The 2023 Toyota Crown Platinum Is A Peculiar Turbo Hybrid AWD Premium Sedan

After decades of being absent from the #Toyota lineup, the flagship #ToyotaCrown is back and it replaces the long-running Avalon in Toyota's portfolio. For this 16th-generation, the #CrownHybrid is available in two difference #Hybrid powertrains, including the potent #HybridMax engine from the Lexus #RX500h. Unlike the #ToyotaAvalon, AWD is also standard and for those of you wanting an odd but more upscale Toyota Camry with hybrid electric motor, it should make for an interesting option.

As much as we want to like the new Crown, it seems like this car was very much an experiment to test the market for Toyota of Japan. The bones are good, but the execution needs some work! The good news, most of the powertrain and interior design should make its way into the next generation Camry coming for 2025!

There’s no reason to like the crown It’s awful. It’s DOA. It’s outdated It isn’t even better than my 2020 Camry XSE v6. In fact it might be worse This is just one of the many examples where Toyota continues to phone it in with their newest models
@mervinprone
@mervinprone Год назад
That’s exactly what happened when they redesigned the Avalon. The 3.5 V6 initially appeared in Avalon in 05 then made its way to Camry for ‘07. I can’t imagine they’d be stupid enough to eliminate the V6 without replacing it with something comparable. Camry Hybrid Max, coming soon.

I’ve got the Platinum bicolor red. For all those who think the bicolor is ugly, I get complements on that color and styling every day. For some reason, most people are really impressed by that combination. I’m disappointed you didn’t mention the self parking feature on the Platinum. I’m 76, short and it is perfect for me. Smooth ride (could care less about sporty ride), plenty of power for passing, it’s height is great. I can’t stand the low height of most sedans including Lexus today. I keep getting curb rash on lower height cars, plus the 360 camera is very helpful for parking. It’s very quiet and the safety controls, cruise control, etc. keep me out of trouble.

I have the white, black bi color. I have gotten numerous positive comments on it. You need to see it in person. On the highway we have had cars move out of the passing lane I assume thinking in the review mirror they see black, white, halogen lights and are not sure if it is a police car or not. In over 4 months I have yet to see another Crown on the road.

I am just glad Toyota still makes a sedan. I keep hearing how much more room crossovers have and it is nonsense. The majority of these little cross overs are no roomier than a nice sedan. The only way you get a more substantial amount of room is when you get the large cross overs like a CX9 or a SUV like a Telluride and even then if you use the 3rd row in the CX9 it turns your cargo area into nothing. I have a nice full size Cadenza that is spacious and comfortable with a really nice size trunk that can hold all the luggage for a family. As for the seating position that so many people love about cross overs, most sedans come with fully adjustable driver seats that allow you to sit as upright as you want. I personally hate the seats in cross overs and SUV's. Yes its a rant, every time I read a new automotive article some car company is cancelling a sedan and its frustrating . It is to the point i am not sure the reviewers even understand the massive shift from sedans, and yet they constantly remind us every review that we apparently hate them and love SUV's, to the point they question why carmakers even make new sedans. Stop asking why, its because a lot of people still love a good comfortable sedan. Doug Demuro is the absolute worst when it comes to his degradation of sedans, UNLESS its a Mercedes or BMW he seems to be ok with those even though most people cannot afford to step in to a Mercedes dealership. I am a big guy I do not need to sit high, I can see just fine in my compact sedan that I daily drive, yes, I know some people need SUV's, but like pickup trucks most people who drive them truly do not need them.

Its a 45k to 50k interior when you consider the whole product. Full size car, awd, good mpg, and quick enough in plat guise. I predict a lot of these being on the automotive equivalent of a clearance rack. The new Camry and Crown Sport will be popular though.

I look forward to every one of your videos, very good job. The only thing I would request is one more segment. Lighting is very important to people now and I believe your videos would be much more complete with interior light and exterior lighting segments. It only Hass to be a minute or so, but people want to see what it looks like at night inside and out. Please add this to your videos since you have this for an entire week. I don’t believe it’ll take much more time to go out one evening and do a few minutes of video. Thank you for all your hard work.

That's a good idea. I'm guessing that headlight quality isn't all equal. I know my 2019 nissan altima has some brilliant headlights. Are all led lights similar? Speaking of nissan, this toyota Crown reminds me of the Maxima. Not everyones cup of tea, but they did sell a lot of them and nissan isn't going to be offering them anymore, so there's a market, that's for sure. I think the two tone paint looks good. Lexus is an old guy car, this is unique.

We've been trying to add night time interior ambient lighting if the vehicle has that feature! Getting the exterior lighting can be a challenge at night due to our camera's low-light performance, or lack thereof lol. We will continue to work on improvements based on the feedback you guys give us! Thank you so much!

Wow, 20 years of Hybrid Technology and ZERO performance improvements! Nothing! WTF Over? I mean, there were performance Hybrid sedans many years ago that have better performance specifications than this dog. They market it as "New", but the Powertrain technology is outdated. Sorry, you can't fool us Toyota.
@bigcjm

Name that list of performance sedans with better specs.. because the rlx sport hybrid was over 60k. The ct6 phev if you could find one was over 60k. The Volvo s60 hybrid is well over 60k and not even close price wise loaded. The truth is this is actually the cheapest vehicle with specs like this. Full size does 60 in 5 secs and avg 27 mpg on regular fuel. Bro this type of vehicle is brand spanking new to mainstream buyers period.

This reminds me a lot of the old Honda Crosstour. It's not sure if it's a car or a crossover, it's goofy looking, somewhat practical and will sell in low numbers to Toyota diehards who are looking for the next generation Avalon (which is what they should have called this thing to begin with).

A little confused as to who this car is supposed ti appeal to. Had a Avalon years ago that looked much better than this inside and out. The inside has all the charm of the old Yellow cab. The two-toned paint makes the black plastic on the front more pronounced and cheap looking. Definetely does not look like a $60k car.
