I don’t usually do breaking news videos based on rumors, but here we go! Feel like one of those UFC journalists 😂

Well, if you see the last Japan tournament it already was allowed to grab the legs. You can check it out by yourself, so I think it will be next years new rules.

This strikes me as the 2010 rule set (minus the hansoku make). Grabbing the leg as a counter. Combinations and as a way to finish the throw, and like how Takato used to finish his kata guruma before 2013.
@Yupppi
@Yupppi День назад
I hope it's legit. I think it's exactly the type of things you want to see and that bring more to judo without taking away. Cool throws/techniques that sort of enhance existing techniques and no shidos for inconsequential things. The best compromise in my opinion.

I dont understand english very well and the automatic subtitles dont help so much, so, in you interpretation the leg grabs are coming again only if is a combination or if you get a grip on upper the belt you can grab legs completly free???

The technique you're referring to at 2:02 is kibisu gaeshi, in wrestling referred to as an ankle pick.

Kichiki taoishi Kibisu gaeshi is when you go backwards. Taoishi is forwards.

When Judo is getting boring day by day , they will bring the old school rules back . Too much change after 2010 . And some of them killing this sport . Put yourself as someone never practiced Judo , you will find the answer. I still love it but I am missing the Judo before 2000 .

It is a biiiiig change, we have quite a few generations of judokas with absolutely zero knowledge of leg grabs, they dont even know how it feels like.

Although I am generally in favour, the IJF just love making it difficult for everyone, don't they?(if true) Why only as counter and continuation techniques? What difference does it make? This is just going to lead to countless contentious decisions...
@kwanarchive
@kwanarchive 12 часов назад
The difference it makes is it stops people from spamming non-viable leg grabs to avoid passivity, especially during the final stages of the match.

I hope leg grabs come back in 2025, but i won't believe it until they make it official.

Leg grabbing should be allowed to some extent, but what is killing judo is the hansoku-make by acummulation of shidos. The rule that states that a judoka should be declared a winner when their opponent gets 3 shidos, even if the declared winner hasn't achieved any offensive score, should not exist! The judoka must be punished somehow for fighting poorly, but no one should be declared a winner just because the opponent was playing poor! What happens now is a competition of who makes the opponent fight poorer. You don't need to throw, you don't need to anything, you just need to "show some offensivity" and prevent your opponent of "showing offensivity" instead of having to fight some real judo. Which leads to bizarre situations where a judoka might lead by waza-ari but lose because of 3 shidos while the opponent has zero points and 2 shidos and wins!! Like the dude who has a waza-ari loses and the other has nothing but wins!! WTF!! Oh, so what's the point of shidos then? The point is that shidos should subtract points but never determine the winner. The winner should only be declared when they have at least a waza-ari or a yuko or a koka in their favor. And, of course, for that they should revert to the old yuko-koka points. This way, 1 shido subtracts 1 koka, 2 shidos subtract 1 yuko, 3 shidos subtract 1 waza-ari and 4 shidos mean that the only way you can still win is by ippon, but it doesn't mean that the opponent gets the win, the opponent also needs to score at least a damn point when the time runs out to win. Bottom line, shidos should make the victory harder for you, but not easier for your opponent. That's how things should be.

A traditional Kata-guruma grabbing lapel and one leg will be allowed or not?
@stin18x
@stin18x День назад
So it looks like Te Guruma and Kata Garuma with Leg Grab as Straight Up attacks won't be allowed. Instead for Kata Garuma you can only touch the legs to finish and Te Guruma can only counter.

I find it ridiculous to receive a shido just for briefly touching below the belt. It's even worse when it's accidental and lasts only for a second, but still results in your third shido and a hansokumake. I would be really happy if they brought back leg grabs. I think the best rule is the one you mentioned, where at least one hand must stay on the gi.

sounds like they are going for some idiotic complicated rule that defines multiple situations which will again lead to dumb edge case shidos instead of just going with something fairly simple and clear like one hand gripping above the belt, second hand can go below....

I am in favor of leg grabs but with nuance to prevent IDIOTS from spamming one handed leg grabs from a defensive crouched stance to avoid gripping up because they suck at lapel and sleeve grip judo. This is just as bad as spamming useless drop seios. For those of you who just want to be allowed to dive at legs without restrictions, go do wrestling. I want high amplitude quality te guruma/sukui nage, kuchiki daioshi, kata guruma etc.
@MatthewNguyen-zx3de
@MatthewNguyen-zx3de 17 часов назад
Yes, we have to remember part of why they were banned- for the same reason that drop and flop happens. Leg grabs are just an easier means of it if it goes unpoliced.
