I love my GS, but my next bike will probably be a Pan Am. Maybe the next gen. It's pretty amazing how they nearly nailed it on the first try. As a platform it's awesome, and all the little things can be fixed. Given the number of dealerships, availability of parts and service, and the entire massive HD aftermarket if it entrenches itself - it's hard not to envision a bright future.
@nbrider7235
@nbrider7235 Год назад
That is one of the big reasons I have been riding HDs for 20 years, the peace of mind knowing that I am seldom more than 100 miles from a dealer if I need it. I bought the first Pan Am my dealership got last year, love it. It will be better when some of the bugs get worked out though.

Wise move, I part exchanged my GS for one but missed my GS so much I sold it and brought another GS. For no other reason than it didn't suit me, for several small reasons and the first gen was having issues. If I ever get GS out of my blood stream, I would certainly be looking at buying a next gen one. Glad I brought it though as my local dealership is great and I now have more motorcycling friends who happen to ride Harley's.

I bought a 2023 Tiger and didn't like it at all. The motor was tuned for a sportbike and the phone connectivity software never worked. I did the first oil change myself and the engine nearly froze because I was supposed to put the new oil in with the drain plug removed. I've never heard of that before but apparently that's how this motor needs the oil changes done. Pour new oil in with the drain plug removed and it doesn't pour out on the ground. I traded it in 6 months for a Harley Road King Special.
@ttrguy9952
@ttrguy9952 Месяц назад
@@tomlongo7582 You are dead wrong about the oil change. You DO put the drain plug in to refill with oil. You leave the "Filter" off before filling and put the filter on after filling with oil. This prevents a line lock where the oil cannot move in the channels to lube the valves. My connectivity works great even though I don't use it. I ride to be un-connected. My phone is turned off and stays in my pocket or tank bag. The same in my car.

One aspect is the adaptive suspension being the best of both worlds. It lowers about 2 inches.when riding to a stop and raises back up when you shut it off. When lower, it makes it easier to get your footing when stopped. When turned off, it resumes the normal height, which makes it easier to get on the center stand.
@stiggles98

It’s truly adaptive too; I’m a tall guy with long legs, and I rode one at a demo day. It only squatted down for me the very first time I turned it on in the parking lot; it figured somehow I had no trouble reaching the ground on my own, and stopped kneeling.

My observations: just got off ST1100 and jumped on different kind of bike, and guess what? Feels like handling a bicycle. I asked for all ABS/TC off, engine in sports mapping and just took off. Handles really light, corners with a lot of spare lean angle, throttle response in S mode sweet and like an explosion, overtaking 10 points. Overall experience - waiting for a DRAW🙂. Fingers crossed!

I totally support the tribute of the company to the military. In virtually all the magazine and you tube comparisons of the new Pan America it is always tested against the GS and GSA. So in some ways it is recognized by almost all testers that the GS/GSA has been and probably still is the undisputed standard to which all adventure bikes are measured against. BMW was very smart when they introduced the GS series by not starting from scratch with a new bike but using the existing proven engines and modified the frames to some extent to make it an adventure bike. That way the new bike teething problems were almost none. And each year since they made small refinements to the bike to what it is today. It didn't hurt BMW that KTM opted out of Ewan's and Charlie's world trip and BMW stepped up to the plate. Harley, on the other hand, started their adventure bike with a new model and teething issues are to be expected with any new model. It is not really a Harley issue as much as any totally new bike would likely have first year glitches regardless of manufacturer. Harley does have a few things going for them that are fascinating that some of the other manufacturers don't. First, as you mentioned, they are well recognized for their support of the military and veterans. Harley also has a very loyal customer base that in some cases will not ride anything other than a Harley regardless of what it is, and Harley's business model is somewhat unique among motorcycle manufactures as the quarterly bottom line is important to a point but that the business model is similar to Southwest Airlines and Apple as the customer is also very important and the company absolutely wants and needs to be around next year and years after to support their customers. The quarterly bottom line isn't everything for Harley and that is refreshing among companies that only look to bottom lines and Wall Street stockholders. Harley is unique in many ways and I am not sure the Pan America will have the short life and go the way of the Live Wire. I am not a Harley guy but can certainly see and appreciate their business model. Maybe in a few years I will look hard at the Pan America, for now my ride is the GSA.

In 1996 I owned a GS 1100 which loved . Great machine one if my all time faves out of very many. It was nimble and great off road. For me the GS 1250 has gotten a little too porky. I have a 2022 Pan America Special gave put 8500 miles on it it 2 months. With the stock exhaust it sounds and handles very much like my GS. It is also nimble and stable off road and handles great on asphalt. Because it feels so much like my GS 1100 did I absolutely love it. Zero issues. Beware of the hate forums. Every type of motorcycle has one.

@@paulwojnar2291 the GS 1100 and 1150 were/are still great bikes. They are still running like clockwork and they have ZERO issues!! I have a 2005 model GS 1200 which I bought used and I absolutely love it. It is the standard type with the 20 lt tank and not the 30lt one. However, I am almost sure that my next bike will be the Pan America. I am just letting some time go by and of course, saving my pennies. The only problem that I could forsee is that here in Greece there are very few Harley shops around. If I am on a long haul out of town and for whatever reason I break down, I am f***ed as I am not much of a mechanic myself. On the other hand, if the services are on time and by the book, one should not have any problems...I say should....

I owned a Sportster S with the revolution max engine. These bikes are FULL of issues and Harley techs at smaller dealerships are struggling to keep up after years of working on 1970s technology. The weird rev hunting/power delivery the engine does between 3 and 4k RPM cannot be fixed. But don't take my word for it. Before you buy, join one of the owners groups and hang out there for a couple of weeks. I sold my Sportster S after 600 miles. But hey, each to their own. Go ahead and trade your GS on this. Good luck.

@TimothyT230

@@rudedog3529 Maybe they finally resolved it. Anyway these bikes are expensive and I don't wish bad luck on anyone so all the best. Other than 3 or 4 presses of the starter to get mine started and the weird power delivery it didn't really give me any grief. Did find that my iPhone wouldn't stay connected to the bikes Bluetooth but who knows what causes that. Sportster S also has about 3 inches of travel in the rear suspension so your teeth will rattle in your mouth and your spine will get realigned every time you hit a bump. Wasn't for me in the end. Quick for a Harley though but not sportbike quick even though the sales folks will try sell it that way. My Ninja 1000 would annihilate it.

Nice bike if you consider this is first Harley adventure-style bike. Test drove Pan America Special and GS 1250. GS felt like it had more torque down low. Harley feels like it has "race" motor. Toque goes with the revs on Harley. The only thing that I didn't in Pan America is that "check engine" light popped up when I was having a test-ride. And suddenly it became a 50 Hp bike instead of 150 Hp.

I'm commuting on the bike almost every day, living in a Prague (Czech republic) where the traffic can gets quite congested. I love MG characters, did some demo ride on V85 and find it perfect, not so big to the town, tons of character, enough power. I have started riding this year, did around 10k km this season and only thing that I'm missing on the V9 is no wind protection, ergos, bigger tank and cruise control. I was surprised, that when I reset the avarage fuel consumption during my demo ride on V85 I had a better milage then on V9. Only thing that I want to upgrade on V85 is the windshield. Even with a factory high windshield, I experienced a lot of buffeting, so I want to try givi airflow. I know, it does not look the best, but should be pretty practical.
