The 2023 Cadillac Escalade V Is a Fast, Huge $150,000 Luxury SUV 

It seems like a bunch of automakers are now making these insane, V8, gas guzzling, cars because they probably know regulations soon won’t allow them to anymore.

I estimate the overall fuel economy for the Escalade V at about 15. 15 gallons per mile.

Doug is going to single-handedly convince every Auto Manufacturer to install high quality turn signal, and windshield wiper stocks. One by one, Doug will get it done.

What makes Doug so special, is that he makes me feel like I'm actually inside the car experiencing it for myself, as I would in person. He is a phenomenal character.

I love that GM brings out the best stuff at the exact moment the economy/market collapses. Every....time.

this is like the full package of a car, 3 rows with enough legroom for adults, a cargo area the size of a house, enough power to move said house, rather quickly too

I really wish ventilated rear seats would become more standard. It's crazy that they're in a 45k palisade and not in this.

Given the sheer size of this beast, it seems odd to compare to any other SUV from Europe.

I can't be the only one who misses Doug's in-depth DougScore analysis, which he used to do in the past. A big chunk of what I have learnt from his videos came from that segment alone!

Cadillac has really changed in the last few years, I can't believe the _escalade_ is now the most powerful thing in their lineup!

I'm glad GM decided to make a V version of the Escalade. It just sucks that it's being launched during a time of historically high gas prices. Then again, it probably won't matter as much to the folks who can afford this.

Apart from the engine, and the better layout, and the brilliant idea of a button up front to drop the 3rd row (which I continually moan about in my 2019 XL Denali), I can't really see/justify the price tag. a Cadillac badge isn't enough. I'd be quite happy sticking with my Denali, which has been fantastic.

Honestly I totally agree here 5:25. It doesn't matter if they don't have the brand name of MB. People who want an Escalade and can afford it will buy it simply because of that name, Cadillac Escalade. That's been the staple of American boss level luxury.

I read doom and gloom on gas prices, wars, inflation, economy, then I come to see what Doug is reviewing.... LOL There is a mismatch in what I am seeing with what Doug is reviewing and the rest of the world. Keep on doing your thing Doug, it brings me joy.

push the fold button 2 x for the 2nd row seats to fold all the way, 1 time to fold, once folded, the 2nd time for them to unhitch and flip to the front. You can do it the 2 different ways Doug demonstrated as well but I prefer the 2x button option

It's impressive how just revving the engine in park is enough to make this massive yacht sway back and forth a little. That's some serious power.

As an Escalade owner, I agree with the sentiment of wanting the performance, and also the nice seats. This is the suv all of us Escalade owners want. Also being 6'7" is a deciding factor lmao.

I drove behind one of these on my commute to work the other day. It had a manufacturer plate. Either the one I drove behind had an experimental exhaust, or your review doesn't do it justice. The thing sounded absolutely bonkers. It was loud as hell, and popping on deceleration. So cool.. I've never even seen a CTS V or corvette that sounds like that. I was totally sold on it.

I have only owned 1 Cadillac -> an Escalade. Bought it when it was 2 yrs old, but got the Cadillac full etc warranty. The customer service I got for the next 4 yrs was UNBELIEVABLY INSANELY AWESOME. Hands down without anything ever even close, even buying more expensive brand new flagship model stuff from other manufacturers. The customer service was so good I still feel guilty buying another brand of vehicle. We sold the Escalade the first time fuel prices went insanely high 10 yrs ago. I don't know if it was the dealer we went through or if Cadillac just does more, but they made everything so easy with warranty and any sort of service. They brought a car to our house and picked up the Escalade (via flatbed tow truck) for warranty work (vehicle rear axle somehow broke) when my wife was pregnant and I was out of state. I have never been treated so ... perfectly ... with anything else.

Saw this thing a week ago accelerate out of the entrance of the GM Milford proving grounds. This thing is insane!

AKG is a dope sound system. My S9 came with it back in 2018 and still works flawlessly. The bass is clear and never distorted no matter the volume. Its made in Austria.

Cadillac went ALL IN on one thing for sure. A GIANT profit margin!

I think you're absolutely correct on the subtle environment of the interior. I'm a huge GM fan and this is a crazy cool vehicle.

I really like how GM is trying to improve Cadillac’s image. Maybe Ford should try to sell high-performance / sportier Lincolns but really Lincoln is primarily focused on fancy. The Lincoln LS is pretty “close” to a sports sedan however. BTW great review Doug!!

Doug, part of the reason the price jump is so massive is probably that thermal camera. Those generally run about 10 grand or more.

This vehicle seems excessive in many aspects, but somehow I have more respect for it than I have for many other SUVs, because of its size. As opposed to compact SUVs, which are just heavy, but don't offer much space, this is actually a really spacious van and thus fulfills a clear purpose.

I've always been a fan of Escalade but my assumption had been that, in the past (early 2000s), you were really paying for the name. Fast forward to 2023 and you can see the ingenuity that has gone into the brand's vehicles to some-what justify the price point. Although headed in the right direction, as Doug mentioned, the interior is set back by its "mass-produced" feel. But you can see much of the craftsmanship was focused on the exterior. It really shines with the rear brake and front signal lighting. Their modern elongated and minimal design act as a statement, almost like racing stripes without the tackiness of actual racing stripes.

This thing is worth more than every house in Detroit combined lol

The Escalade can be its own brand and probably succeed. The escalade nameplate is so strong it may even be more recognized than the Cadillac brand itself.

I'm really glad they offered a more luxury oriented interior for the V model. It's tiring to see more and more sport models offered with nothing more than black leather with red stitching and carbon fiber trim.

I love how GM makes a 1000 HP electric Hummer and now a 680 HP polar bear killing Supercharged Cadillac.

Thank goodness the economy is at a record high. I never saw so much prosperity in America. 150k is not that bad. Economy is so good most people will be able to buy one or two of these.

Given limited visual differentiation and how capable the Platinum Escalade already is, I predict resale value for this trim level will fall fastest among all Escalades.

Cadillac had considered making this over 15 years ago according to GM interviews with Car & Driver. I suppose GM wanted to squeeze as much profit out of their ICE vehicles as possible before the inevitable EV takeover within the next 5 years. I’m glad that this exists even if I would never own it.

U can't imagine the girth of this......land yacht! I miss my suburban & the "king of the road" feeling it gives u & this has so much comfort& tech features (& look how far away the bk window is!) there's no substitute! Not even a LWB Rolls, Rover, Bentley, or Maybach can match the sheer dimensions!!! Its the King!!!

Quite honestly, that's a very impressive vehicle. Nearly perfectly designed for it's market/buyers. And if I could afford a 150k vehicle, I could afford the gas for it. I wish that nightvision feature had been adopted by more vehicles/brands by now. I'd love that for all of the rural driving I do where deer everywhere.

How about the cgeesey plastic feeling stick to select transmission on tbe cullinan. When driving and moving the car from forward to reverse you get it confused with the wipers repeatedly on the cullinsn

AKG makes excellent, studio-quality headphones (see the USA for Africa "We Are the World" video). I have the older K240DF model - it's my third pair because my dog (when she was a puppy) chewed through the cable of my first pair of K-140s while I wasn't looking - I wondered why she was abnormally reticent when she was hanging out with me in the man cave. AKGs are fantastic headphones, even to this day, so I suppose their automotive speakers aren't too shabby.

It's crazy to think that the best you could get technology wise in the 1st Escalade back in 99 was the back seat TV's. What else amazes me is that a 23' Escalade cost more them my first house...

I love this car, what GM needed to be doing since they came out with the LT4. The stereo, I must say looks amazing but the best stereo I have ever heard is the Fender system in my old GLI. Can’t wait to hear this one.

Bout time for sure! You can tell Doug is really into smoothies right now to suggest plugging in a blender for the back seat. Probably recently discovered the big bag of frozen fruit at Costco. This rig could use some front fender side vents for the engine bay.

It's funny to think the 1st.Escalade in 99 had a measly 255 h.p. out of it's 5.7/350(basic design from 1955) and now you have 685+ h.p out of its 6.2 litre. Ya it's supercharged but 1/2 a litre and over 400 more h.p.

i agree with the looking plastic shifter witch is old fashion they should of made a seesaw done and put the turn signals steering wheel also the wiper

If a car has a soft limiter for reving while in park just put it in neutral then rev it. It will turn off the limiter and then you can rev it to your hearts content!
