Ayesha Sherzai has a You Tube recipe that she does with her daughter for a Persian style/middle eastern type soup that is soooo good and quick to make:"Beans and Noodle Soup - Mind Kind Kitchen". The lavours are so interesting and unusual/more exoctic than typical fare and very comforting at the same time. You may want to give it a try. You guys always make me want to get to my cookbooks and experiment. I hate that life seems to get so busy that we go for tried and true-make over and over again so theses cookbook reviews are very helpful motivation wise!

Update: My kids did NOT like the soup, however, my husband and I couldn't get enough of it, so we ate it for dinner, late night snack, lunch the next day and also the day after that since I made a LOT. My kids are mostly plantbased and they eat just about everything, so I would say this soup is maybe not so kid friendly, but I totally recommend it. And I am suddenly very interested in having Annie try this soup, Jeremy. :p Please!

@@grnnmatportal615 Thanks for the updates on the soup experience-I wasn't sure if anyone would care lol. I'm smiling the whole time I read it-very relatable. I've also seen a similar version on "Pick up Limes" but haven't tried it yet. My kids don't like it if I add too much mint or lemon-then I get comments, but mostly they like it. I should say they're young adults so may be different ages than yours. I grew up in Mtl in a multi cultural area. I've always loved middle eastern type flavours amoungst others, and when we lived in Ottawa many years ago and they were still quite young, we would often pick up lebanese food-the flavours of mint and lemon are similar. I love to cook different types of cuisines, especially curries, so they're somewhat used to those flavour profiles. Funny thing is when meeting my son's fiancee for the first time (she's from another country and they came in very late from Toronto (we're in Kingston) ,I made this soup as a last minute thing thinking it looks "exotic"hahaha. Even though she said she liked it-eating the noodles was awkward for her in a setting where you aren't 100% comfortable, are trying to eat "properly" and not slop turmeric noodles all over your face or clothes-lol. It's a spoon /fork dilema type soup:) I do love how fast it is for how it tastes. Take care!

I've probably read the beginning of the book at least 3Xs, I agree, the book is worth it just for that alone (considering I have yet to use any of the recipes)! Bummer about the mini quiche, they look so good in the picture, it's a bummer when that happens! Darn, the muffins looked so good🥴I love how you and Woolie kept talking about what could make it better, so funny, that is exactly what I do!! The berry cake will be a definite make once I'm done with weight loss phase😊 Thanks for testing the recipes, it's such a help when figuring out what to spend my time on cooking, I get so disappointed when I spend hours on a recipe just to find out it's an "F"!

Loved this cookbook review! This book is in my home library, but I haven't cooked from it yet. The superfood pasta salad looks delicious! I was disappointed in the mini quiches not coming out good because they looked and sounded really good when you started cooking them. Oh, well! I am going to make the totally possible burgers tonight because I have lentils and beets I need to use up. I am not a liquid smoke flavor fan, so I will omit it. It kind of freaked me out a little how much they looked like ground beef before you cooked them, lol. The quesadilla looks yum, too. I would like to try some quinoa or red lentil tortillas ala Broccoli Mum style because I am GF too. I use Ezikiel brown rice tortillas which are delicious with hummus and greens. You have to microwave them for 30 seconds, or they will not bend. I would try those for this recipe. The sweet potato pancakes look very comforting, but I am not a fan of sweet potatoes in recipes, although I like them by themselves. That's just me. Muffins are one of my favorite foods, so, yes, I will try that one and add more cinnamon or other warming spices. I eat my breakfast muffins drizzled with a little almond butter and/or fruit jam. The cashew/fruit cake looks like a really nice substitute for a cheesecake. It’s a very pretty dessert. It would probably be good with some chocolate sauce on top. However, this is very nut heavy, so I probably would not make it for 2 reasons. This amount of nuts have too much saturated, total fat and calories. 2 bites would be enough for me because too many nuts sometimes causes facial cold sores for me due to the high arginine and low lysine content in nuts. Just something I live with, unfortunately. I really enjoy all your cookbook review videos, Jeremy, Woolie, Ephraim and Annie. The kids are changing right before our eyes and getting so grown up. Ephraim is so handsome and Annie is so pretty! Thanks for all you do! 🤩
@pbwithjeremy

Thank you Vi! They ARE growing up so fast. It's crazy. I know what you mean about the excessive nuts in a lot of these recipes with desserts. It can be a LOT. Did you try making the burgers?

@@pbwithjeremy Hi! I like these burgers and had to find them in your video because I forgot where the recipe came from, lol. Yes, I made the burgers that night. They were ok fresh out of the oven, but were better, tastier, delicious the day after and even after defrosting and reheating the extras I froze. Yesterday I had one on toasted sourdough bread with sautéed mushrooms and ketchup and I had homemade cole slaw on the side. Today, I had a cold one from the fridge because they are good cold too. I am very happy with them and this will be a go to recipe for burgers for me because they have a very savory, umami flavor. Thanks again for this video!

Thank you for an excellent review of what sounds like an important book. I make muffins frequently and I have an excellent apple, banana, date recipe that is delicious. If you take the recipe in this cookbook , but double the banana, add a sweet apple instead of a Granny Smith, then add 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, 1/2 teaspoon of apple pie spice, 1/3 cup maple syrup and cut up pieces of medjule dates, also omit the oil, this recipe would be outstanding.

This is a pretty good cookbook...multiple hits, but several misses too (some of the recipes are just kind of blah). Totally agree with you about the frustration with recipes missing some steps in the directions. We do love the Totally Possible Burger, but swap out the liquid smoke for smoked paprika. In the Brain Docs RU-vid video showing how to make the burgers she also adds a small onion (not included in cookbook ingredient list). After making these many times I prefer to keep the beans a bit chunky so the burger is not mushy. We also like ✔️Golden Waffles ✔️Memory Boosting Granola ✔️Mighty Smoothie Bowl ✔️Sushi Tempeh Bowl(sans beets because it's just a weird flavor combo) ✔️Omega Muffins Thanks PB with J and fam for another great video!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Hi Jeremy. I was so sad about this cookbook ;( because I was planning on gifting it to my omnivore mother who's mom died from Alzheimer. I will definitely try the sweet potato oat pancakes and also cook it into my waffle-maker because I love pancakes and waffles! For the cheesecake, I would also add an oat-date crust and some lemon zest into the berry layer, and maybe grated fresh ginger. I would like to see the list of recipes so I could really see if it is what I am looking for my mother. It is not available on Amazon... I figure if it comes from doctors in the subject, my mother would be open to trying it. Oh yes, she speaks mostly French too... Do you think she would enjoy the other recipes ? Thanks for those reviews. And I eagerly await the review on Chef AJ's dessert cookbook "Sweet Indulgence", coming out on August 27th (for us mere mortals because I know you have an advanced copy ;). She really wants to be a NYT best seller so everyone, go buy her book ! It looks awesome and, it is chef AJ after all !!! Thanks again Jeremy !!!

Regarding the crustless mini quiche recipe per the books instructions it does say to bake for about 25 minutes or until set and golden brown. Therefore, you needed to bake them longer till they were set and golden brown. I think no one in your family enjoyed it because you undercooked them.

Thank you for the review. I haven't watched to the very end of the video yet, but I get the vibe that it's a lot like Dr. Greger's cookbooks. TOO many ingredients and too much work that takes way too long all for a result that doesn't deliver a tasty meal. And that always aggravates me to no end because then I end up wasting a lot of time, energy and food.
