riding in it with the door open. In summer of course. In fact it was in that van my dad let me have my first go at driving on some spare ground near where we lived.

Seeing those old Brit cars took me back to happy days. I bought a Hillman Avenger in '77 in Fern Green metallic, and thought I had entered the "space age". "Fill that gentleman's car up" the salesman said in authoritative tones on my way out, and I felt quite important until I reached home, and realised there was no petrol readout and found myself wandering around scrapyards the next weekend looking for a replacement tank. But I still loved that car...

I remember hearing about this car years back. Wasn't it left in a hedge since almost new (on the road maybe a few years max?) and was said that the owner died and the car was just left? I love that people are keeping these things rolling. There's a Ford restoration garage right near me, had a chat with the guys in there a couple of months back and they had a Cortina in there getting a full restore that wasn't far from Bramble's condition.

Regarding your dislike of Fords:... When I started my career as a Civil Engineer in NZ, on the Mangatangi Damsite construction, in 1974, the Project Engineer for the ARA, Les, our boss, received a brand new Cortina Mk III, basic spec. After all, we did work for the Auckland Regional Authority, a Public Body, so austerity was in order as demanded by the ratepayers. One of the disadvantages of the basic Cortina MkIII was that the seats did not recline. During our afternoon tea time we had a look and discovered the cause, and the solution, to give Les a car with reclining seats. Les took my Series II Landrover home that night (narrow headlights & speed governed because, after all, I was the most junior engineer on site, and needed to be kept a close eye on!!!) The reason was that the whole reclining mechanism was present and intact, but had been immobilised on the basic model by two bloody great big rivets through the mechanism, to make sure the lower classes, who could afford and bought such a car, could not enjoy the extras. About an hour's work with a hacksaw, after work, and we were able to present Les with a Cortina with reclining seats the next morning. He was very pleased, and for our troubles we were presented with a "dozen beer" (great big bottles of NZ DB draught beer). Happy memories! S

A friend of mines father had an Avenger Estate. Over the years rust started to get a hold of it. Never the less he continued to use it. Once he left it parked, where there was a lot of daffodils on the verge nearby. Kids picked the dafs and put them in all the rust holes on the wings and the doors. The old boy was not happy. He sold it the very next week.

Honestly i never get tired of seeing Art by Bex since Bex is super cute!!! She makes chillin at the Lancaster Insurance stand all soo worth it! Lol. Thank you Hubnut for taking the time to give the Rover 800 a close and personal look see since they are one of my all time favorites from my childhood here in the United States. The "NOT two grand" car i would have hugged and licked all day! Nicest car at the show for me. Here they were called Sterling 825's and 827's depending on year and engine size but to me they have the most elegant classy lines of any Rover. I hope you keep your word and get one in your fleet soon! BTW, i could't resist saying that i HATE MIKE BREWER!!!!

Many thanks Ian for giving an ex-pat Englishperson a guided tour of what seems to be a celebration of the mundane (but old), "the individual" and the barking mad. The Grocott Mk7 I'd heard of but never seen and it's one of those things that can't be unseen - I bet it's an "interesting" drive. I've always had a soft spot for Series 2 Discos and a couple of years ago I drove a friend's one in anger on some pretty testing bush tracks here in Oz - odd pedal / steering weighting and a peculiar seating position notwithstanding, I still liked it very much, mostly because of the Td5 engine. Wartburgs I remember very well, they were fairly popular in Britain when lots of Eastern-Bloc cars turned up the early-mid 70s, but they were probably the best-built of all of them (I think I'm right on that but I'm open to criticism). My old man had a Hunter estate (in a dark metallic brown) which he got shot of pretty quickly (terminal rot)and p/ex'd it for (wait for it...) a Sherpa van with a 4-speed/ B-series "powertrain". I knew that blue thing was a Mini Marcos... ... I could go on ... oh, I already have. I'll shut up now. Excellent entertainment and thanks again.

Aha - now we're onto the Allegros, that's my stuff! I must agree that the Gay Classic Club has a wonderful variety of different vehicles, as they did last year - I remember an absolutely gorgeous Princess... Day 3 - TR6 best of the TRs I think - probably worth a bob or two now as well. I never even knew there was any such thing as a Rover SD1 diesel, but I'm glad someone's restoring one before they disappear altogether. Yes I have heard of the BMW 600 - it's a sort of four-wheeled elongated Isetta, a sort of "family" Bubble Car! Yes, the Morris MO 6 was just like the "Big Minor" except for the bonnet and grille - same for the Wolseley variants. And yes I do love a splitty - VW type 2 T1. Well what can I say? Fantastic show, loved the ending - it had a real atmosphere.

With the Jag, the coach builders did not know how to use the English wheel to form the aluminum body like the Men who made the E-type. That was so interesting to have this bit of infor on display to add depth to the Jaguar motorcar history.
