The 2022 Toyota Tundra 1794 Is A Modern Electrified Truck That Can Challenge The Best From Detroit

The day is finally here, we have a completely redesigned #ToyotaTundra and it goes on sale in December. After 15 long years, #Toyota has pulled out all the stops with the #Tundra1794 and #TundraTRDPro. We have a new frame, interior, styling, powertrains, and infotainment system. The #TundraiForceMax is their first hybrid pickup truck offering nearly 600 lb-ft of torque and the twin-turbo V6 replaces the V8 with more power and way better fuel efficiency. No more excuses, Toyota is going for blood against Detroit with the all-new #Tundra.

Good morning everyone! Toyota still has not announced final pricing or fuel economy figures for the i-Force MAX hybrid powertrain. Expect to see those numbers become available by the end of this month or early next month. We should also be getting a Tundra for a week to test sometime in December. Apologize for the lengthy video! Toyota really pulled out all the stops and we had SO MUCH to show you. About time we finally get a modern Tundra that can go toe to toe with the best from Detroit! ❤️

"so nice it's almost terrifying to think you should ever drive one." Anyhow absolutely these are "pickup truck Wars" with the pure BEV segment i think to be truly epic. Still I'd rather go with a Ford Ranger than any other vehicle on the market today just based on the possibility of truly massive sales numbers for that Platform *plus all these extras now.* Gotta show up to the Party, absolutely and ahem "thanks to the super efficient Tesla Brand" ahem. Crazy amounts of money.

Your review was basically in my backyard. I live just a bit north of Canyon Lake. I still own my 1st gen '02 Tundra that I bought new in March '02. One reason I never upgraded to a newer Tundra was the fact that you couldn't get the Crew Max with a more useful 6.5' bed. I'm glad to see that the new Tundra offers that now. It might be time for me to finally upgrade trucks.

@@robertesensee3494 You don't need a company to do real life testing. It's called everyday driving and hauling in the workplace. We have pickup trucks that haul and tow equipment and materials to and from construction sites. That Tundra couldn't do the job. Everybody talks about towing capacity but they never tell you about payload ability. Toyota doesn't even offer a 3/4 ton or a 1 ton truck. Just a cheap copy of the Ford Raptor with the Ecoboost engine that Ford introduced back in 2012.

The problem is that people think 200k miles are easy to get to. Turbos will eventually start to fail unlike the v8, its all motor. Highway miles on a family suv are different than a weekend RV Tow rig and an even bigger difference if you buy a work truck that tows every day of the week. Some of us don't need a HD truck from the big three depending on the line of work but that doesn't mean we don't need a reliable V8 truck. I bought a 2012 Toyota tundra new with the 5.7 and ever since we bought it its been our work truck to tow around all week. 350k miles Has never given me any problems what so ever. Perfect timing for the boat in the background at the end. As for the Tundra, I'm very interested in a SR5 or limited TRD Offroad Crew Max non-hybrid with the 6.5' bed. Payload is my biggest concern as loading up the family and hitching up the camper very quickly starts approaching the payload limit on most half-ton trucks. I'm still trying to find a video showing the stated return of a transmission cooler that was removed from Tundras for the 2018 or 2019 model year. I've seen it mentioned in a couple of videos, but no one has pointed to it and said this is the transmission cooler. Also, I seen some info saying that the transmission is once again made by Aisin.

To be clear, Japan had been here in this market and making great products. I’d like to see a move to 3/4 ton space though. I own a a Titan Xd I tow with and it is a monster for what it is, but I think with some more engineering the 2 Japanese competitors could dramatically improve payload, which is really where that next breakpoint is. They could always use more towing capacity but at some point that towing capacity is gonna hit s limit without the payload for the hitch weight.

I’m reading folks think the new Tundra hybrid may drive smoother compared to the Ford? Detroit beware- Toyota is just now catching up to what Ford started 10 years ago. Don't get me wrong, this is a big (and very needed) step for the Tundra. The interior looks a lot better and finally it gets a 6 foot bed option with the supercrew cab. Some of the materials inside seem a bit cheap, even on the higher end trims, but hopefully that changes in time or come the release. The hard plastic dash on the limited is pretty bad and the oversized screen sticking above the dash looks like a poor fit/almost aftermarket. The options for the truck still seem pretty trim bottlenecked; Toyota doesn't seem to have anything like the Lariat (midtier trim) that can get some of the basic niceties like heated seats/wheel- the SR5 can't apparently. From an interior perspective, Toyota is on the map but still behind pretty much every American manufacturer. The drivetrain is TBD but Ford's already been at it with the turbo 6 in the F150 for 10+ years and the 10 speed for 7+. Also the F150 has both direct and port injection on the 3.5 ecoboost and last I checked Toyota did not on this V6. The fully retractable rear window isn't great if you're driving at speed since you get the wind funnel effect behind the cab/in the bed, which tosses all of the debris from your bed (or road) back into the cabin- I do like the concept but in practice it's more annoying than useful, in my opinion. Subjectively, I think the grill is a bit ugly and uninspired, but I'd like to see Toyota keep stepping it up. I would happily drive one of these in the coming years if they continue to innovate, but Toyota also has a history of not updating vehicles after a refresh like this for many, many years.

Don't, I test drove it, it's junk. Poor fit and finish, it feels absurdly cheap inside. And it's literally out of date already. It falls short in so many categories it's unreal. You would have to be an idiot to purchase this outdated truck

@xspower21
@xspower21 2 года назад
@@dlg5485 your more than welcome to go buy one, and if you do I hope it works out, but I think anyone buying this truck is a complete tool box. Here is why I feel this truck is an absolute let down in almost every category except the torque rating in the new hybrid I-Force. And remember Toyota only does a major overhauls every 15yrs. Which is why by 2012-2013 the last Gen Trundra was becoming dated compared to other Trucks, so technically it's been outdated for the last 8yrs. When you objectively look at what this truck actually offers, it barely competes with 2020 models from the big 3. First, zero tow/recovery hooks? They literally have an off road package and countless people work on farms and or places where the terrain can be a problem. So it's not a question of if you get stuck, but when you get stuck. So clearly Toyota does not expect you to use your truck. Why is the payload so poor, the highest rating is around 1940lbs, and most trims it's closer to 1600, hell the Ford Ranger payload is 1904lb, and I get they went coilovers, but those have been around for decades, am I too believe they couldn't get better #'s, and this is a prime example of Toyota just getting current with 2020 models, nothing special or great here. Then there is the new V6, why is the gas mileage no better than the current V8s from Ford and Ram, the difference is nominal, so they fucked us there. Why does the most capable off road version loose all of its storage space in the cab to the batteries? When you're camping/off roading storage is a premium. Here was a prime opportunity for Toyota to be innovative in 2 different ways. First, they could have found a new place for the batteries, say under the truck/bed, maybe between the cab and bed?? Or get creative and design morage storage like RAM did with their power boxes built into the bed,or how about offering the basic V6 as a motor option? And they used old battery technology. Either way, zero innovation or creative was put into that area. How about the Tail gate being harder for egress/ingress then my 2011 model, and don't give me the bullshit mike sweers answer of " We didn't want to add complexity ". That's an utter lie, they added twin turbos to a motor and had to design extra cooling for it, that's the definition of complexity. Just another complete failure on Toyota's part. The last Gen has always had dim lighting in the truck, well guess what, it's still dark as hell inside the cab, apparently this was to tough for the engineers to fix. Why after all these years does that back seat still have the tunnel hump. Many people flip the seats up to store/haul/move more items around, and many of us have our dogs back there. It's a simple fix, but still too tough for Toyota to figure out I guess. The all new navigation is a train wreck and does not function well at all, even Toyota has semi had to admit it. Every one offers auto start, but Toyota wants a yearly subscription or they deactivate it, seriously? Why not just come out and say " We want to start ripping our customer bases off where ever possible" The interior feels more cramped even though it's supposed to be bigger inside. Why is the crawl control and 4wheel drive engagement right where we all spill our food and drinks, they had a ton of dash real-estate to put it somewhere that made more sense, but nope. Or how about the seats not being comfortable, it's hard and doesn't sit well at least not if your over 6ft and 200lbs, it might be fine for smaller men possibly. Now I only drove the limited but the interior felt low quality and cheap, like I was in an economy car . Vents were loose, seats had stitching issues, the center console slide was flimsy and loose. Everything just felt like it was going to fall apart in the first 3yrs or so ( maybe it was just a lemon ) but it was bad enough I went to another lot and it seemed about the same ( both were in limited trims ). Why on the TRD PRO are we forced into those cheap plastic fender guards, then on top on top of that, they used some cheesy camo print, I'm not a 25yr kid, at least give me options on a 70k plus truck to look like an adult. And that plastic always fades real quick and inturn makes the truck look crappy, the cheap camo print just exacerbates that issue, and hell I don't want those cheesy cheap camo prints seat, WTF? Now I understand looks are an opinion, but Holy Tosh.0 it's obnoxiously ugly, the grill is so large the plastic looks like that cheap plastic used to hold your socket set you buy from home depot. And why so much chrome. That has not been popular for well over a decade, is the Toytota team that out of date?? The truck looks almost identical to a gmc from the middle of the front door and back, apparently taking time to design their own truck was too much, it was easier to rip off the work GMC put in. In person the truck feels weak and feeble.There are a few other things like visibility out the front window due the rake which makes it worse then the last Gen, and I could keep going but I'm sure you get the point. As a die hard Tundra guy who was going to buy new TRD PRO in 2019, I waited for the complete overhaul. It's sadly disappointing that we can't point to anything that outshines what's offered on 2020 models from the other manufacturers. Toyota literally just got current and barely does that. Essentially this truck is brand new but outdated already. Toyota should be completely embarrassed by this truck.

Fuel Economy: 2021 4.6L V8 - 15 city/19 hwy 2021 5.7L V8 - 13 city/18 hwy 2022 3.5L V6TT - 17city/22hwy Disappointed in the fuel economy numbers. It defeats the purpose of discontinuing the 13 year old V8 platform if fuel economy is only incrementally better. They probably did it because of it being cheaper to produce than a V8 and easier compliance to EPA standards. This is like Honda/Acura discontinuing the V6 for a 2.0T when the 2.0T fuel economy is actually worse than the V6 with VCM. They shouldve just kept the V8 for the trim level higher than Limited. I was kinda hoping for like 27mpg on the hwy for it being a V6. Looks like i have to buy a car for my commute...DAMNMIT!!

I think the reason why it gets worse MPG on the highway probably has to do with the rear axle ratio I'm not sure what rear axle ratio the new Toyota tundra has 🤔 also there could be other factors as to why it gets slightly worse MPG as well and what Toyota could have done is they could have added their d4s technology and a higher compression ratio as well to their 5.7 I also looked up a 2021 ford f150 rwd double cab with the 3.5l Ecoboost and it gets 17 city 24 highway
