👋 *hey there, enjoy this content? consider becoming a channel member:* ru-vid.com/show-UCHdoOrwo__5kf2qXwdyVdwwjoin *My overall recommendation* would be to choose both an "S Tier" browser for your general, non-personal internet browsing (reading the news, posts, anything you don't log in for basically), and an "A Tier" or possibly "B Tier" browser for less frequent, more personal browsing (like banking, social media, etc.). This is because Mullvad/Tor Browser don't save cookies, browsing history, or other site data which makes them a bit inconvenient for sites you regularly log in to. Splitting your browsing habits across two browsers gives you the best of both worlds!

It says ultimate browser list but it seems that the only thing in consideration here is privacy and transparency and yes that’s super important, but having features and speed is also important and that was completely overlooked here. This video should be called “the ultimate private browser list” And just to clarify I don’t know this channel I was just looking for videos about browser comparisons.

I use Librewolf on Linux with Ungoogled Chromium as a backup, Mull on Android, and Vanadium as my Android WebView. I totally understand your Librewolf criticism, but since I use a package manager, automatic in-browser updates don't really matter to me. An important point not mentioned in the video is that the benefit of Mullvad only works if users all have the same basic settings determined by the company. If a user deviates with customizations, it makes them more "visible" and renders the whole point behind using the browser useless. Plus it's a for-profit company that clearly wants users to pay €5/month for their VPN service to complete the whole package. Librewolf lets you customize to your heart's content while retaining all the benefits, and only really lags behind on security for 1-3 days. Even if you use it in a place where this is a bad idea, all that means is switching over to hardened Firefox until Librewolf catches up. So yeah, I'd knock Mullvad down to B tier and raise Librewolf up to A just based on the customization issue. Having to use the exact same default settings as other users of a browser is just too restrictive.

The easter egg in the Thorium browswer was a lot more amusing to me than concerning (as easter eggs like that should be). What concerns me about it, was something that also was shown in the XZ utils chain of events. If that easter egg was a problem to the community, and the community was analyzing source code, as they claim happens; they would have raised the issue within hours of it going up. If it were simply an attack on the developer, without any true interest in the easter egg; these community checks could possibly still be occurring. However, the XZ utils backdoor was only found by the eyes a very specialized professional developer -- indicating, a second time, that there are no community eyes on these projects.

Recently switched from Chrome to Pale moon, I love the Skeuomorphic design of it and speed isn’t that much of an issue, it’s not that slow + i would sacrifice one second for a better GUI and more customizations. I still use chrome sometimes, I still haven’t logged in any accounts of mine in pale moon but once im more familiar and comfortable with it i will. oh also safari isn’t that bad. sure it tracks it’s user (pretty much like most browsers) but using safari is probably the best option if you are on iOS. Better to get tracked by one company than two imo..

Can we get a tier list for people who don’t care about privacy over the internet? I know you were upfront about it but most privacy isn’t the only feature people care about, e.g. I like OperaGX because it’s makes it easy to limit the RAM/CPU usage of the browser. I was hoping this video would be more about those sorts of features and not 100% about privacy since I feel like the browser breakdown regarding that is 1. TOR if you know you definitely need guaranteed privacy 2. Anything else. But idk maybe I’m just a normie
@MarcHershey
@MarcHershey 2 месяца назад
This "2024 Ultimate Browser Tier List" is pretty subjective, and frankly, missing some key criteria. Functionality seems entirely absent from your rankings. How is Firefox (Hardened) above Firefox when it breaks 20% of the sites it visits? You also put Tor browser on A tier? Come on.. functionality/usability is a huge part of the "tier" of a browser. What about extensions, secondary features, GUI, UI, ecosystem / multi-device integration, ease of use, etc? On top of all that, there are no sources to support claims about things like telemetry data or security. Accusations like 'low security practices' deserve citations. The title should really be "My opinion of the most secure / private browsers in 2024"

Exactly what I was thinking, even though this video is made with good faith, good faith doesn't mean its a good tier list. I wish this included more things that are important to the average user, not just those who are trying to get the most privacy possible.

Do I need to download anything or something different apart form a say a VPN to make my use of Firefox more private? Hello! I would definitely stay away from Google if privacy is a concern for you. I hadn't heard of Perplexity AI before, it seems interesting but as you probably know, many people are mistrustful towards AI. I mainly use Brave's search engine Brave Search, but I use DuckDuckGo for finding images. If you want a traditional search engine, those two would be my recommendations! As for making Firefox more private (or 'hardening' it), I know there are steps you can take to make it more private, but I just use LibreWolf since it's essentially hardened Firefox out of the gate with less effort, so I can't help you with that unfortunately. Best of luck on your browsing adventures, friend!

So As soon as you released the vide, Pale Moon 33.0.0 released. Pale Moon now has Do Not Track requests, as well as canvas data poisoning, which prevents canvas fingerprinting. Now for security, yeah sure it is weaker than most, but since it's more obscure, less people will attack it. Addons are still an issue, because Pale Moon will never support WebExtensions, but since you can use old firefox extensions, it may still end up a bit useful Performance is probably the best thing it has going for it, because it will run great even on low end computers, and it will also not eat up your RAM and CPU.

As a Librewolf user, I can't really agree with the criticism you levied against it, or the poor rating. The installer does offer an updater and it can be set to run whenever a user boots. Autoupdates are important, sure, but much more in critical work environments than for single users; all it takes is a bit of self discipline to check for updates once every few days, not the end of the world. While hardened Firefox does offer similar security benefits, it requires extra steps to modify vanilla Firefox that an end user may be unable or simply unwilling to do; Librewolf comes hardned out of the box. Lastly, Librewolf is current in regards to codebase. I used to use Watefox but migrated after its debacle. As you yourself mentioned, WF being based on ESR codebases is a massive demerit, despite its long track record.

Brave (on Linux) blocks so much tracking that I can’t use it to connect to some of my financial institutions. It also has built in TOR connectivity so I would definitely rank it higher than Firefox, though I don’t know if the Windows or Mac versions do the same things. The IOS version does not connect to TOR.

Dumb question. Is there a risk to using Opera GX if you only use your PC for gaming? All purchaches are made via steam cards on steam.
@HunterMael
@HunterMael Месяц назад
I would say unlikely. The privacy trade-offs up to that point are already higher (unless you play offline games exclusively). That being said, as a gamer myself, Opera isn't as good as it seems. My personal recommendation is to pick one of 2 routes, more security/privacy or more convenience. Use one of the S-B tier browsers for your gaming browser, OR take the convenience that comes from edge and co-pilot (this is what I did) that way I can hit the windows key during games and instantly search or instantly use co-pilot to ask a question about the game! Hope this helps.

I had to use Edge the other day and after just 5 minutes I felt like I was transported back 20 years ago when I didn't know much about PCs and often ended up clicking everything on the internet using a crappy browser, leading to constant shady pop-ups. That's what the default Edge experience is like. Absolutely disgusting!

@GERRaze

If you make a ranking based on "default settings" you shouldn't put browsers with inbuilt VPN lower than other inbuilt VPN browsers, cos VPN is *always* disabled by default. Also you always get asked, if you'd like to share your data with a company! On top of that Tor Browser with default settings is exactly as insecure as any other browser. *Basically there are only 3 ranks if you use ublock + own browser settings (disable analytics) in every single one of them.* S Tier for Edge + Safari, cos they are the only ones that give exactly the same as everyone else, but are the only ones that give you high quality on Netflix + Amazon... A Tier all chromium and webkit based browsers. B Tier for all gecko based browsers, cos everything that webkit and chromium have, but always at least ~0.2-0.5 seconds slower in everything (high-end CPU) and even slower on old PCs.

I use Microsoft Edge because Firefox based browsers are really choppy dragging tabs around, and because it's the only browser I've found that has an option to make the UI bigger in the form of Touch Mode (Only available in Canary and Dev builds for some reason). I never expected to like Microsoft Edge, but after heavy customization, it's become my daily driver. Except for privacy. My browser history has been Chrome to Opera GX to Opera to Vivaldi to Floorp to Microsoft Edge.
