#kawasaki #zx4rr #screamer
My first ride on an #inline4 #ninja . This small displacement four-cylinder high-revving engine is a smooth and exhilarating experience.
At the heart of the ZX-4RR is a liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve inline-four displacing 399cc. Bore and stroke measure 57.0 x 39.2mm, which is almost identical to the 1990 ZXR-400R, which measured 57.0 x 39.0mm and displaced 398cc. From there, however, this new engine is fully modern, benefiting from more than 30 years of technological advancement, including electronics that simply didn’t exist back then. Engine redline is 16,000 rpm. Although the US press kit only quotes torque figures (26.5 lb.-ft. @ 11,000 rpm), our European correspondent informed us that the UK press kit lists power at 77 hp (without ram air), and 80 hp (with ram air). At least this provides us with a ballpark figure, assuming that the model is the same for both markets.
Ingesting air from the front of the fairing is a ram air duct that feeds the airbox via intake funnels in two different lengths of 40 and 60mm. The engine’s large oversquare bore allows for more valve area with 22.1mm intake and 19mm exhaust valves. Feeding the engine are 34mm throttle bodies with Kawasaki’s latest Electronic Throttle Valves (ETV), allowing the high-spec ECU (rider aids are discussed below) to precisely control both the fuel to the injectors and the air entering the intake stream. The intake ports are cast with a super fine sand, resulting in smooth surfaces. The intake port area near the valves has been machined to create a very straight path into the combustion chambers to maximize airflow.
Ultra-lightweight cast-aluminum pistons have a molybdenum coating on the skirts for durability, while a reasonable 12.6:1 compression ratio ensures regular gasoline can be used (for reference, the 1990 model’s compression ratio was 12.1:1). Pistons slide in die-cast aluminum cylinders with an open deck design. The connecting rods have a carburizing treatment to help improve durability, while the crankshaft’s light flywheel mass contributes to the engine’s quick-revving nature.

Tip for taking off with the mt09 (2024). The idle comes up automatically when the clutch is right before the friction point. When you're anticipating the light to change, let your clutch out until the idle perks up... ready to go.

I have a '24 ZX4RR 40th anniversary color version. I'm in Japan though so it's the full 77hp version and also with weak yen price I paid in total (taxed and registered) worked out to only around $8k USD so I would say I got a pretty good deal. If I was still living in US though with the nerfed version of it and higher price tag not sure I would have gone for it. I absolutely love it though not going to lie. That engine and color scheme it's going to be a forever bike for me.

@@SWTVENOM Guzzis are not known for the reliability, which is why I would keep my current Yamaha alongside it. The Guzzi is not too unfairly priced if you compare it with the Tracer 9. They had a demo model at the dealership going for $12,500.

Australia 14500 max RPM from the shop and 75hp claimed from the full 77hp so not that bad in comparison to what you said USA getting which is stupidly underpowered. In Australia there's no point in doing ECU etc ( cost $15000 Aud zx4rr 40th anniversary with 1 year on roads + a *2 year unlimited km warranty included) *if Kawasaki dealer does the log book service @ 1000km & 12000km etc or 1 year warranty if you service her yourself here in Australia so what is warranty in the USA?. Honda 450RL has 1yr warranty & the Husqvarna te300/350 only has 30 day warranty 😡🤬 and both road registered. Looking like 450RL will be in the stables soon vs the KTM/HUSKY 300cc that I REALLY wanted). I absolutely love the 2024 40th anniversary colours being honest vs any other colour scheme atm

You'll know when you've been riding a long time. You won't look at the spec sheet. You wont know how powerful the bike is, how much it weighs and what the 0-60 time is. And when someone says, "I wouldn't get that, for that money I'd get ..........", you won't even bother to listen. The only thing that you will know and the only thing that will matter to you is how the bike performs for you, the way you ride it, where you ride and how you ride it. I learned to ride, off road, 41 years ago. I've been licensed for 30 of those years. I've ridden a host of bikes in that time. I even had a GSXR 750 in the garage at one stage. My current bike? A W800 with a whopping 47 rear wheel horsepower. Not because I'm old and slow. Because it works so well everyday and I can thrash it to within an inch of its life, and that's fun. You can't do that on a Buell Cyclone, and ST1100 or a GSXR 750. I wish I'd known all the way back when I was young, what I know today.

If there is only one thing that I could pass onto a less experienced rider when it comes to bike choice, don't try and keep up with the Jones's and don't kid yourself that "more" is somehow better. It isn't. Just because a chainsaw is more powerful and more expensive than a knife doesn't make it a better tool to cut up your salad with. Quite the contrary, in fact. Motorcycles are a tool. @@jamesgeorgevellavella1961 Thanks for your reply. Yeah, you're about the same age as my mentors were when I took up motorcycling all those years ago. Some were even older. I used to call them "grey beards" (Not to their face!). They were always the ones that would say to me "You don't want one of those, if it doesn't kill you, it'll send you broke trying". "Get a Honda CB 550/ Yamaha XJ650/Honda CX500", or something similar "All the bike you'll ever need and then some". "They're cheap, they don't break down, and if they do, there are parts everywhere for them... cheap". Of course, I was in my late teens/early twenties and knew far more at that age than the knowledge that they had collectively accumulated over the decades, didn't I. Oh well. I completely disagree. I started my riding on 75 cc, 100cc, 185cc, and 250 cc dual sports 45 years ago. Then after long hiatus about 14 years ago got back into motorcycling and worked my way up the power and bike quality curve . The W800 is a budget retro bike. Old school tech with mediocre suspension, handling, and performance. Been there done those motorcycles until I could afford better.. I now ride 2022 Versys 1000 200+ mile days on the weekends and much prefer the benefits of liter bikes. Great power, amazing suspension, quality handling, and braking performance even on marginal quality roads. There is simply no comparison in smiles for the mile and filling the gaps in between in great comfort, added safety with 2-up capability and sport touring performance.

It's a nice bike. But expensive for what it is on the street. This bike made specifically for track use, and especially for people looking for smaller track bike, cause it has all the set ups you would want. On the street, it sucks, nonexistent torque to get the same torque as Ninja400/500, you need to rev it way higher, the same problem with zx6r or any 600cc supersport, I can say it's even less usable than zx6r, the only thing makes it's better for the street is slightly more comfortable seating position. You buy it for the sound. On the street, sport bike wise, RS660 probably the most usable middle weight and below for the money right now or the recent Suzuki GSX8R

Modern bikes are very jerky. High compression, light weight flywheel, and DFCO Deceleration Fuel Cutoff makes them nasty to ride when you're on/off throttle. Kawasaki seems to handle the combination of these factors better than most.
