Thank you Sofyan… a bunch of reviewers saying this was a bigger Highlander but honestly this looks like a much bigger RAV4 from the outside… should’ve called it the GrandRAV4 😆
Thanks for noting that, as I AM CVT averse. What’s worse than a 6-spd. A/T? A 1-spd. tranny. He said that a PHEV is a Lexus exclusive; that’s your TX 500h? (I have a Mazda CX-70 PHEV w/8-spd. A/T & 323bhp on order.)
@@user-FTRU6GJ it is considering the size and weight of this car. The Camry V6 never got 5.5 0-60 and that was significantly lighter and smaller than this.
I have the same range issue with the regular hybrid model. Toyota does not want you to damage the Hybrid system by running out of gas. Crap -ton of space in the rear ... love it. Almost as good as Ass-load of space.
I have a gas model XLE. While it says 17 gallons to fill up. In reality it will only let you fill up to 12 gallons max. Just let you jump from gas stations to gas stations. Mention it to my dealer and they said they haven’t heard of any complaints about it.
For most folks probably, if one needs more power to tow stuff and off-road the Sequoia is better there being body on frame with the more powerful powertrain
Sadly Toyota/Lexus lost me when i kept looking at their suvs n all of the newest gen having engine, airbag and transmission failures regardless of application or version. Really wanted a newer model but something is going very wrong there that is now5-6 current gen suvs with recalls that matter
This is what Toyota has been planning all along. They have built such reliable vehicles that it rarely saw the dealership for any major issues. So they made money up front for all the sales but made a little to nothing in maintenance. So they decided to make a crappy line so that the Toyota Techs have something to do and earn. It's kind of an "F'd" way for Toyota to go this route.
more like our cars last too long so we gonna make it less reliable so that people will have to dump our "old garbage" for new ones. They definitely got that from big 3.
Sofyan, This is surely the best Grand Highlander for Nurburgring duty. For simply getting groceries, the ordinary, 35 mpg Hybrid is probably the better option. 😉
@@rightlanehog3151 so why not get a sienna if you’re going for the regular hybrid instead? You get more features than the grand Highlander and the ingress / egress is far easier and you can make it work in tight parking spots
@@naveenthemachinewhat more features are you talking about? Sienna doesn’t even have 12 inch screen. You do know that many people don’t like minivans, right?
@@blackwhirlwind1245 for example 4 way lumbar, long slide seats, and 4 zone climate control Get a sienna limited or platinum and you get a power tilt telescope wheel and ottomans. And hands free sliding doors And some of those things you can’t even get on an $82k TX550h
The 2024 Grand Highlander Hybrid Max is recalled along with every other Grand Highlander and Lexus TX. Toyota put a stop sale on them for a major safety issue with an airbag.
Good review. We own the Lexus RX500H with the same powertrain. I can definitely say the six speed auto is great! If it came with a CVT transmission, I would not have purchased it. The RX is definitely fast, with great suspension and brakes.
The GH is an amazing family hauler and I dont know how Toyota can justify selling the regular Highlander. I also struggle to go up to the TX outside of the name and dealer experience. The interior of this Platinum-spec seems more Lexus like than the actual Lexus. Sadly, these have a $3-$5K markup in our area.
I honestly think if Toyota highlander sales are substantially lower than the Grand Highlander, they might as well call the Grand Highlander the Highlander
I get confused by the MPG on my 2022 Corolla Hybrid also. The computer will say I have about 40 miles left to empty, but when I add gas, it put in about 9 gallons and the tank should hold about 11 gallons, and I regularly get 55 mile plus per gallon which means I should have at least another 100 miles left to empty.
@@MikeSchneider-wz3ol but for Toyota it’s inexcusable Other brands like ford Hyundai kia Genesis etc have had twin turbo v6 engines for a long time. Because Toyota came very late to the turbo v6 party yet they still can’t make them right. You’d think because Toyota came very late that they would get it to absolute perfection. Yet they didn’t.
They have had multiple across the line, different motors, different cars. I’m a huge Toyota lexus fan but if you research the RX, TX, GX… The Grand Highlander, Seqioa… they’ve all had different engine, airbag, transmission failures. Not sure what happened in this current gen but it’s not doing well.
The fuel issue is a long discussion topic among GH owners. You are correct that the software is overly conservative in its estimation and makes us fuel when it still has 5+ gallons. Many owners have complained about this issue but Toyota doesn’t seem to think it’s an issue.
@@kobbycrentsil2859Google is your best friend when it comes to fuel mileage estimates. I have a 2020 Corolla LE that I have had for 4 years now and I have never gone close to empty for my fuel and normally I fill with 1/4 tank left or just below that but my LE can go close to 437 miles in a tank
I think people would be better off with a minivan at a car of this size. That being said, I hope the next gen Sienna comes soon and has a plug in hybrid version.
I have this vehicle, but the limited hybrid max. I have the same issue with the gas, I am always told I have to fill up, yet I have 5 gallons left. My husband says Toyota did it to protect the hybrid system, it’s still annoying. I do get around 30-31 miles to the gallon on the high way and 27 in town. My biggest issue is when hitting the gas the car down shifts hard which causes a jerk when trying to go. It doesn’t happen all the time but every once in a while. But compared to what I had before, this vehicle is hands down an amazing vehicle.
I’ve considered it. However, the seats are harder than the new Atlas. Shoulder room doesn’t feel as roomy as the Atlas. HybridMax is definitely faster for sure. But, many dealers around me also are offering $10-$20k over MSRP for HybridMax models
Toyota probably is conservative with the fuel range to preserve the fuel pump. Fuel does more than burn in the combustion chamber, it also cools the fuel pump. Ultimately, running the fuel low will reduce its service life.
You can set the walk away lock function on Toyotas. You just need to do it using tech stream (at the dealer), Carly, or Carista instead of through the UI menus.
The Subaru Outback has an 18.5 gallon gas tank and gets up to 600 miles of range with the naturally aspirated flat 4. Something is surely off with this G. Highlander.
It's not a major recall. It's toyota being nervous because of the past issues with takata airbags. It's literally one airbag on the passenger side if you leave the window open and roll over that it "might" not deploy. I saw a new tx350 about a month ago rolled over and the curtain airbags all worked and windows were open. I have pics too
@@patrickrk44 Toyota shut down the factory right in the middle of a brand new product launch. This and other problems are major NHTSA violations and need correcting before being sold.
Good luck finding one to buy anywhere. It appears short on supply at the moment. So it’s a bit of a sellers market. An 8 to 10 month wait when we inquired, most people will likely shop elsewhere until supply improves. .. If you need the space.
It would be great if they put this infotainment and powertrain in a Sienna since the Sienna is so far ahead of this on cargo space with all seats in use.
Man, I love watching all of your videos, but I can't believe you don't mention that there is currently a stop sale on these due to a safety issue (especially when pitching it as "family-friendly"). I will tell myself that this was recorded prior and the video just got out late. Toyota needs to get back to what made it the brand everyone loved, reliability and affordability. Given all of the issues with the Grand Highlander, Tacoma, and Tundras, it appears they have lost their way.
Where is the Middle Seat of 2nd Row????? How much money or weight saving did Toyota make by avoiding 1 seat???????😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ...... Not worth the money you spend.......there are other 8 seaters that are better🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
The range on my 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is the same. After fueling my estimated range is about 390 miles but comparing to my trip odometer my range is truly about 300 because I’m about near empty.
A shame they don't let you get a three place second row with the Hybrid Max (especially with a removable middle seat). A two seat second row just doesn't work for our family.
I’m in Canada. Similar issue with the gas tank. Gas light comes on with 30km to empty and when that goes to 0km it changes to REFUEL. The car can drive another 80km with REFUEL on. Just with gas light on it can do 100km. I took my GH to Toyota and they connected the computer and it shows how much gas it had when it was empty I figured out the reserve is very conservative. Annoying but you also do not want to run out of gas with a hybrid motor. Hopefully toyota can provide an update so the light doesn’t come on too early.
@@alvinsimba734 I’m not destroying anything. I took the car to Toyota and they connected their computer to the car the vehicle had low fuel and read that the car still had 7L of fuel in it.
A problem with Toyota that I’ve noticed when I first got one of these if gets 17 miles to the gallon but we only got 12 ? I don’t know but I know Toyota is trying to fix thus
Do you know if they really stopped production and the sale of this vehicle? Also what to expect for the 2025 model year? I ordered one (Platinum Hybrid Max) in Canada in June 2023 and I’m still waiting for it. Should I just wait for the 2025 model year? I just don’t see the value of getting a new car and in a couple of months , it would be “last year’s model”
I'm still scratching my head as to why Toyota went this route with the powertrain. They chose to take the legendary 2GR out and replace it with a 2.5 4 banger turbo. Toyota could have done a 3.5 2GR with a supercharger, then mate that with an electric motor. Heck, the 3.5 V6 Toyota's in AU had a mild supercharger already. They should have built upon that. Oh wait...that would have been too reliable for Toyota...nvm.
Can’t wait for people to do a rear wiper delete on this lol. I didn’t realize how dinky it looked until the end segment of the video the cars huge and the wipers tiny!😂
The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires that come with this vehicle are absolutely trash. Dealing with a second flat already in one month. They are so delicate. The slightest little thing can cut right through them. Toyota must update these tires. Two more rigid ones. (GRAND HIGHLANDER)
@@jonathanratliff4780 that’s a simpler fix. It’s because of the seat controls. Also toyota recalled the lx600 for the twin turbo v6 and that vehicle is made in Japan
At $60K, they could have used struts, rather than a rod. IMO Also, I don't like the color combination of the interior. Doesn't go well together. Again, IMO
