Agree with your saying, the 2.9L twin turbo and a larger battery with EV range up to 90/100 is very desirable.

Why do you prefer the 2.9 compared to the 3.0?

Great review. Interior color combo is my favorite!! Black/tan. I’m fine with Porsche making a faster charger an option. For a car with a small battery, most people won’t be charging this when doing long drives. So, most charging will be done overnight. My current PHEV charges fine with a 110v overnight. And, some studies show the slower charging better preserves the battery. So, I like that they offer a faster charger option for those who feel they may need faster charging, but most won’t need it. I COMPLETELY agree that a longer range would open this up to more buyers...70-100 miles would be great! But, I’m guessing $$$ and weight would suffer, as would non EV mpg due to the weight...but, the EV would take care of 99% of your daily driving as opposed to about 50% now.

I think a battery back that would triple in size and weight to get the car to go 70-100 miles would make this car so heavy and possibly eat into interior room wouldn’t be practical. You’d end up with a 6000lb suv had probably hit the point of diminishing returns on your electric range.

No matter how many times you repeat “you and I drove” “we drove” etc - I remain convinced you drove it I didn’t - that aside nice review.

Happy new year :) - now the fun begins 2021 weekender. What better way to start it with a Porsche review - PHEV is good way to go right now, especially in Germany, government gives you a tax break for it. I like lightly optioned Porsche even more "pure" if bought new. Porsches are legend to pull as much money out of your pocket with Extras as no other vendor. Driving dynamics is one argument, but for me it's more about long distance driving. EV´s are not there for me yet. They will be. This is a good compromise. Wishlist for me too is battery capacity / weight / energy density. Like half the weight with a dry battery and 100 miles capacity, that would be awesome.

I am waiting for delivery of my Cayenne Hybrid SUV (not coupe), and I agree with you on engine, but especially on battery size at an extra $2K for added capacity. Also agree with paying premium for dynamic package, although I had to settle without it due to market supply severe limitations.

Yes at least a hundred miles on battery only at highway speed. Plug or no plug suits me fine. But needs to have the software to go electric only, full hybrid (uses both elec and gas) gas only. And of course charge the battery using gas or plug only. Hope that made sense.

Hey motorman. Unrelated question. Would you go with the bmw M850 Gran Coupe or the Benz CLS 53? Looking for the most dynamic driving experience possible and the most technology.

M850 probably performs better than a 53 but MB has a more functional tech stack, IMO.

I bought the 2022 Cayenne EHybrid. The check engine light comes on randomly after charging. Not every day after charging all night. Only some days. I've "had" the car for 26 days. 13 days in my possession. 13 days at the dealer for "service" but they have no clue what the reason could be for why the engine light keeps coming on!! They've already replaced a part on my brand new car- before telling me which really bothers me too. I looked into Lemon Law cases for Porsche and one big one was about lights on the dashboard. I live in Tennessee- any advice??? Please!!

It really feels like Porsche gets away with trolling the net worth of its clientele with their ridiculous options packaging. You can get a loaded V8 X5 or GLE for the price of this Cayenne, both with better performance numbers, way more options, more standard features, etc. This lightly optioned Cayenne is knocking on the door of an X5M with the performance figures of the X5 6 cylinder.
@underscorechaz

Porsche is all about no compromise no budget; customers, in the words of savagegeese, won’t even nit pick 10+ thousand to get the absolute best with no trade offs. With more options, you get the comfort and quality of a Q8, the steering and chassis control better than BMW, the efficiency of a Lexus, the interior aesthetic and sound system of a Mercedes, the case is made: it’s a highlight reel of all the good features from all the other brands put together Unless you want to cash in on a 10mpg 612 hp X5M instead of the most refined and balanced driving experience that’s you But you compromise ride comfort, steering feel, and gas mileage. Again, no trade offs comes at a price

@@jays9211 most of the large battery PHEVs will charge overnight or about 11 hours. Unless you are working 12 hour days you should fine plugging in to wall outlet. That what we do with our 2018 CT6 PHEV.

ya Subaru has had heated seats stranded for at least 15 years now and most new cars over 35k have blue tooth and wireless phone charging. surprised power windows are not an up charge, I bet they bill a grand for nitrogen in the tiers as well.. I like the Cayennes but this sort of shenanigans like 1500$ for a rear wiper blade is ridiculous.. wish it had more E only range and less focus on 0-60 times.

Test drove this car in August last year and i was so so disappointed! I had wished it would have been en exciting experience but i was so badly let down...I felt that there was not really a good connection between drivetrain, engine and brakes, this causing the car to be very ”jumpy” and inharmonic. When it was in hybrid mode and you pressed the pedal to get the car moving, the engine would turn on and the car would suddenly jump forward, a bit like doing a kick down, but unwanted. Same with braking, when you let off the pedal there was basically no regen, a soft push on the brakes and regen and the brakes jump on simultaneously...oh my god was this frustrating. I returned the car back so disappointed and told that to the car salesman, he was not very happy. I test drove the next day an RRS p400e, for the second time, and found it to be much more harmonious and fits my driving style much better. I’m 47, so not a grandpa or anything. I ended up ordering the RRS, as a matter of fact, I’m going to pick it up next week, it’s been a long wait. I did trade in my old RRS SDV6 diesel, so i might be a bit biased (and spoiled) on the RRS’s comfort. I’m sure the Porsche is a good car, i would really have wanted to own a Porsche, oh well, maybe it’ll be a Taycan...

I agree with your Cayenne exprience. It's really a mediocre SUV. I only got it for long distance traveling to rural places. The steering however, reminds me of the like of 911 feels. The 991.2 particularly. The car just works to the point that it suits your need but not your want. It does those in a more premium way.
