this is the best all-new MDX review ever I have seen today!!! about details about every function of the ALL-NEW MDX, such as the one-touch turn signal !!!! wow, well done!!!!
This is absolutely fantastic content for people actually shopping around. Objective, in depth, and balanced. Cannot wait for you to review the Type S. I’m weighing options for a purchase in the next month or so and the MDX Type S is currently at the top of the list.
The true touchpad interface isn't a drag to select system like a mouse pad. If you want the top left on the screen then you just put your finger on that area on the touchpad. No dragging around.
Beautiful spec on the MDX. Can't overstate how the overall design is helped by the lack of roof rails. Wish all vehicle had roof rails as optional. The MDX is the vehicle that saved Acura and I thank you for your excellent review.
Looking forward to your Type S review. Some of the other reviews of the released MDX did not have the same concerns about the transmission. I wonder if issues were tweaked before the release date or they just didn't pick up on it. Nice review.
5:51 they originally had them as open air vents and found in testing it actually made the car less aero dynamic and gave more wind resistance so they sealed it. So it would have been cool but they made the smart choice.
I was $10k+ short for the type s so I opted in for the MDX Advance non-type-s. I traded in my 2016 MDX Tech-Acurawatch-RES for this and its a big difference (except for the engine, same as before), almost at the same level as GLE/Q7/X5... but not yet. Practically and moneywise its a good alternative to german suvs. The 10-speed transmission is smoother and more efficient. The removal 2nd row center seat is a really good idea, and I hope they throw-in a latchable cover for those big latch bars on the floor when you remove this seat. And when you get a 3rd row all weather mat, it comes with a rubber cover for that section of the removeable second mid seat.
OMG... so thorough (and objective) review. The best review that I have seen. I subscribed. Please review the Lexus RX 500H: I need to decide on either MDX S Type or RX 500H. Thank you so much.
I actually appreciate the hard plastic back of the chair at least its easy to clean..you should see what my kids do to the back of the front seats of my infiniti 😅
Great video! Very thorough and also balanced. I’ve subscribed. I agree that it’s the best-looking 3-row currently on the market, also will be interested to see what the Type S has to offer
Hello! This was a wonderful review and the most in depth one we have found on the new MDX. Do you think in the future you will be able to review the S Type Advance? Thank you!
I’m really glad you enjoy the channel! It depends which type of driving experience you prefer: the MDX is more engaging to drive, but the GV80 is more luxurious. I find both SUVs to be handsome.
Nothing special IMO. A-spec is mostly cosmetic for 60k. Infotainment is not the best. Same engine with less mpg. A nice upgrade but in the 60-70k price range it is not a value. Honda plus interior . Very reliable engine, nice transmission update with a great AWD system. If the base model came with a heated wheel and surround view for 50k(with AWD) that would be a good deal
@@ajlee6933 I’m paying $825 US for the Advance. It’s not a great value proposition at all at this point. And there’s many half-baked features or lack there of. I’m starting to regret my lease.
I just test drove a BMW M40i suv and the price is 60,000 . The Aspec MDX is bigger, has more room, has real leather and not syntec leather like BMW. I’m considering buying it because it’s like getting X5 size space with 3rd row but with more goodies and features without loading up on price. I’m missing 50HP but I think it’s okay especially with the new transmission. It shifts so smoothly and fast. It gives it a totally different feel in shifting than my new ridgeline ( same engine/diff transmission)
Outstading design. Finally I'm thinking of buying new MDX, instead of the RDX. Older MDXs looked like a blober)) This one destroys German rivals, IMHO.
Acura did a pretty nice job with this. My mom has a ‘16 and this definitely seems like a big step up. Sure, that infotainment system seems like it has a steep learning curve and a little more power on the non-Type S models would be welcome, but those are minor quibbles and definitely not deal breakers. I wish Acura would have paired this base NA V6 with a hybrid system to fill in some of that low end torque without sacrificing any fuel economy. But maybe that’ll come further down the line of this gen MDX. We’ll see.
You actually don’t have to use the track pad like you did (which is how I first used it as well) it functions more like a “touchscreen” for example if you want to click the app in the top right corner just click on the top right corner and it will select it. Same for all the apps and the menus. I will note however, its not talked about but the magnet in the iPhones 12 interfere with the charging pad and makes it unusable.
I would just buy the base model MDX and upgrade to aftermarket 20" wheels. The engine in the base model is the same as in the ASpec model. So...save some $$$
The auto up-shifting before redline was probably a decision by the manufacturer in the software to reduce the warranty repairs they would have to make. Same reason that downshifts are so conservative, to avoid over-rev damage.
Looking in buying a luxury SUV . I can take off the MDX off my list due to the reverse backward swiping setup. I know I might get in an accident do to that complication.
Which interior did you like better between this and the dodge durango? Waiting for the type s trim, but comparing it to the 392 durango. Appreciate any feedback regarding interior quality and technology.
I prefer this cabin to the Durango’s. Quality of materials is higher in the MDX and the layout is more aesthetically pleasing. The Durango does have more leg and headroom in the 3rd row, however
You’re right. The touchpad is not designed for moving your finger across it (except in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). You’re supposed to put your finger directly in the place you want to select on the screen. Moving your finger across the touchscreen may work, but as the video shows, it will be inconsistent.
I dont understand why Acura put shiney black plastic everywhere in the interior. Especially on the dash. The RDX has a nicer looking interior than this. The transmission is slow. Not sure why you would buy this new MDX unless you must have a Honda product. I would go Genesis GV80 with the 3.5TT for similar money
Great review. That infotainment trackpad sucks. Making the user interface more complex is not luxurious... it's dangerous. Just make it a touchscreen. It's actually quite interesting that the Japanese struggle to make good user interfaces, but the Koreans are great at it. Maybe that's why the Koreans dominate the cell phone market (Samsung/LG) and the Japanese can barely sell anything (Sony).
@Andres Perez hooooo genesis another car brand that we dont have here for now... Genesis said that they would open the first official dealerships in large European cities (such as berlin) but the pandemic has blocked this, I hope in the future genesis will arrive here
The last MDX had the center console in the third row with a lot of storage and USB ports, which was better. The third row in this is also the biggest afterthought ever.
I am at the end of my lease on a 2018 w/advance package and I love the car from the 2nd row back. The 2022 is a disappointment in this regard. I can’t comprehend how such an inferior 2nd row made its way to every trim.
@@ahf5471 yep I expected cooled second row seats, more usb type c ports, captains chairs with the center console, more room in the third row, vents, USB’s and power recline on most trims.
Where's the hybrid? The hot ticket appears to be a plug-in hybrid with 30 to 60 miles of range. Acura dropping their hybrid with the new model makes no sense...
Rant I don't think so for a 60 k car. it's arsine to not have, Maybe it's a rant for a 25 k car. Acura should have done better. Now as for the touch pad I have a rdx 2019 it's sux. It's accident phorone. The Lexus has both A touch screen and the pad. Which to be honest when you can't get the pad to work it's a hell of a lot faster just to hit the icon on the screen. Also but you make like the out side design is light years ahead take a RDX modify it a little bingo you got a 2022 MDX.
Awesome SUV period. Thanks for sharing. It's good to have choices like the upcoming Type S version etc.... But, in all honesty there is no need only desire for more, more, more, more...but look back on civilizations or cities or countries that fell are the ones that always wanted more, more, more just like the huge dinosaurs, that went extinct, or great Africa before Europe, and now USA and China are looking for more, more, more and most of the RU-vid reviewers.
they literally need to change that old engine instead increasing gears coz honda transmission has delays !! rest the ride quality and handling and it’s quieter than before !!
Cmon man! What we need is a hybrid the very least and not another even worse gas guzzling engine. I hope and wish govt starts to penalize manufacturers for showing the balls to come up with another model without any sight to fuel efficiency or care for environment! Unless ofcourse acura is going to surprise everyone with all electric high performing type S..! .. else no matter how it looks but its all junk by 2030 in many markets. Acura said that front tunnel ventilation in the wind testing has proven to be more of a burden. Hence the reason they closed it.
For premium a vehicle, why cut corners ?!!! Plastic center of the steering wheel? That’s something you see and feel every time you drive it.. German manufacturers won’t let that slide ..
