The 2023 Nissan Versa SR Is Affordable Transportation That Doesn’t Feel Cheap

New cars have become extremely expensive in the last few years leaving a lot of consumers to feel like a brand new vehicle is out of reach. Thankfully, the latest #NissanVersa is still one of the most affordable brand new cars on the market. #Nissan has made some updates for 2023 and the #VersaSR is an economy sub-compact car that doesn't feel inexpensive.

I just recently bought my first Versa. Sometimes you'll buy an inexpensive item & you'll say to yourself, "I can see why this was so cheap." But every now & then you'll buy an inexpensive item & you'll say, "This was a great deal for the money!" The Versa feels like a great deal.

I had many expensive vehicles in the past and present still not satisfied with them. I recently bought a used 2013 370z comes with many upgrades still unhappy, so I decided to trade for 2024 Versa SR with many features and I love it since. Will see how the vehicle last until break down. 😄

I helped my daughter pick this car for her first vehicle. She didn't care about anything other than the cost. (she is not a "car person") To me, it seemed reasonably equipped for its price point, somewhat reliable and cheap to operate. She has all the safety features she can use and a new car with warranty in case anything goes wrong with it. Not everyone is looking for 0-60 times or slalom times, as a matter of fact I'd say most people just want something that will do the daily commute efficiently, safely and at minimal cost to them.

I do think the CVT hate is overblown. Take good care of it and hope if anything bad does happen, that it happens within warranty. I've had two nissans with CVTs with well over 180K miles, no issues. Should last most people a good amount of time before it starts to cost anything- if it even does.

@@devongee1776you've got the point. CVT transmissions are kinda like turbo machines, they're much more prone to bad maintenance. If we are not into periodic car service, take some time and extra effort to use the manual transmission with more than $1k sticker price saving and lower maintenance cost. Versa's can be hard to find for this very reason and I think many people end up spending a bit more on a Sentra. When money is tight, jumping up to a Crosstrek or something isn't an option, forcing people into the used market which has it's own issues.

Sure this car is not powerful, but it meets most people’s needs, and it is a very light car so it actually feels peppy for just normal driving situations. Also 32 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway is excellent. People will be saving a lot of money with this car in terms of fuel costs. Also i love with how simple this car is in the inside. I love these affordable, basic vehicles. I drove my 2000 Mazda Protege for 17 years (until it was T-boned and totalled). It had 1.8L engine, 122 hp and around the same torque. I never felt like it lacked power since I mostly drove it in the city. On the highway, it had no problem getting up to speed or staying with the traffic. I loved the comfort of the interior, the seats were comfy. It looked absolutely lux compared to a lot of cars now (new cars have way more plastic all over inside). Gas mileage wasn't great compared to vehicles from today. Miss that car.

One of my first cars back in the '60's was a Mercury Comet (the Mercury version of the Ford Falcon) with an 85 HP 6 cylinder engine that required a whoppin' 20 seconds to reach 60. The 2-speed automatic contributed to the car's sloth. We've come a long way when today's slowest cars take half the time to reach 60. I also had a 64 Malibu SS 283 V8, also with a crappy 2-speed automatic. It was blazingly fast compared with the Comet but 3 seconds slower than the Versa in this review.

This vehicle is extremely popular in Dubai, UAE. The majority of people own either a Toyota Yaris or a Sunny (VERSA), particularly those who primarily use cars for city purposes. And honestly, it is a good vehicle considering its price point. You get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, air conditioning, two charging ports, and good mileage, even if it's not a hybrid. Most buyers of this car are individuals who use it solely for commuting to work, and it fulfills this purpose well, especially considering its compatibility with cheap fuel.

@@braetonwilson4296 Most of the people who buy a car also usually get a loan and the standard here is 5 years. I would be really happy if Hilux was offered in the US as it was the original Toyota which earned the name “Indestructible”, but Toyota only likes to sell expensive vehicles in US and Europe another example is the new iconic Toyota Land Cruiser 300 series and the list goes on.

The 2023 Nissan Vera SR is a nice smooth drive. Feels good driving, easy steering. Gas mileage is great! You don't have to put all your money in the tank. Take off is okay, not great but it will work it's way up decently. You have pretty good speed after the first take off. If you need a car to get you here and there with great gas mileage and comfortable enough, this is it. Looks are very nice. One flaw with Nissans, after ten years their transmissions give out. They are known for that. A car salesman will strive to get you to buy a new car, somewhat sneakily. Watch for that and how you finance it. The salesman will do it for his gain but not for your good intrest. Price isn't all that cheap. The cars are over twenty two thousand. Your lucky to get them down to eighteen and a half thousand. To me that's not cheap but more affordable then most cars. That's the right way to say that. Not cheap but more affordable in these days and times. Nothing cheap in price!

My problem with this car, and cars like it, is they don't last. I give this a year and it's creaking and squeaking and rattling inside. "Nissan does CVT's well"??? Nissan is the one car manufacturer that has had large numbers of failures with their Jatco brand of CVT's that they use!

My 5sp tops out at 175Kph or 108mph, the Versas are very popular in Mexico and use for taxi service. I wouldn't touch the CVT though.

Question: If you were to purchase a new '24 sedan today which would you go for: the Versa SR or the Chevrolet Malibu top of the line? Please share your enlightened verdict. Thanks! 🙏♐
@braetonwilson4296
@braetonwilson4296 8 месяцев назад
There's a higher supply of the Malibu and you can score a bigger discount on the Malibu. Chevy dealers will take 3-4k off a Malibu's price but you'll be lucky to get $500 off a Versa's price. So I would choose the discounted Malibu
@mteevie1609

Not bad for the price. This probably a car that local shop could fix without going to a dealer so your price plus maintenance cost could be cheaper than a 30k car.

Nice color, i love mine! Black SR.. lucked out and grabbed first one to drop in N Texas last New Yrs weekend 🙂 BTW, As far as Fog Lights, ya sucks they killed them off in the US for 2023, but Canada and Mexico DO get Fog Lights. why that is i have no idea. even some of their SV and S models have them! wtf 😏 other than that have no issues with the car. also i believe the SR has a Bose system (sounds too good, and lot of bass) just doesn't have the little Bose badges on the speakers. same in my daughter's Rogue. i guess Nissan just does that with certain top trim models. ☮

@@braetonwilson4296 i'm way up in OK, drove down to TX cus they're only ones who had one at the time. Nissan had posted on their website all last year the 23 Versa was supposed to be out Fall 2022, but never happened for some reason. they just started trickling out first of this year, so when i saw this SR in N Texas, drove down and grabbed it. anyway, just keep tabs on your local dealers, eventually they'll get one ☮

I think the top speed is 115 mph. It probably takes a long time to get up to that speed and no one is going to drive it anywhere near top speed, but it has enough power to cruise at highway speeds. I suspect the tunnel on the floor serves two purposes. First, it probably helps add a little to structural rigidity. Second, the car needs a tunnel to run the exhaust. It's a small car and pretty low to the ground, so they need somewhere to tuck some piping. It looks like a good bargain. It's pretty similar in size to my 2005 Corolla, which has been big enough for everything I've needed. I think the 0-60 time is also pretty close to my Corolla, which is a bit slow and somewhat noisy when accelerating hard, but quiets down and cruises nicely at legal highway speeds.

You say it's a 17,000$ car but I would have liked that you mention the price of the version you show on camera which is several thousand dollars more. Edit: Ok so the price is mentioned at the very end. 5,000$ is a lot of extra money for the highest trim, not really worth it.

Note the base 5 speed manual 2024 Versa S is now $17,660 with destination. Why just a 5 speed? The 1st gen Versa had a 6 speed with the 1.8. More gears and more torque.
