There is also this old game Aces High which is my favorite game of all time. Nowadays it has a small community but once you get into the game its an absolute blast. Taking basis and doing missions with your team. Its more like a real MMO with planes.

In DCS the coolest stuff is cold airplane start up. Especially when you are starting engines in F18. The sound is awesome!!! Like a real stuff. And not to mention landings on Aircraft Carrier

@@ivomajic my favorite part of the game Falcon 4 with the BMS mod is that the tutorial PDF spends 1/3 of it's time detailing the cold start procedures for the F/16, down to purely flavor based testing stages.

Why Cliffs of Dover? Everybody hates it in the reviews.

​@@JAnx01 This is because of the bugs upon release in 2011... but since 2017 and the release of the "Blitz" edition, Cliffs of Dover is simply the best survey-type combat flight simulator. And DCS is the best study-type simulator.

​@@JAnx01 When it comes to talk about pure simulation (physics, flight models, ballistics, damage models), the Dover series is with no shadow of a doubt superior to the Great Battles series. In the Great Battles series aircraft do not behave correctly when taxiing, in the Great Battles series German obuses do not explode after they've been shot, in the Great Battles series flight models do not stick as much to historical fact as they do in the Dover series, in the Great Battles series the damage models (not necessarily those that are visible, I'm not talking about the DVD for example) are completely humiliated by the amazingly complete and realistic damage models in the Dover series, in the Great Battles series start-up engine procedures are not as close to be fully modelled as close they are in the Dover series, in the Dover series the cockpits and the Channel map are absolutely superior in terms of quality graphics, etc., etc., etc. (the list is very long). But... in the Great Battles series you have VR compatibility (VR is in the works in the Dover series but it is not compatible at the moment, not yet), and also you'll find more available modules in the Great Battles series (4 modules in WWII, 1 module in WWI, 1 tank module... but in the Dover series you have only two available modules : the Blitz edition in the Channel map for the battle of France, the battle of Dunkirk and the battle of Britain, and "Desert Wings - Tobruk" in the Tobruk map for the battles during the Desert War in North Africa). Thus, Janx01, it is ok if you prefer the Great Battles series. Some players say they can't go back to a 2D screen because now they need a VR-compatible game... personally I don't agree with that, I prefer a more serious simulation even if I'm using a TrackIR.

Good news: Microprose is coming back! Also, try downloading Falcon 4.0 with the BMS mod for a good alternative to DCS with campaigns and active multiplayer servers. It's all about the BMS mod though, don't try to play falcon 4.0 by itself because it will ask for a CD.

@@flyinggoat2581 is that some sort of remastered or totally new game? I really hope Microprose would get back to developing flight combat sims. Gunship series today, I want to fly AH-64E, AH-1Z, blackhawk/seahawk, little bird, Mi-28/35/26, KA-50/52, WZ-9/10/19/18/20, HAC Tiger, SA80, etc being able to choose different factions. Also all aircrafts in 1 game with DLC where I can fly present fighters F-15E, F-16V, F/A-18E/F, EF-18G, F-22, F-35, Mig-35, Su-27SM3, Su-30M2, Su-35, Su-34, J-11B, J-10C, J-20B/C, J-16, J-15B, B-52G/H, B-1B, B-2 in fictional realistic war.

@@jayjay53313 It's a total conversion mod of Falcon 4.0 It has a dynamic multiplayer campaign with a lot of modern aircraft, but not as many as you just listed. Look up Falcon BMS on youtube and find out if you're interested. I'm not sure I understood your first comment. Are you flying DCS with a mouse? You won't be able to fly or control your camera very well in any simulation without a joystick, and a head-tracker. I just bought both of those things, so I can show you some good options if you are interested.

@@flyinggoat2581 noted on the falcon 4.0 mod. Thought you meant Microprose returning active on developing new games. For DCS, I'm flying with Logitech Wingman flight stick, keyboard + mouse. The game is not user friendly

@@jayjay53313 Regarding Microprose, yes they announced this year that they are returning. They are supposedly working on a sequel to B-17. www.wargamer.com/articles/microprose-simulation-games/ DCS is a lot. What aircraft are you using? Some have embedded training missions, like the F-18. Otherwise your best resource is youtube for guides. I have the same joystick as you, but I just ordered a new one from VKB so I could have more functions on the stick and a better button layout. I"ll probably get a throttle as well once prices drop down. VKB said they had one in development, so I might wait for that.

Spent many many hours on CFS 2 Pacific Theater. It has one thing all the IL2 sims lacked...atmosphere. USAF is great too, as is IAF.
