Sorry guys, the cargo space graphic is wrong, should be 22.4 cu ft. Some of you have asked about the LX trim. It's new and will be on Honda's website sooner or later. Trust me, it's coming to the USA.
I like that Honda does not make you get captains chairs in upper trims. Really wish the removable middle seat was in all trims. Most of the time my family is best served by two in the middle and a pass through but there are those times when you really need to get in an extra passenger and/or maximize cargo space.
As the owner of a 2000 Odyssey with over 200K miles, the naturally aspirated V6 is a big plus for me. We keep our cars long term, and I'm wary of turbos. Looks like a lovely road tripper.
Honda naturally aspirated cylinder engines, at least in my experience, are bullet proof. It may not be the latest in technology but I think it'll be there working the long haul in a way that some of the more complex turbocharged engines won't be.
@@robertrocheville7769In my 2018 Odyssey: Fuel injector recalls, Cat failing at 78,000 miles, capless fuel cap issues, 9 speed trans feels terrible, but yea, the engine seems solid.
To be honest I think there are at least a dozen things that are more important than screen size. For instance, in a family car, cargo space, passenger space, seat comfort, gas mileage, price, running costs, safety ratings, safety features, driving experience, noise levels, easy of third row access, reliability etc all would be a more important part of a choice for me than screen size. It would have to be quite the tie for that to be an important factor. I have cars with screen sizes ranging from 4 to 7 to 12.3 inches and when driving rarely do I care. Definitely prefer the larger size but it really isn't that important to me compared to all those other things.
I agree. Screen size is very low on my list. Seat comfort and overall interior space is king. I don't drive and stare at my screen not even when changing radio stations. That's what steering wheel controls are for.
Alex, I have to give you some feedback on your videos. You know how a lot of the premium youtube car channels seem to think its boring to go over different trims and specs? They seem to think all we want to do is see them womp on the car/truck. Well I *really* appreciate how thorough your videos are. The details do matter and you do an excellent job at presenting those in an entertaining manner. Keep up the great work!
Great video as always, Alex. One comment/suggestion/feedback: when showing the exterior and interior dimensions, could we also see what their respective luxury counterpart has? Pilot/MDX, Pathfinder/QX60, etc...people might cross shop those as well so seeing them added on that list would be nice!
@@LifeBehindE Absolutely correct. We have an Acura RDX but during the pandemic, we acquired two dogs. We love them, but now our vehicle is a bit small when we take everyone, and we are finding of course that the dogs are messy. First and foremost we want to go up in size, and will consider the MDX, however given our messy dogs I've become very interested in this new Pilot. Especially learning that it has the same SH-AWD system. So, I am someone who is actively cross shopping both.
Just cost cutting from Honda. LED turn signals must be expensive enough since they have to flash constantly (if people even use them 😂). VW tends to include these on all their cars, including the base Jetta. Honda is just cheap and always has been.
I expect it has to do with supply chains. When you make a few hundred HyperCars, you can trim them out with anything. But if you are Honda or Toyota and have retooled your factories to delivers millions of vehicles, then you had better have massively capable LED manufacturers lined up and under contract. Not so easy to grab that big a slice of the LED pie.
I thought I might have to go with a mini van for cargo and MPG (sienna). Now with this and the Grand Highlander I will get an SUV. I hope to see a side by side comparison for the Grand Highalnder Max Hybrid and this one or sport version. One of these will need to be my next car. Unless the 4runner gets a great upgrade MPG...I'll sacrifice cargo just to have another 4runner. I have an old 4runner and Pilot right now but they both have over 260K miles. It's about time for something new.
Love the new 23 Pilot Trailsport-- just test drove the EX-L at local dealership at it drives great with a nice exhaust note! Fingers-crossed that Honda will build enough trailsports--- so there will be more inventory available!
Hey @honda big fan of panoramic sunroof here. Pro tip: it’s ALL about the light in the cabin. I don’t care about opening it. Make it a one large fixed glass and call the day. Cheaper and thinner solution. You’re welcome!
2024 Honda Pilot owner here... I thought the same about screen coming from a vehicle with a 12 inch screen... After 20 minutes of driving... The Honda Pilot screen is the perfect size for google maps navigation and apple car play ( I use my screen for navigation and Apple car play primarily) !! My google maps and navigation on my 12 in screen was way too wide and I had to make it smaller and even then most my apps had to bee adjusted down to smaller size because on a 12 wide display is not really practical... I had to add 2 other bs data apps on the 12 inch display just to cover the space on the 12 inch screen that was not needed or important... Honda Pilot wins in all categories. Driving dynamics, quality, reliability, features, natural v6 (no bs turbos with a weak inline 4 cylinder Toyota), price, honest dealers vs Toyota trying rip their customers off Honda wins!! I love 2024 aggressive boxy look with ultra strength steel they added... They built this one like a tank... Literally...
I'm disappointed that the TrailSport can't get the 8 passenger option and that it's only 8.3 inches of ground clearance, that's the same as my Rogue Select. I will say however I much prefer and have much more confidence in the front recovery point in the skid plate vs the eyelet on the Subaru Wilderness models, I'd trade off on getting muddy or dirty for that personally.
I mean.. to say Subarus are terrible off road is pretty ridiculous. They’re not as good as a Jeep, but they are not meant to compete there. Watch videos of Subarus off-road on other channels and you will see they are better than most going light off-roading. Honda does have really good awd though, will give them that.
I agree with you unless they're philosophy, the Pilot stuck in the front facing down you are towing the vehicle from the rear. But as you said, the challenging is to get to the recovery point in the mud, and possibility to rip off the front bumper towing the car.
I suspect, like the Highlander and Pathfinder, that Honda will update the Pilot to have an 8-way power passenger seat after a model year or two. Toyota in particular, alongside propagating their new infotainment, have brought 8-way power passenger seats across the board to the Limited trims. The 12" Infotainment screen from the Accord is also an easy upgrade for the mid-cycle refresh.
I don’t know why you people crying for the 12” screen, do you guys watch a movie with the 12” screen or something? Or is it not big enough for your GPS or the back up camera? 12” screen does nothing for me except creating more blind spots
god damn- enough- enough abut 12, 14, and 18" screens while you're supposed to be DRIVING. Complete non-starter a 9" touch screen 24" inches from your eyeballs is MORE than adequate.
hahaha i was just test driving and thought the same thing! Its a more masculine Pilot again and should have a shifter. The buttongs make me feel uneasy. I never know if I am in park or reverse or what. I like the tactile shifter and to be able to use it quickly. Not fumbling over and second guessing buttons.
@@ABishop681 Yes Andrew.. I totally agree with you 100%.. I think a lot of people agree with you and me - a traditional shifter would have been MUCH better.. I think Honda did a pretty good job with the new Honda.. but it would'a been even better with just a good old traditional shifter.. instead of that push button shifter.. Not sure why Honda did that... BTW, the new Civic, New Accord, New CRV all have traditional shifters.. but they went with the push button on the Pilot.. That is a shame.
Advice to all new vehicle buyers: please familiarize yourself with the recovery points of these newer vehicles because they’re getting less obviously placed, less accessible, or disappearing altogether. Last thing you want when you are stuck is a tow truck being forced to latch onto a suspension part or the wheel because they cannot find the newer access points and end up damaging your vehicle.
I don't think that's a problem for the tow truck driver. The previous generation Pilot with the 9 speed is to worry about. You need to know how to put that sucker into neutral.
I love my Honda Element and wish they were still in the lineup. Like Doctor Who's tardis, they are some how bigger on the inside than on the outside. And, like the S2000 I wish I had never sold, it's actually appreciating in value.
Putting the recovery point in that location makes it useless, also that interior is sooooo cheap looking, and the gauge cluster is waaaayyyy outdated..., got to be one of the worst gauge clusters on the market, they took a big step backward with that....other than that, I actually like it. It's useless for me here in Alaska, but I'd drive it if I didn't live on the side of a mountain lol
I drive my vehicles for 7-8 years. No way I'm fiddling with this tiny 9 inch screen for a $50K vehicle when all other 3 row SUVs have 12 inch screens, And, I am not waiting for the 2026MY refresh for the updated 12 inch Googe-assistance infortainment system. Plus no height adjustment on the front passenger seat (4-way power instead of the more common 8-way in the competition?) Just reliability and resale isn't going to cut it for me. I want all the latest tech and nice interior features, which this car is sorely lacking.
I’m not traveling down any rocky terrain, so I’d prefer one of the more street oriented versions. It’s such a shame that manufacturers don’t usually offer their more rugged-looking, off-road styling, on the more upscale offerings, as I’m not a Soccer Mom/Dad. Couldn’t they at least help me to “look” a little cool in their vehicles? 😋
please don’t tell them to add worthless “nice to haves” like wireless charging above the glove box; we don’t need the price of the pilot to get even higher
Apparently, a lot I'm getting old at just 60+. But that would not be the most important feature to worry about for me. That would be way down the list for me. Especially when it's a perfectly fine screen in the vehicle. I would prioritize heated/ventilated seats and heated Steering wheel over screen size.
Agreed. It speaks to laziness of the design team for Accord not sharing the new bigger screen (and better software too.) Or perhaps it was the bean counters wanting to hold to a price point. Or maybe it's just a matter of leaving something for the mid-cycle refresh. Whatever it is, it's annoying. At the end of the day though, the lack of 4-way lumbar on the driver's seat is more annoying to me than the display size.
By the way, when you said this is not King of the hill, I can't really detect anything in the video that told me so, at least as far as price. I'm getting the feeling this might be the best damn three-row crossover and with bigger third-row headroom than super-sized SUVs (?) Fogettaboutit! I wish I liked the new CR-V but I really can't stand it. I think Honda hit it out of the park with this Pilot, though.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this Pilot needs Accord’s 12 inch screen, besides that, it also needs a hybrid option, also, get rid of that fake exhaust tips and I will definitely buy one.
People complain about a screen in a car that really isnt needed. Give me a regular radio with bluetooth and integrated adjustable phone mount and buttons for climate control etc. People are looking at their phones much more than these screens. They are a waste of money imo. I own vehicles with both and it is the last thing I would miss or consider when buying a vehicle.
@@adamnagel7436at this point cars with android auto or Apple CarPlay are so much easier than using your phone and that’s definitely what a lot of the market agrees with
dont care much about the lcd.. what? 14.. 18.. 20 inches of lcd wont last you 200k miles🤷🏻♂️ car is not a living area or tv room that you can watch your favorite epic movie. cars meant to be driven, the important are the driving dynamics, comfort, reliability and dependability thats all that matters, not your lcd shit🤦🏻♂️
Seems like the new Pathfinder in Platinum trim would be a good comparison based on size and features. The Nissan has more features like power adjustable steering wheel, 4 way lumber and more passenger seat adjustments as well, but it does not have the removable center seat. I've tried the Highlander and it felt more cramped than the Nissan or Honda and I could not get comfortable in the seats, they felt one size too small. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 190 so fairly average was very surprised how uncomfortable I found the Toyota. Great info as always, thanks Alex!
Honda is really the master of smart packaging. Nicely done! IIRC, Toyota has placed the wireless charging mat in the parcel shelf in the updated Highlander :)
The seatbelt straps in the back of the vehicle unlatch at the base of the seatbelt and retracts into the ceiling where you can tuck the C hook into the ceiling port if you have no use for the center seatbelt instead of pulling it over out of the way. I think you use the seatbelt metal insert to release the belt. Awesome video- thank you!!
Very comprehensive review... great job. As a 2017 Pilot owner, this is candidate for the next time around. I have always liked the bright trim molding around the single DLO on the current Pilot and on the latest gen MDX. The separate "trapezoidal 3rd row windows on the '23 Pilot is without doubt the ugliest thing about the new design. Its shape doesn't look like it belongs on this vehicle and the blind spots are too big. I'm a big fan of the old SOHC J35 V6... relatively simple and robust. I hope the DOHC and cam phasing is trouble free. Ten speed AT is best-in-class.
@@mikemills8765 DayLight Opening... the outline of the side glass. In the example I gave, the vertical window frames at B and C pillars are blacked out and all of the side glass is outlined with one molding.
And that middle row flexibility is a big plus. I looked at a Palisade Limited a few months back and I was told by the sales rep that it’s only captain chairs. So I am paying for more features; but I get less seating options. That didn’t make sense to me.
The removable second row middle seat is a game changer. I sell cars and so many people ask if a vehicle has a pass thru middle. If it's removable on all trims that's going to help this Pilot sell.
@@jaytibby the trailsport doesn't get the removable seat because the place where the seat is supposed to go in the touring and elite is the spot for the full size spare tire
The exactly only thing I don't like in this version is the trapezoidal last window, which I also don't like on Durango, it's small, seems like they got it from another car and fit it after the car was ready, although apart from that, the car is really nice. I really like the front and the name on the back over the black stripe. In black color, the window doesn't bother me that much.
The removable center seat was a good idea but appears poorly executed. That mechanism could have been designed better to not protrude so high and the remaining 2 seats could have been designed to accommodate flip down armrests for when the middle seat is removed.
Alex, great video as always. I do wonder about the Bose sound system in the Touring/Elite vs the alternative in the EX-L. Is the Bose really worth going to a Touring. I know there are other items, like the pano, roof racks in the top two trims. Just asking about the sound. Thank you.
I have a 2012 Honda Pilot and love it, but it is getting about time to buy a new one. I did not like the third generation Pilot's body style. I had my eye on the Kia Telluride until I saw this 2023 Pilot. Now my loyalty will stay with Honda.
Honda almost had it. But still missed the mark with the competition, regarding technology and features. How they let Toyota have that advantage is beyond me! I can only imagine what the next Gen Highlander will be. That 9inch sceen is a slap in the face, since the new Accord has a 12 inch screen now, although the Pilot supposed to be the benchmark vehicle. How, Sway?🤷🏿♂️
@@naveenthemachine We can agree to disagree on this one. I used to prefer Honda over Toyota. But I have to call a spade a spade on this one. We're in a market right now, where the Millenials and Gen Z drivers are dominating. That age demographics will not only looking for a dependable vehicle, but the best technology for the money. And that's where Honda is lacking at. They catered more to loyal seasonal drivers (Baby Boomers and Gen X), than attracting younger buyers. So again, why Honda gave the biggest infotainment screen to a vehicle who sales are declining due to crossover and SUVs, and not the their big flagship vehicle, the Pilot? Something got to give and Honda ain't giving it! Now, I only used Toyota as an example, because their arch rivals. But then you have the Telluride, Palisade, CX-9, Pathfinder, Atlas, etc, all pretty much stepped to the plate in technology and performance, making Honda looking kinda lazy.
I take it Honda has abandoned their "lane watch" that came out way before Kia started doing something similar on the Telluride (and Hyundai on the Palisade)? That's too bad if true - that's a feature I appreciate, at least in principal and as seen on RU-vid videos.
I keep saying this. What if all Ridgeline truck trims come with the TrailSport type hardware. They would need to tune for Pickup Truck Duty. I have feeling they may do this. Possible with Passport also.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide This feels like an awful time to get a small truck. Between the Markups on the Maverick and pending release of the 2024 Tacoma and Ridgeline I’m kind of stuck.
One thing I really don't understand is why so many companies are producing these extreme off road vehicles when nobody really needs a vehicle for that. It's a hobby, leave it to the Wranglers. People wanted manual transmissions but manufacturers said it was too expensive for the limited market. It seems like more people would want a manual than people who drive their vehicles over big stones for fun.
Its not about the capability, its about the image. How many new wranglers and broncos will actually go offroad enough to warrant choosing them over a mommy wagon like this?
First, this is NOT extreme off road capable, this is trail capable. Second, instead of investing in a completely new platform, most companies save $$$ by adding off road capability as a trim on a existing platform. Do you see any other Honda models comparable to Toyota forerunner? Lastly, sale numbers speak volumes about demand hence manufacturers are building these trims.
The Pilot TrailSport is a trim level. My suspicion is Honda did not develop this for off-road capability for Pilot. It was developed for next 3rd Gen Ridgeline redesign. Also Passport redesign. If every Ridgeline had skid plates and slight lift with tuned off-road suspension revamped AWD System. This will give it the much needed off-road cred. This has been one of Ridgeline biggest complaints.Looks are subjective. They did good in refresh of 2nd Gen. Also got rid of FWD trim. All 1st Gen Ridgeline had 4WD. The towing is other complaint max is 5,000lbs with AWD on 2nd Gen and 1st Gen. The other biggest complaint is lack of ground clearance compared to its competitors. It has them beat On-Road driving. So the people that venture Off-road with Ridgeline or Passport is more than a Pilot. Dirt Bikes, kayaks in bed of Ridgeline. So not develop for Pilot specifically. It just happened to get redesign first. Honda engineer said TrailSport had to be good On-Road also good Off-road.
I use to think exactly like you in regards to this. But over the years of having Ridgeline in family. My mind has completely changed. Honda did not have any vehicles that really have Off-road capability from factory. That doesn't mean hard- core rock crawling. Say you get to trail with ditches and ruts. People do go camping so why buy a Jeep vehicle or Toyota,Nissan. I've watched hundreds of Ridgeline videos. The market is out there. You hear the people complaining about. Consumer Reports Ranks Ridgeline High always. But the reason they give for some buyers to skip is lack of off-road potential. So Pilot, Ridgeline,Passport share so many things. I keep pushing Ridgeline,Passport but if somebody wants a larger passenger capable variant. You have Pilot.
Never get this comment that’s always left in videos like this. We take our family hauler off road every time we go on a road trip. Basically anyone that lives out west has very easy access to weekend off roading and getting off the beaten path.
Once again if you are a Honda fan you should be thanking Hyundai/Kia for forcing Honda and all the other manufacturers into constantly upgrading tech and styling. Honda and the rest LOVED to keep there styling for at least 7 years. Loved to only add advanced tech and luxury materials to there too trim. Sadly for them Hyundai/Kia changed all that 7 or 8 years ago. They added a sweep of safety features to there entry trims and allowed you to affordably add in a tech package to give you cabin a more fancy look in the lower trims. If you asked all car manufacturers which company they hate most, I can promise you they would all say Hyundai. Hyundai forced them all to copy and move away from the traditional way they preferred to rip us off with. So don’t go hey look at the cool stuff my new Honda has, what you mean to say is look at what Honda has been doing refreshing there design far quicker and how beautiful they are making the cabins all thanks to Hyundai!
I know ground clearance isn't everything, but I'll never not find it amusing that even BASE model Subaru Outbacks have more ground clearance (8.7 inches vs 8.3 inches; and Outback Wilderness editions bump that up to 9.5 inches) than this and other supposedly trail focused SUVs. And some still insist that the Outback is a station wagon.
Got a 24 Touring. At first glance, the infotainment seemed small but it's fine in use due to the taller height. Contrast that to Mazda and Chevy's with larger diagonal screens but shorter heights whose screens look so smushed in navigation mode. The only thing I wished it had was an internal camera to see the kids in the back seats. Otherwise, I don't have any complaints 3k miles in.
Alex, The boxy, upright, airy and very spacious cabin is exemplary. 🤩 On a vehicle which typically lasts over 200,000 miles, the fact the new V6 retains a timing belt is expensively inexplicable. 🤨 The lack of a hybrid is puzzling.🤔
Timing belt is better than chain. The belt gets changed every 100,000 for maybe $1,200. The timing chain and guides get changed every 140,000 for $4,500. I’ll take the belt every time.
@@JohnDoe-vh4rt Honda switched to timing chains for their 4 cylinder engines years ago. Building in several thousand dollars in extra maintenance for their new V6 engine is contradictory. Timing chains in engines from high quality manufacturers typically have NO maintenance over the long life of the engine. By 140,000 miles, the whole car will be falling apart on discount brands.
@@JohnDoe-vh4rt 2013 Toyota Camry, 142,000 miles on original timing chain with no signs of wear. Chains are superior to belts, but only when built well (unlike GM 3.6 and those Ford 5.4 and 3.5, Audis and BMWs)
I was really looking forward to this new Pilot. As expected, the mechanicals are awesome..but Honda really lacks in features. My 2017 explorer has more features than this...power pedals, power telescoping wheel, messaging seats, power fold seats in the back, etc. My explorer also has more horsepower from the same size engine. I would literally be going backwards in features by switching to this 6 year newer Honda! The Palisade has heated seats in all 3 rows and ventilated in the first two. Also much more features in seating comfort. Come on Honda!
You forget Ford can do that borrowing from Lincoln brand. They also can get from its Full-Size Pickup Truck lineup. If you go to Acura MDX you can get some features in one of their packages.
Palisade has great features but doesn't come close to the super handling AWD of honda/acura. Personally, I value driving a car more than anything else. Explorer is good to drive but the 3rd row is cramped.
@Fantasy Football Yeah but this is a 3 row suv. Driving dynamics are not the most important really. When I'm sitting in traffic would rather have a nicer interior! Do agree Honda is better at suspension though..
@@danmiller5881 Bro, the Palisade and Telluride are especially bad in city driving. That engine for whatever reason cannot perform at low rpm. Once you pick speed, it does okay but if you are in traffic, driving the Pilot would be much more comfortable. Try changing lane with Palisade when stuck in the slow lane and you will see my point. Honda excels at things that matter - like comfortable seats, regular use stuff like wireless car play and android auto, and power folding mirrors. It's MUCH bigger than explorer so that's an unfair comparison. Try it out and let me know what you think.
@Dan Miller Driving Dynamics are very important to me. How the vehicle drives handles, brakes. How it rides on a long highway trip goes over bumps in the road. That's more important to me than size of infotainment screen. Your not going to get all the goodies in Pilot. People forget that it has a cousin 3 Row SUV. The Acura MDX base they offer packages. Most vehicles don't offer adjustable pedals. Ford had that for years in some models. But when the Explorer is rated by consumer Reports and others. It gets a lower overall score. The Explorer Overall rating was 47 by Consumer Reports. The last Generation Pilot not this 2023 redesign got Overall 76 rating. So Kia looks like it's wowing people with it's interior goodies. The Honda is doing more in mechanicals. I notice same thing in their minivan a lot of creature comforts but lacking on mechanicals compared with Honda Odyssey.
Sounds like this Pilot is the new king 👑 of the segment. More interior volume, better drivetrain, better off-road capability with a superior all-wheel drive system. Regardless of the screen size, this completely out-classes the Korean twins, Subaru, and Toyota.
Honda left room for improvement, but I would wait and see how this first model of the new generation performs. Hopefully there will be no mechanical and electrical issues.
Depends on what your values are. The Korean twins (in the top trims) wow you when you open the door and get in. Very nice (seat/dash/LCD displays.) Not so much this Pilot. With that said I'd probably get this over the twins.
Great video as always! Did I miss information about the safety features, specifically Blind-Spot detection/warning, Cross-Traffic Alert, and parking sensors? If not, could you add them to your list of things to check on in the full review? These vehicles spend a lot of time on streets and in parking lots, and it would be good to know how they fare in the urban jungle. Thanks!
The pilot has the standard Honda sensing features like the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) · Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) · Forward Collision Warning (FCW) · Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). Road Departure Mitigation (RDM). includes a cross traffic monitor , which uses sensors on the rear of the vehicle to help alert you to approaching vehicles detected when you’re in Reverse.
Alex - in your time with the new Pilot, did you notice how quickly the vehicle shifted into drive after pressing the button? The outgoing model had a considerable, annoying delay when doing so. Also, were you able to engage the ADAS system and did it function well? This was a weakness of the outgoing model as well - the torque limit meant that it could only lane center on the most gentle of bends.
I'm not finding any info on a Lx trim . Not even on Hondas website. This is middle of the pack at best. Again it's a safe pick but for the price does not have any of the wow features it's competitors have. No cooled seats in second row, no blind spot camera ( Honda invented lane watch). Limited power passenger seat at least the competitors have 8 way power . Small infotainment , no 3rd row sun shades, small storage up front. For such a big vehicle 1 cubby is pretty last gen. The cubby in front of passenger is nice though. Why do you need to step up to top trim for cooled seats. At least Korean twins start that at around 43k
@@naveenthemachine maybe they used to be, idk Hondas are fine , boring but fine. Parents have 2 a 2012 Crv and a 2014 odyssey both are fine. But the odyssey has had to get it's white paint repaired multiple times as it falls off in chunks a common problem. This being the 3rd odyssey we had it's been riddle with little problems. Trim pieces , squeaks and etc.. not as solid as the 2007 we had. It's fine the pilot. But boring. Also hate the vent placement. Especially with 2 rear facing car seats . Ceiling vents are the way to go. The main reason I did not buy a current odyssey.
RAV4 is 1st in it's class. But Honda has been make their vehicle cheaper . Crv for instance lost handles to drop rear seats, lost 3 tiered door cards , lost a lot of front row storage imo compared to even the previous generation. They did this across-the-board . I'm shocked modern comforts such as cooled seats are not available in the Crv. Or a 360 camera . Which is a safety feature.
What sucks if you get the removable seat is there are no remaining arm rests for the captain chairs left behind. For this reason, I’ll not be able to have 8 passengers seating or the sport model as I would have to get the EX-L model optioned with captains chairs that will then include arm rests
We have a 2013 Highlander Limited with 145,000 miles. We were very disappointed that Toyota decided to drop the 3.5L V6 from the new generation Highlander. We drove a 2022 Highlander as a loaner and liked it. This 2023 Pilot is definitely on our shopping list. I like the look. Not crazy about the small infotainment screen or push button shifter, but the powertrain is the deal maker.
Mark, we had an 21 highlander v6 it was recently in a crash and was totaled out. We have decided to switch to the honda pilot for the v6 option. It's disappointing that toyota dropped the v6.
Sorry fanboys Honda still uses timing belt ,, very very disappointing about them , reliability it’s not on their mind , they lost so many customer me One for sure pity for engineers not paid enough to do a better job
Another great video Alex! According to Honda website, the maximum cargo volume is 87 cubic feet per SAE J1100 measurement standards. The 21.8 number behind the 3rd row includes the under floor storage. (18.6 cubic feet above the floor.)
For Alex, the new Pilot is 12-Inches away from greatness. However, for me, it's a hybrid trim away from supremacy. Honda now truly NEEDS to offer this new Pilot in a hybrid trim, and soon.
Sadly no diesel version available as gasoline engines do not best suit these types of vehicles. The BMW X5 diesel is all the car that you will ever need. Incredible torque combined with high 50s mpg.
Nice vehicle, great video. Little to large for me don’t need 3 rows. You mentioned in the 1st 2 minutes the next Passport will share the same face, boxier shape,,,Honda has been really pumping out the new models! When do you except the next generation Passport to arrive?
Most of the competitors come with 12" infotainment system, 8 ways passenger seat adjustment for this price point, the center seat belts are also clumsy too. Hope the VCM may last longer with no issue at all.
We were just out test driving the Pilot and Passport. When I got my tape measure out and checked the width of cargo area the wife snapped. "You're not hauling drywall in this car." Yikes! No matter it was under 48" more like 43" or so at the floor.
Thank you for the review. I’ve had three Honda minivans as well as two Accords. All suffered early warping of brake rotors and needed service and replacement before 36K miles. You’d mentioned that this new Pilot had larger brakes. Do you have some thoughts you might share on its potential reliability?
Absolutely love this new model, I’ll give it a few years in case there’s some bugs but this will be the replacement for my 2012 Pilot that I have. By far it’s been the best vehicle I’ve ever owned
The refreshed one will probably be the one to get in 2-3 yrs. Probably bigger infotainment screen than the 9" and OTA updates like the new Accord unit.
The new Pilot is decent but nowhere near as nice as the Palisade/Telluride, that’s for sure. They’re still the kings of the 3 row mainstream SUV segment. For example, the Palisade is cheaper than the Pilot, and some notable benefits the Palisade has over the Pilot are: - Far more luxurious exterior and interior, with soft touch and stitched leather everywhere, and a suede headliner. - Digital rearview mirror - More advanced driver’s assistance tech, such as automatic lane changing, - Much larger and more advanced displays (dual 12” screens). Pilot only has a 9” screen. - More advanced 360 camera with a drone-like mode - Turn signal blind spot cameras that display in the gauge cluster when using either turn signal - Cooled second row seats - Heated third row seats - Massaging driver’s seat - Power reclining/folding third row - LED rear turn signals (pilot only has LED in the front) - Remote parking via the key fob - More powerful motor - 10 year warranty Honda still has a long way to go to beat the Korean SUVs. Because compared to the Pali/Telli, the Pilot is boring and overpriced for what you get. And before ppl come for me and start blabbering on about “reliability” - Do your research. the Pali/Telli have been incredibly solid since launch. That V6 is very dependable. Plus the warranty and free maintenance helps ease any anxiety you may have about the Korean brands. Honda is just getting too complacent. The truth is the truth. 🤷🏻♂️
@@naveenthemachine Highlander has larger screens than the Pilot. As well as an available hybrid option. But other than that, yes, the Pilot has the Highlander beat in most other categories.
No question the Palisade is ahead on luxury but will it drive better, last better, have as flexible seating, or haul as much stuff? Those things matter too. As does the fact that, as someone who has had both Hondas and Hyundais, that Hyundai dealers (at least in my area) are terrible.
@@naveenthemachine I think the Highlander is best seen as a two row SUV with an occasional third row. Used to have one and did like its meaningfully smaller size at the time. Being a few inches shorter and narrower made a meaningful difference in a tight garage, etc. Where it falls apart as a choice is when you want to use the third row much. Perhaps the Grand Highlander will fix that.
@@almassengale the grand highlander I doubt will fix anything. Knowing toyota it will be dated, boring, poorly built, lack space and be significantly more expensive
I don’t understand the attraction of high hoods. It’s supposed to look “masculine” whatever that means. What it really does is make it hard to see what’s directly in front of the vehicle.
