Happy Saturday everyone! Hope your weekend is off to a great start! The Subaru Crosstrek may be the top seller the space but the Corolla Cross Hybrid is still the only hybrid in the segment and its sales are increasing every year! We're also expecting Lexus to send over the revised 2025 UX 300h very soon, which shares a platform with this vehicle and also gets the new hybrid powertrain from the Prius that is also in this car.
Nice review and editing! Side note…. I wonder if the extra beep is cause the sunroof isn’t fully closed. My friend’s Toyota does that and we found out that the sunroof was slightly not fully closed.
7:47 The spare tire part is wrong, sadly: Toyota stuck the high-voltage cable to the rear motor under the foam divider, so you couldn't put a spare there. (But that's better than on the RAV4, where that cable is on the outside and gets corroded in winter, and the hybrid warranty ignored!)
Well..... it's the same hybrid system as the Prius, but it's definitely about 8mpg less than the Prius simply due to the Cross's size, extra weight and height
That is exactly one of the main reasons that I no longer drive a Toyota vehicle because of the outlandish markups for almost every single Toyota on their lot. There are a lot of other great manufacturers out there that make fantastic quality vehicles. I am so tired of corporate greed, and dealer greed.
I got mine at MSRP and couldn’t be happier! All the dealers in my area were charging insane markups, so I ended up having to buy it in the state over from a friend of a friend who worked at Toyota.
42 MPG and under 7 seconds, 0-60, is a pretty rare combination, for any vehicle, at any price. Starting at $33k for an SE model, with standard AWD, with more power and MPG than anything else, I think its a steal.
I tested this car when car shopping for my sister. All Toyota dealerships in the state were back ordered for 1+ years and had crazy $5k markups when they did deliver. We ended up settling with the new 2024 Kona SEL for $8k less and vastly superior interior tech.
@@mfr5725honestly I'd rather pay more for the Toyota. Hyundai is nowhere near as reliable. They might have more tech but Toyota is the best when it comes to long-term reliability and uses higher quality parts to run their cars.
I always feel like all these car reviewers hate on the only cars an honest mechanic recommends. They rave about cars that will break down within 100k miles. Career longevity? 😂 I'll stick with my Toyota.
This exact car in Europe is extremely nice. Better display, much better looking inside and out, panoramic sunroof, 19 inch rims, etc. etc. we always get shafted here stateside…🤷🏻♂️
An extra set of beeps is the rear seat reminder on newer Toyota vehicles, but I don’t think that’s what you experienced - it sounded more of a long beep. If you open a rear door (i.e. putting a child, object in the back seats), it will alert you when you attempt to lock the doors, as you did. I believe it unlocks the doors (even though I don’t think it did on your tester) and plays the beeps because you likely forgot something or someone in the back. Of course you can turn it off; it’s a feature with TSS 3.0 vehicles. Great video as always!
0-60 in the 6 second range is impressive for any corolla, let alone a Corolla SUV, especially since the regular version is very slow. As long as you realize you’re getting an economy car.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the Corolla Cross, it just feels incredibly generic. Normal buyers will like the Toyota reliability, good usability and great MPG, but there's nothing else to write home about. Sadly at $36k, that isn't good enough.
Wrong. Everything is wrong with the corolla 😂 It’s not attractive, it’s not luxurious inside, the materials and build quality are subpar to the point where Tesla looks better, tech is dated, back seats are useless, it’s not that great to drive, it’s not practical and it’s way overpriced The corolla cross as is the case with almost any new Toyota is dead on arrival
Crazy that, as priced, is mid 30K in price. Also crazy that this vehicle is considered "a more affordable vehicle". If I were to get a new car, today, I'd get the Prius. Still not perfect, but preferable to this. And at the same price, a much larger center screen.
Your review of the back space is spot on. A lot of prospective buyers think this is an inexpensive alternative to the RAV4. It isn't. If you have a growing family and need second row space, this car won't work. As an aside, you will find most of the hybrids already pre-sold. The percentage sold, as you reported, is not because of demand but because of the supply constrictions at the new Mazda-Toyota plant in Alabama. Apparently, there is a shortage of skilled workers in that state. If Toyota was able to produce (or import) more of these cars, the numbers would be higher
I say it's worth it, given that it gets over 40 MPG, gets you to 60 in under 7 seconds. Find me another vehicle that can do that, carry 5 people and their stuff, with AWD And the average new car costs $10k more than this.
Sofyan, Toyota makes several models on the TNGA-C platform. When we consider the Corolla sedan, Prius and Corolla Cross CUV, it may come as quite a surprise that the Cross has the shortest wheelbase of the 3. No wonder back seat legroom is so inadequate. 🤨
The MSRP on the Cross is what they used to sell the Rav4 for! The Cross is so marked up , you might as well buy a Rav4 for the same money. If you can find a Rat4 Hybrid.
Great car for seniors; power hatch and shallow cargo space saves backs, comfortable adjustable driver's seat with good ground clearance to save hips/knees, and lots of safety features that dampen down slower reaction times.
My brother in laws new 2024 camry (base model) is really quiet and smooth. Definitely smoother than my tesla Y and 2020 prius prime. Its just all these small toyota cars have terrible sound.
If you had lifted that foam piece all the way out, you would have seen that you cannot fit any spare tire there because Toyota blocked the space with hybrid wiring components.
I have read that a company called Modern Spare makes a tire that will fit if the foam is removed. Don't know how true that is but I'll check into it. But I believe to do so the tire needs to be resting on top of the power cable. Not sure how smart that is.
8:50 I couldn’t tell if it was one or 4 extra beeps, but my 2023 Prius beeps 4 times after locking as a reminder that I opened the rear doors and to check the rear seats before I leave - like if I left a child or other important item in the car
Great review. Considering between this and the crosstrek. Definitely prefer the bigger screen of the crosstrek and sportier feel but the fuel economy of this hybrid is a huge selling point for me
Well it might have good fuel economy and hybrid but the front end looks ugly. From the quarter panel to the rear looks better. Toyota need to work on their design for smaller vehicles
I really like the overall exterior of the Corolla Cross. I always notice them when I see one on the road. My concern is that the interior is not only bland, it looks too basic & cheap which is sad. For my purposes in the city, I’m sure it’s all I need but it’s hard to get excited about buying one if I feel like I’m “settling” for this interior just for a reliable Toyota (& yes, a hybrid).
I went with the SE instead of the Prius AWD as egress as I age, 64, questionable, and snow depths. ALL the dealers in NW order the sunroof package 99% of time. Didn't want to wait, didn't want sunroof, wanted paddles... In 4-1/2 months, don't use paddles, use sunroof ALL the time 🥴 I ALWAYS hypermile. Get 80+MPG non highway, 56-59 highway, didn't get number for freeway 70mph... I'm single haven't had a passenger in @10 years, going to remove front passenger seat for maximum utility, still have rear seats if needed. Perfect. The XSE instruments panel would be nice, but not $3k! Everything else is useless fluff, bigger wheels cut economy.
Looks great for my small family or daily commuter for my wife but all the Toyota in Alberta onlt have the gas version and all their other hybrid vehicles are 6 months wait if you're lucky. I was in an accident and needed a vehicle so went with the Honda HRV Sport. Great solid vehicle but obviously not a hybrid and it does not have much power at all. Gas mileage is not great either on the Civic platform but it handles like a dream, the AWD is wonderful AND I was able to actually GET ONE lol. Good review, Subbed and watching your other vids now.
Not a fan of the big hunk of black plastic on the front. It's like the designers just got tired and gave up trying. I prefer the non-hybrid front end and wish this one had that too, as the hybrid does in other countries.
Toyota dealerships, at least here in the USA, have helped ruin the brand. Plus, all the stupid tech-bloat in newer vehicles today have made even the best-rated brands more problematic, less reliable, & more costly to own longer-term than they were 10-20 years ago. My 2020 TNGA Toyota was the most problematic vehicle that I have owned in over 40 years & 10 different new vehicles during that time, needing towing for repair after failures/breakdowns on multiple occasions during the 2 years & 10K miles that I kept it. Between awful dealerships & my last Toyota experience, I have soured on the brand.
I bought the new 2022 platinium trim with two tone color (white & black)and have been enjoying the pleasent ride, comfort, tech & saftey features . I also enjoy the acceleration of this Suv which is more than sufficient for me. It is indeed a pleasen reliable vehicle specially in Los Angeles area with having panoramic sunroof available. The only suggestion i have is to see an increase in horsepower & torque. Looking forward to 2025 model.!
Very good review. I agree about the monitor being on the small side. Toyota has no option for a larger one. Some of the interior seems cheap. Another drawback is the rear seats not folding completely flat. The Rav4 hybrid is a much better car and has more features (as well as a spare tire) but at a much greater price. However the smaller size of the CCH allows me to maneuver better in city traffic and parking lots. The extra fuel economy is also nice.
$40,000, just went to Toyota and built one ,3K more and you can just go get a Lexus NX well-equipped. The interior is atrocious. Looks like a 2017 car.
I like the concept, but I suspect most who buy these have second thoughts about the size and cargo space. Not a lot of space up front for "stuff" and the rear seats are tight. For that price, just get a Rav. More space and quieter.
Is the 2024 different from the 2023 CC Hybrid? My wife Bought a 2023 Leftover in February and I have to say, I hate the thing. When accelerating a good clip the engine is very utilitarian, reminds me of a 70s Pinto in noise and feel. It has no Insulation under the hood. The Seats are not very comfortable and I'm not sure who designed the cockpit cause the cupholders are down right against the console/armrest so that if you have a large fountain drink the straws hit you in the wrist. The infotainment system puts out sound quality akin to 1980s radio shack speakers.. not sure what is up with that. We have places under the hood that are void of paint, showing only light grey primer. Performance is good, fuel economy is good, but the 2017 Escape we traded for this car was much more comfortable to drive on a regular basis. We also have a 2018 Equinox that just feels so much better to drive from an ergonomics standpoint. the Stereo is so much better, the infotainment interaction much smoother and the seats have more adjustability. My wife is a Hospice nurse and needs something reliable because sometimes she is on call and responding to peoples house in rural areas at 3am, in that respect I have no doubts this will be reliable and thats why we bought it, Im sure it will run for a long time, however when shes not driving it for work it just sits and we take a 6 year old vehicle with 87K miles on it because its more comfortable and has better placed cupholder and the engine doesnt sound like its ready to pass through the firewall and land in your lap under hard acceleration.
You hate it because of...the cupholders? Really? The optional JBL sound system is excellent if you care about audio. If you can't make the 10-way power heated driver's seat work for you, I don't know what to say. As a passenger, I think the seating isn't terrific. But you won't be the driver; she will be. An Equinox is a much, much larger vehicle. Take that if you drive together. A new one will be far more expensive than this XSE.
I'm looking forward to the next redesign of the Corolla Cross [whenever that happens]. Hopefully they will address the materials, making it more quiet, giving it a larger screen, things like that. By that time I MAY be looking to purchase another car.
@@ms.b9093 Yeah, Mazda does make quality interiors. But for me, when I'm forced to get another car, design will play a huge role in it. At this point, if I had to get one, it would be the new Prius. I really like the dash design. I sat in one and felt that the quality was good enough for me.
Two things to note, very small compartment only for mobile phone, neither models have ventilated seats. Everything else drives very well. Prius has much more MPG range 650 while cross 500😊
The NA market is totally monopolized by those a few big manufactures. Look at this. Everything is cheap except for the price. If you are enough for the gas price and don't want to play with the EV toys, Toyota is the only thing to get in 2024. Customers just don't have a choice.
honestly why do you need a bigger screen I find the screen being huge very gimmicky , when that screen size will matter when we get self driving cars that we will be watching tv shows on it.
@@naveenthemachine not a fact lol it depends what people value , I think focusing on the screen probably a distraction. I use to care about a screen when I got my car and now I could care less as long as it’s a decent size like 8 inches it serves its purpose. Maybe if you have poor vision a bigger screen helps but to the average person this should not matter.
@@naveenthemachineNot necessarily true actually. It’s like saying, a brand new 11th generation Honda Civic has a small screen and smaller than competition. Well, does that make Honda Civic horrible car just by what you said?
@@joecrash1232 but the civic has a 9in screen which is bigger than average in that class and the design materials and the way it drives are what make it the best
@@naveenthemachine I’m just saying as an example. The question I want to asked, based on your statement earlier, would it be a bad car if it would to have a screen smaller than 7 or 9 inches?
Have the SE trim- which is the "base" trim in Canada. Was not charged any markups. Wonderful practical vehicle with incredible fuel economy. I do wish I could have gotten the hybrid drivetrain in an LE trim- Trim to trim it is cheaper than the RAV4, but an LE RAV4 hybrid is not that much more expensive... But with the way prices are moving - The upcoming redesigned RAV4 hybrid will probably only be offered in S-ish trims and be a LOT more $$$$ than the Corolla Cross... Love this car- Exciting? No But it is everything I need and more, and I can afford it! First car I have ever owned with heated steering wheel and seats- wow!
I have a 2.0L non hybrid. I use extreme driving style to extract the best mileage. Gentle acceleration, cruising below 100km, hyper milling etc. So far after 15000KM of driving, my overall fuel economy is 5.0L/100KM which is 47 MPG.
The looks are ok for me. I actually prefer it over RAV4 and awesome power train. Fast for what it is. Also when Toyota made the Corolla Cross I was disappointed they didn't just electrify the CHR and add AWD. I think the CHR is much better looking. I'm a person that thinks all Mazdas look better than the Toyotas. So don't judge me on the CHR
Costs more to get the same features, much more back seat room, better and quieter ride, worse MPG, no free regular services for 2 years bigger to park in city spaces.
I've had mine for about 6 months and I like the size, mileage and performance. I do mostly city driving. Not crazy about the buzziness, but it is not a deal breaker, either. Yes, the interior is "meh;" I came from a fully loaded Mazda CX-5 and miss some of the amenities like the heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, heated wipers and HUD. I hope that Toyota put the money in the drivetrain and construction of a more reliable vehicle. Time will tell.
bought SE- did not want SLOW power lift gate or skinny 18s. arm rest wimpy and none in rear .44mpg all around, city errands sometimes 55+ mpg. Wish it had heated steering wheel as Canadian CCHV made in same factory. !?
I get 52 to 55 mpg with my '21 RAV4 hybrid If I stay off the freeway (retired).. Does anyone know what the corolla cross hybrid would do MPG wise in similar situations?
Why just regular compact estates aren't more popular. Are the roads so bad you need more road clearance? If this just an image thing? Does your wife told you to get a SUV, even if it's just a cross-over? With a compact estate (Golf, Corolla, Mazda 3, Civic, if they made them) you get the best compromise. Boot capacity, low loading height, good room at the back, good aero, good handling, with still a reasonable footprint), and looks good too. Must be an image thing, I must be a hopeless has-been, because I can't find anything wrong with mine.
Unfortunately not- especially compared to the LE trim... SE to SE trim- there is a big difference- But is the buyer of this type of vehicle wanting to pay for sporty trim? Not me anyway- Would much rather this vehicle in an LE trim, then it would be much less MSRP than the RAV4 and worth the compromise in terms of interior space
$4.5k more for the hybrid is pretty steep especially when the RAV4 only charges $2k more for the hybrid and it only cost $1.5k to turn the Corolla into a Hybrid.
Most Toyota hybrids have eCVT as their transmission. It’s very different compared to conventional belt-driven CVT. It’s also much more reliable and proven ever since the first generation Toyota Prius came out.
Your eyes should be on....the road. A big screen is useful if you are legally blind, but a lot of things can be done without the screen by saying, "Hey, Toyota?". Or ask Siri. She is usually helpful.
I would expect more for a top tier. Plastic all over the place no auto dim rear view. Screen yeah small. I'm keeping an open mind however it's only selling point vs a honda is the hybrid batt. I'm not sold on this on any level
Meanwhile, you can get a Model Y RWD (260 mi range) for $35,500 (after point of sale federal tax credit). It's bigger, quicker (0-60 mph), better features, and more efficient. No oil changes etc. Much better option for those that have charging at home or work available.
Doesn't work when the power goes out. Doesn't get the mileage when fully loaded, driving in cold weather or driving against a strong headwind.Also...can have a computer malfunction causing the car to speed up and be uncontrollable, and can burst into flame at any time, burning down your house or garage as well.
It's got great gas mileage and good features but it does look and feel cheap for sure. Great car for kids or a small family if you don't want all the bells and whistles. It just feels cheap and sounds loud but it's reliable.
A Toyota dealer told me that they are only given so many Corolla Cross vehicles per year...so you have to put a deposit on one a year before you get it.
