The 2023 Land Rover Defender Is Fantastically Nuts With 518 HP! 

I had an LR 4 for 11 years. Just bought a 2022 4Runner limited. I will not miss the frequent trips to the LR dealership/mechanic.

Everyone commenting about LR being in the shop is hilarious. I own a RR Sport and have had zero issues.

Please clarify if the Defender is nuts or bonkers as the distinction could be crucial to some prospective buyers . 😉 On a serious note, your spare tire placement debate 4:22 was very thorough. I would only add that I would welcome a swing out tailgate as I am sick and tired of banging my head on the pop up tailgate. If buyers don't do serious off road driving, why did they buy a heavy duty, gas guzzling 4X4 in the first place? 🤔 I cannot miss the opportunity to implore Toyota to add a fourth, 2 door 4X4 to the market to compete with Wrangler, Bronco and Defender. Lastly, do those skylights remind anyone else of an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser? 😁

Why would you compare a defender to a CheapOair engine recall brand Bronco or Stellan who Cherokee

I'll just add it to the gigantic list of cars I can never afford.

Why not include the Rivian R1S in the comparison section? It is vehicle that might be cross shopped with the Defender so long as the buyer is power train agnostic.

Had 2 v8 ranger rovers , ranger rover sport diesel , defender 110 v6 , carpathain edition v8 and zero major issues . love the Gwagon but this is THE KING OF THE HILL !

I fear Toyota will not bring back the rear door mounted spare tire in the next generation Prado. In the current gen it also has a cover so it doesn't get dirty.

Cannot imagine this would be anything but a nightmare to own.

Question is. Can you afford the repair bill on this?

I like the new Defender. Would not buy it to just drive around town. This is built for off-road, other than the weird tire size which would be my first change.

Whooa who forgot the mudguards is certainly made obvious. Tough sell in the *TRULY MAD* USA hybrid market for trucks and SUVs let alone always wet and wild pure BEV Tesla. Not sure about transmissions and towing with Dread Rover but still awesome super cool look so spot on with that being pointed out as per expectations here now sad but true.

They really are notorious for being fantastic off-roaders mainly because they will be on a lift, in a garage getting up close and personal with a mechanic and not you.

I know we clown LR reliability but there’s been so many RU-vid influencers who bought the Defender and the cars ended up being lemons. Not just having a small issue but complete lemons. Crazy how poor the reliability is on these cars.

It's a nice car but I like the old school Defenders more.

The reliability of JLR is diabolical.

First, this review is good example of why you should add reliability stats/metrics to your reviews. Enough info on Defender out there now. Speaking for myself, this review is not quite balanced. It's a paradox if a Defender, with all the off-road capability, leaves you stranded off road. Secondly, even mentioning the Defender in the same sentence as/with the G class is taking the comparison too far (not a close match in enginnering generally, engine, transmission, suspensions, other mechanicals, electronics, interior, presence, handling or performance).

More capable than a Jeep?

An allegedly "off-road" vehicle comes with big wheels so you can't take them off road. People who buy this and people who make this have no brain.

'Capable' isn't the same as 'reliable'.....

You keep calling this an "upgrade" over the Bronco and the Jeep, but in reality it isn't as good off-road, it has a great chance of going wrong while you're on a trail and not getting you back at all, the interior is hardly an upgrade, and it costs a lot more. If you're after a cool looking mall crawler, I can see you driving a Defender, if you actually want to go offroad no one will seriously consider this pile.

Gotta correct you Alex, there IS a difference between 4WD and AWD. AWD vehicles have 4 wheels spinning full time and lack a low range for serious off roading. 4WD vehicles normally operate in 2WD until you engage 4WD and they have a low range transfer case.
