I purchased one with the Nightshade package in Celestine paint on Monday of last week. It's my fourth Toyota hybrid, and I'm super pleased with it. We have a long steep hill near us, and this is the only one that could/can take the hill at the speed limit without the engine going nuts. Definitely an improvement over my 2019 Prius AWD.
Besides being very thorough, one of the best things about Redline Reviews is that you are excited to show the good features and will warn us of all the ways the vehicle falls short. A lot of other reviewers straddle the middle.
I have owned many corollas, they are very cheap to maintain these cars. Insurance is cheaper too, because they put non expensive parts to repair unlike the competition who will put camera's that cost thousands of dollars in costs to repair. Subaru impreza had headlight bezel that cost $$2500 to fix. Simple is better if you need an affordable car, and Corolla hybrid will save you money from fuel, and last a long time. That money can help you buy a sport car.
This is the practical, reliable, and great gas mileage vehicle folks need if they donot have a large family. Great vehicle if you can find one. Expect to pay through the nose for one or wait until inventory catches up. They are made at the Toyota/Mazda plant in Huntsville, Ala. I hope the quality is as good as ones Made in Japan, we shall see. If you don't need a vehicle currently, get a 2024 model, which will allow for any quirks or kinks to have been fleshed out and fixed. 🤔
Excellent review. Camera work and preparation was top notch. We are looking at this vehicle this month as our Prius was hit head on by a illegal immigrant, no license, no insurance, di not own the car, and car registered owner had no insurance. Yikes. Prius was totaled. I just bought a Corolla LE 3 months ago and enjoy driving it for city needs. The Corolla Cross will be our travel out of state car to see our kids and grandchildren.
I have no trouble with my wireless charger in a couple of different types of iPhone cases, FYI. It always charges. My main issue with this vehicle is the engine is a bit loud but acceptable. Suspension is good, corners well, good safety tech, warned me of an imminent bumper-to-bumper issue today... good car to own. MPG as promised.
Comes only with the vacation-wrecker fix-a-flat kit. No way to even stow a spare tire because of the electrical junction in the middle of the spare tire well.
@@kevij371 Toyota is issuing a recall over concerns with faulty electricity converters that could increase the risk of a fire, with approximately 43,000 Toyota and Lexus plug-in hybrid SUVs affected by the issue. Affected vehicles include model-year 2021-22 Toyota RAV4 Prime SUVs and model-year 2022 Lexus NX450h+ SUVs.
I love Corolla’s. Driving an 06 LE now. And it’s my 4th one but when they released the cross, I was skeptical until I drove one and immediately fell in ❤. If I could afford one, I’d get one. Definitely my choice of small crossover!
@@levondarratt787 Even small families don't use the rear seats, most of the time. Most of the time it's just the driver. And for young families, a smaller back seat (smalLER, not small) is fine, because the kids are... small. Calm down.
I want a Toyota, but every time I drive one I hate the lack of steering feel. It makes the car feel bigger and less intuitive. That being said, they are the best at hybrids, resale values, reliability, etc.. This one beats out the HRV, CX30, Kona, etc in this category though.
i have a corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
I personally like the interior and exterior of the new Honda HRV more but I should have looked at this first before buying it simply because this car offers more features and power.
Why does toyota unnecessarily build the most boring cars? I also hate that “smaller” has come to equal “shittier.” Why can’t this car hv same sort of interior as rav4? Some ppl want smaller cars with similar creature comforts of larger cars.
The fact you can’t even slightly criticize a Toyota product without all their little keyboard warriors in the comments arguing and liking each others comments is crazy 😂😂 y’all should be on Toyotas payroll
So true, I’ve driven nothing but Toyotas and I’m so sick of them lol They come with issues too and I don’t feel that they are as reliable as they used to be I test drove the Corolla cross and the drive was awful, it’s only selling because of the Toyota badge. Also from what I read, there’s a lot of issues with this car.
We can harshly criticize Toyota because they make it so easy to do that Harshly criticizes Hyundai kia Honda Mazda genesis or bmw and everyone will laugh at you.
It's actually pretty impressive how well they emulate a normal drive train. You gotta remember that even the idle speed is "faked" and it simulates an idle speed. It simulates drag downhill (hence the needle dipping into the charge zone downhill). Tapping the "gas" gently downhill doesn't apply "gas", but rather, reduces the drag and returns the needle to "zero." xd Also consider that because the engine can be off while it's driving, the A/C is electric, the steering is electric, the braking is electric. The gear shift isn't shifting any gears. There's no "parking gear", so it has to engage a parking brake. All kind of mindblowing stuff.
Interesting. Going to the builder at the Toyota site, it says "not available in your region." But the site for my local dealer (literally 3.1 miles from the house) shows 4 of them on the way. Price ranges from $32,690 to $35,290.
Phx Toyota dealers are selling these models at $50k+… I ended up picking up a hybrid Tucson limited at msrp instead and I love my choice, a little larger but wayy nicer interior.
50K??!! What moron would pay that for a Corolla Cross? I hate these dumb people paying these prices and ruining it for those of us with some financial sense
Hate to say it, but my wife is an auto adjuster and she gets fire claims all the time on Hyundai’s and kias. They are death trap. Do not park your Tucson in an attached garage!
12:22 "Even though this car is all wheel drive" It is in name only. The rear wheels are powered by a tiny electric motor meant only as an assist, not to prevent wheel spin. There is no mechanical connection between the front and rear axle and it can't transfer torque. Stay far away from this type of AWD system if you encounter slippery roads on any kind of prolonged incline.
It's certainly good enough for most AWD needs. If you have lots of bad weather, then maybe, but plenty of people drive FWD in those same locations so you could just add snow tires and be more than fine. Really bad area... get a Subie.
But why in Toyotas grave mind wouldn’t they make it available with the same macadamia/cream interior as the non-hybrid XLE?!? Would’ve made the car 10x more attractive (for me personally). I know it’s ridiculous but it’s a deal breaker for me
@@alaorilla9716 glad I’m not alone, I hate all black interiors! Hopefully they’ll add it because the Corolla hatchback has the macadamia interior with the same sport seats so I think it would be pretty manageable to produce the cross with the same interior
It’s because they used the se/xse trims which are supposed to be sporty as opposed to luxurious. I’m with you though, I’d prefer the full on softex interior as opposed to the mix interior
I'm considering this car because the Crosstrek and Forester still don't have the hybrid option. I own the 2019 Crosstrek and it's a pretty great car but having it as a hybrid with 40+mpg would just be the best. Sadly, they're not having it yet and I need to get a car now. Sorry Subaru!
Agreed. They'll have hybrid options in 2025, but that's just too long of a wait for me and probably many others, and word on the street is that their MPGs on those models might not even be much higher than their standard gas models, which is a little silly. That all combined with Subaru's abysmal infotainment system (both the technology and the ridiculous iPad-size screen they're putting in all their new cars) makes me very likely to jump ship to Toyota.
Because large screens are now expected and good graphics is pleasant to look at. Once you buy a car with a large screen you cannot go back. Toyota also has outdated software that looks like it is from 1999.
Large screens are also disliked by many. I was looking at the Crosstrek and the 11 inch screen was WAY too big. You can't even use it while driving (unless you want to end up driving into the back of the next car, or SERIOUSLY testing the collision prevention system.
I bought a Hyundai Tucson Hybrid over a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid last year because of these drivability issues Toyota has the best hybrids in the world, no doubt. The problem is the cost-cutting and the lack of refinement is felt The Tucson is seamless in driving. Really feels more like an EV than a regular gas powered crossover The Rav4's interior isn't on the Tucson's level, the sounds coming from the powertrain are unrefined, and the extra 3-4 MPG isn't enough to make up that difference in refinement.
Loving 41.2 mpg over 1 year, mixed driving, double that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee we traded. Noise doesn’t bother us at all. One touch window X4 is nice. Quick acceleration is nice, usually leave others behind when the light turns green. Just under 400 miles per tank. With 100lb weight in the back storage you can feel in the steering the reduced weight on the front wheels. Not a heavy cargo hauler. Does fine on dirt roads but if you want to go off the road get a RAV4 or Subaru. Or maybe the non-hybrid version?
Toyota really needs to get on the stick and extend its Corolla Cross Hybrid line to Plug-In HEV. They tout the Cross Hybrid as having the same power train as a Prius; however, the Prius has a 'Prime' version (a PHEV), along with its RAV4 Prime, a PHEV. A Corolla Cross Prime, therefore, makes sense and should incorporate EV-only range and equivalent power train options in line with the Prius and RAV4.
Would make it more expensive than a RAV4 hybrid, and they'd start poaching their own sales. And they'd need a much more powerful electric motor. Complete redesign.
I'm not sure that squares, A_A_J. Apples to Apples, a plug in version of a Corolla Cross would unlikely out-cost a RAV4 Prime ($43,090). Also in 2024, the Venza is rumored to be coming out with plug in version; then over to Lexus, one has the NX450h PHEV. The Corolla Cross's direct competitor at Kia, for example, is the Niro PHEV; which starts at 33,840, while the Corolla Cross XSE Hybrid starts at $31,065; add the plug in feature for another $K or two and one can see there's plenty of room for PHEV options in this segment. Yes, it would need a *bigger battery* (for EV-only range), prol'ly requiring re-fit, but not necessarily a bigger electric motor.
@@levondarratt787 which would also make it more expensive, plus you lose the economy of scale for using the same engine and not having to have an extra production line. You can get ANYTHING if you want to pay for it. People looking for a corolla want to pay LESS, not more. You definitely don't need more power in this little SUV... 0-60 in about 8 seconds is more than enough.
Nicely done. A lot of information with no wasted language. Currently driving a Crosstrek and planning on getting a new car next year. I much prefer that the Crosstrek has the infotainment in the dash (can't stand that elevated screen), but I like the hybrid and improved gas mileage w/ the Toyota.
In Thailand, I guess the Corolla Cross minor change will still be 1.8 Liter engine with the new facelift. It has to compete with the Chinese EV cars which get more attention from the Thai customers.
Toyota feels like they have to stay in competition with other companies by making vehicles like this, but I guess they never realized that the cars they made in the past were the best cars ever.
Even if they place that 50 inches OLED tv in there. People will always have complaints. We can never satisfy people. We are all going to die complaining without any tiny satisfaction. And that is a fact i mean fu*k!😅
My Rav4 XSE burns out the tires all the time in sport mode, too, especially on turns. lol. It's actually kind of annoying. I've read it's a common problem with the default tires. Might need to shop around for new ones.
Good for Toyota! Glad that Soyfan reviews everyday cars, but adding some spice to the mix would be appreciated. I like it when he gets excited about the car.
I have a 2023 Corolla Hybrid and I absolutely love it! My one and only knock on it is actually the android audio...it's glitchy as heck...freezes over constantly...
