I love how you talk through every step and explain all! The global Wordpress-Community is LITERALLY a learing community. So it would be great if you can come up with a new vid - one that covers the version 6.1 So plz help in educating the world.🙏🙏😊👍🏻😳♥
This is the breath of fresh air I needed this evening in trying to optimize and secure a site I'm working on. So you know, your videos are highly recommended in a consulting network group I belong to. Many Thank you's!
Yes, great content. Thank you specifically for the insight you provide along with your recommendations. You offer solid context for the plugins’ functions as well as helpful things to consider with each.
Hey Adam. I know this is an old video and you probably already know this, but, just in case you or your readers don't, the Wordfence Live Traffic can now be disabled and there is a setting to use Low Resources. Just an FYI. PS: Love your tutorials and I share them with my students often.
Dear Adam! I would like to say a big THANK YOU and give you a feedback, because your videos are so professional! Everything is nicely explained so the beginners are able to understand the basic and useful stuff if they have one or even more WordPress websites. I appreciate it a lot! On the other side, I think we all know that if you run into an issue, for each of them there are several solutions on the internet which may work or may not (at my case mostly not..), but when I found your RU-vid channel, literally every issue I had, I could solve in less than 5 minutes without having small heart attacks about messing up my site even more than before... Lastly, which makes you even more different from other channels that offers tips and advices about WordPress websites, is that you usually offer free plugins which is indeed very cool. Thank you again and keep up the good job! 😊
Hi, great content! Thanks for the info for us 'non tec' humans, awesome :) One quick question; you have a video on Jetpack as well (how I found you) do I need these top 4 PLUS the use of Jetpack or is that overkill? Looking forward to the video on Cache. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Hi Adam, thanks for the overview! I independently chose iThemes, Updraft and Autoptimize, totally agree 1+ Plugins. For caching I like Fastest Cache best. No problems, easy to use, very fast. If iThemes is used with WP Compress, better turn off the "Banned User" option.
Autoptimize is not a caching plugin and you can use it next to WP Super Cache without any problem. Autoptimize improves the code of your page and make it more efficient so it loads faster. WP Super Cache creates the html for the website visitor from the php files so yours site loads faster.
You're welcome Michael! The two plug-ins I talked about in this video are rocksolid choices and they also happen to be free. But even though they are free, they are better than paid options.
Love and use the majority of the mentioned plugins. I don't use Updraft (use ManageWP for that) but might have to take a look at that option. As well as Autoptimize thanks for the info!
Yes if ManageWP makes reliable backups for you, that's awesome! I have used other WordPress control panels and have tried their backup option, but I've always found them to be problematic when restoring a website. So even though I also use a control panel to manage all of my websites, I still use updrafts because it's been the most reliable when it comes to restoring from a backup.
Thanks for the great tutorial! I guess with the caching plug in they are trying to go for "Auto Optimize" but dropping the one "o" . Difficult to pronounce "Autoptimize"
Thought I had commented that one, but didn't find my comment, so let's go: - Security: I use iThemes Security Pro (because I once had a deal for a lifetime access to it)... As opposed to you, I do use many of the pro features, but only because they were available... Wouldn't pay a yearly fee for those... On some sites I have WordFence as well, but not installing anymore... Like you said, too heavy... - Backup: If I would use a free one, I'd probably go with Updraft as well (tested many as well)... But my tool of choice is BackupBuddy (again, I had the chance to have an unlimited lifetime account). The main reason is that it allows me to backup just parts of my site (like just plugins, just medias, etc) AND it allows me to restore just certain files or folders...! Ex: I install a new plugin that crashes my site: I don't have to restore my entire site: I just delete the plugin's folder and restore the older version of the folder, which reinstalls my plugin... Done in probably less than a minute or two! - SEO: I have use All-in-one for a while, but since most people were recommending Yoast, I switched to it... Now, I know that some features were moved to the paid version (which is not cheap) and it has been some issues lately (not the first time) so even yourself is thinking of moving away from it... I'm testing SEOPress Pro right now... A lot more features for $39/yearly unlimited sites... Seems great and has features not found anywhere else... Just not sure it plays nice with WPML... - Caching: I have used many in the first days... then sticked more to W3 Total Cache and Autoptimize together (that one used for the minification part)... I switched some sites back to Super Cache... But the one that I use the most is a paid one: Viper Cache. - When I used a statistics plugin, I was using Monster Insights (strange that it was taken over by another company, as they took it from Yoast few years ago...). I use a lot of other plugins as well... Like WP Blazer for sites management (and still have much clients sites on MainWP). I ofter start my sites with WP Freshstart (now on v.5 that had many improvements in v.4 carried over... but I don't use many of their new options, as I use other plugins and it seems to create many conflicts as well...). WPML for translation, Toolset for filtering and custom types...
You’re tutorials have saved my sanity. Thank you for so much information..I am a supernoobie, and after days of watching your tuts, i have not come across a video for an Elementor “Element” to set up to have my posts show-up on Home. I would like to have 3 across, maybe 2 rows...please direct me to the function, I hope you have a Video! TY.....I see there is one in Pro, I am using GeneratePress with Elementor at your suggestion. An add-on perhaps?
Thanks for the recommendations. I didn't know Wordfence live slowed the site down. They still have it and I don't use it but they still have it by default.
Adam, if the LiveVideo is turned off in Wordfence, which would you then prefer and recommend: Wordfence or Autoptimize? Thanks for the video and these recommendations. Very helpful.
Wordfence & Autoptimize are worlds apart - Wordfence is great if you configure it and have the right server resources. Autoptimize is a great plugin for optimizing your website.
Hi Adam, did you end up doing the video on Autoptimize? I couldn't see one with that in the title. I used to pronounce it auto optimise but now you have messed with my head and I can't say it right lol. Addicted to your channel man, awesome stuff! I make sure to buy anything through your link now.
I tried them and autoptimize is definitely a great option for free if doing a single site, but WPRocket can't be beat and is worth the price if designing sites for a living. Both great plugins, thanks Adam! Your channel is pretty much my bible ha.
Autoptimize is sometimes a pain especially with other plugins, however it is a really good for conatenation, but the plugin is not sufficient enough, you need a matching cache plugin to work with it, thus most often WPRocket has all of what we need
Thank you Adam that was good. I have read a lot about hosting and from you also you are a A1 and I am moving on to get inmotion hosting and will send my receipt to you.
Thanks for the great video. An in-depth video on SEO and Cache will be great as there is a lot to figure out and get to grips with so the more help the better. :)
Right on! This is exactly the video I prompted you to do when you showed us the plugins you use in your website :) Well, some of my MUSTS as a non-techy are: Child Theme Configurator (you know this one huh), Duplicator (if I need to make a one-time backup for whatever reason in one specific moment), Envato Wordpress Toolkit (my god, I found this yesterday and it is going to save me lots of time and it will help future clients not to screw up the website when updating their Themeforest themes. Bye bye tinkering Filezilla), Really Simple SSL. Besides all the hate towards sliders I like Revolution Slider. And The Grid is cool too.
By the way, I wanted to ask you for a while how important it is for SEO to have a plugin like Google XML Sitemaps (or if Yoast SEO does that already). Thank you for your time.
Since I use Yoast on all of my websites, I use the site map feature that it has, and I try to put a link in my footer to that site map to make it easy for search engines that are trying to index my website.
Thanks I'm new and I'm setting up my WordPress app with plugins and different things I'll need to make my experience more fun and to get an understanding of how it all works so that I can start drop shipping comfortably. Don't know if this is the right way but it's the way I'm headed at the moment so thanks again my friend.
As part of Jetpack Pro there is VaultPress...how does that compare with iThemes Security? Also, if I have jetpack installed do you think I really need another SEO plugin like Yoast? If so, why? Thanks in advance!! (Your videos are always so informative, they are my first go-to for WP questions.)
Hi Adam, 2 themes that I purchased this week came with Jetpack.. Should I delete or activate it? Do you have a video talking about Jetpack plugin? Thank you.
Thumb Up! I would suggest you another useful plugin to review - Head and Footer Scripts Inserter. Made by Armenian, so I found it doesn't work for Turkey. But for the rest of the world it is good, fast and simple.
@Adam I think revisiting these recommendations for 2019 would be cool. And, wondering about using Autoptimize in conjunction with a caching plugin, too.
What do you think of WP Fastest Cache? It's mentioned as the best free solution for caching in most articles. I think it's easy to setup and gives you a lot of customization opportunities with exclusion and timeout rules.
Great training as usual! I looked for the video that shows how to install and setup the Autoptimize plugin, but could not find it. Could you direct me to it? Thanks in advance.
Hi Adam.. I would love for you to create a video on WPMU for new web design company and how it can be setup for clients including domain mapping and what theme and page builder can be used to easily create themes which clients can choose from that are simple, elegant and attractive. Also which plugins would be advised in this setup for ease of managing this solution. PLEASE create this video.. happy to pay you to create it with your valuable advice !! :)
QUESTION: what do you think about having Advanced Automatic Updates + WP Time Capsule. so everything updates automatically but, in case of emergency, is easily reverted woth WPTC ?
I am a big fan of automation. And so having the updates be done automatically I think is a good move, however some plug-ins can have problems on updates, it's more problem with the developer than anything. So you do have to be a little cautious.
hello sir, first of all, thank you for providing a very important video and sir can you tell me how I can set an image on the page and how I write over there my content?
Hi Adam, I follow all of your video's. They are great. What is the problem with W3 total cache and is autoptimize a real caching plugin or just an optimizing plugin?
The problem with W3 total cache is that it's primarily been abandoned. There was a huge controversy last year having to do with that because there were security vulnerabilities and the developer wasn't patching them. The problem is it's a very popular plug-in with no business model so there's no reason for the developer to stay engaged with the coding and development of it. On a side note you are 100% right that I made a goof in this video and that autoptimize is not a true caching plug-in, it's more of an optimization plug-in. I'm going to make a companion video specifically about using these tools to make your website faster.
I haven't actually used that tool that they have available for their customers. I do think it's primarily just a fork of WP super cache or something along those lines. Meaning it's not a custom plug-in that they had built, but a forked version of another plug-in and they may have changed a few things.
Hello, Adam! Great job all around. Is there a particular plugin or a way to add a top level menu or links like phone number, email address or social media links on one's site as you have it on your site and mostly on an ecommerce site? So eager and curious to know how that's done. Thanks in advance
Typically your theme would have a top bar option that gives you the options to put all that information in. I would check with your theme documentation.
WPCrafter.com WordPress For Non-Techies Same way I thought too. But I couldn't find that option. I'm using Themify page builder. Maybe you have one or two tricks about that
Great help, Thank you Adam! I did send you a message on another video; I am having a hard time with two issues, my Customize panel is blank, and the Hamburger menu does not work, but only on my mobile home/front page? My theme is Pinnacle by Kadence. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Ulrich in Switzerland
Thank you. I used your tutorials to build my site examples and two proposals. Ive not heard back and it’s been a week. Should I follow up? Or assume failure
Hey, Adam! Could one use both WP-Super-Cache in combination with Autoptimize? Confused about caching vs. optimizing CSS. Also, could you use the plugin Code-Snippets to install the Google Analytics code?
your videos are really helpful , i am running travelling and fitness blog on my wordpress website with .com domain but really struggling between themes, first used NISARG then used SYDNEY but thats too much visual i want to keep minimilistic with blogs and social media to engage people, i am looking for free theme , can you suggest a good blog theme ? thanks in advance !
Hi Adam, Great tutorials - I have set-up a few new sites in the last week and have a question about transition from the shopping cart back to my store. Presently when a product is placed in the shopping cart and the customer clicks on Continue Shopping they are sent back to the item they purchased. What I want to happen is for the customer to be sent back to my store when they click on the Continue Sopping Button. Can you assist me with this? Also, one comment about your sites home page email option - I was taken back when I tried to send you an email message and I was sent to my email client - why do you not use a Contact Form for your communications - just a question why you - the Teacher - would use something like email in place of a Contact Form - Thanks & I will keep on taking your tutorials - They Are The Best - Jake
