I'm a 48 year old black woman who loves sports and when I ran across you.. You were manifesting 100k...to see you pushing almost 350 is wild! I'm proud to say I'm a day one fan and I'm proud of you young man! My husband and son subscribed because I told them about you... Keep up the great work!
Jarett Guarantano was the most frustrating QB for me to watch as a UT fan. It’s because he so clearly had the talent and ability to be a good quarterback, but his inconsistency constantly undermined him. A play I always think of is when he literally got sacked on a bubble screen play. Like how to you get sacked on a play when he ball should be out of your hand instantly. I know we’ve had worse quarterbacks, but at least none of them gave me hope like guarantano did.
Play I think of is that goal line against bama when it was a hand-off and guard pulled but he called his own number and wanted be the savior and back fired... but if heup had him I think he would been a good player just bad coaches
I remember that Alabama game Pruitt chewed his ass out for calling an audible on that goal line play that was meant to be run for the running back but Jarrett decided to do a QB Sneak & fumbled the ball at the goal line & Bama returned it for a TD. He went into business for himself on that play
As a UT fan this was hard to watch. We had to much hope when he signed. Turned out he was definitely not a “dual threat” QB and couldn’t read a defense to save his life
Taylor Martinez out of Nebraska would be an awesome video to see, he was electric in college! Some of the plays I watched this man make were just jaw-dropping. He could scramble better then most QBs, would have liked to see him succeed in the NFL but it was crickets after his college career. Love these videos, keep it up!
Hey yo matt as a Tennessee vols fan I appreciate you making this video about Jarrett guarantano and I Remember jarrett guarantano when He played so badly in the 2018 2019 and 2020 season because of Jeremy Pruitt And bad play and too many interceptions and he also had he also had terrible ball security and in the 2020 season which I remember in the Kentucky game he got bench over Harrison Bailey who was also a big-time recruit in his class (the class of 2020) then then Jeremy Pruitt probably got fired because recruiting violations and giving recruits money in McDonald's bags then there was a coaching change and roster change with Josh heupel coming in then he decided to put his name in the transfer portal and go to Washington State which he only played 3 games but in the 2020 season guarantano only played in five games because in the Kentucky game he was bench over Harrison Bailey and in 2020 they had to switch to three different quarterbacks because 2018 the 2019-2020 Tennessee had terrible quarterback play which is a Vols fan myself I don't want to remember it because those were 3 of The worst years as a Tennessee fan
btw Pruitt did not actually do that he was just the scapegoat for a bigger scheme that was going on in Knoxville maybe Matt can do a video looking into that entire situation.
Imo, he probably overachieved except for the 2020 season when you consider who the coach was. JP knew nothing about offense and TN was very poorly coached. 2020 was the year known as the year finally the good ole boy network at TN died. It was defensive minded and little offense. Consistently that put up at 6th in the SEC in defense but if you can't score enough, the defense means nothing. Harrison Bailey was also wasted under JP and the scandal made sure Bailey could not remain at TN. I though JP could have been great if an actual great OC QB whisperer got ahold of him. At least he can say he's still playing some football today and trying to make a living at it. JP will be back to coaching, after this season he's got what, a year left on his show cause? Time flies when your team is winning more and you look forward to winning at a higher level here on rocky top. Hope we never go back to D minded only football. This is the best offensive years or era imo under this HC.
Matt.. I would love to see a video on Sam McGuffie. I'm in Ann Arbor and the hype that was coming in with him at the time was some of the loudest I've heard. Keep up the good work brother!
As a tennesssee fan he was so frustrating to watch. I’ll never forget his goal line fumble against bama that was taken for a td, and that pretty much sealed the game. I will say he is a vfl and I respect that he stuck it out that long with us.
During his time at Tennessee, I was very critical of JG2. His inconsistencies in accuracy and decision making drove me nuts. But the kid had the heart of a warrior and truly loved Tennessee. To stay here amid all the criticism and death threats from rabid fans, he'd have to. Now, after seeing the facts, he was a super talented kid who had the bad luck of playing for two of the most inept clowns to ever coach here. This kid was NEVER developed as a QB. He never even had the same OC or the same QB coach until his R-Sr season. 5 Seasons, 2 Head Coaches, (3 if you count Brady Hoke), 4 offensive coordinators, 4 QB coaches. How do you get consistent development like that. Status Head Coach Offensive Coordinator QB Coach 2016 Redshirt Butch Jones Mike DeBord Mike DeBord 2017 Backup/Starter Butch Jones Larry Scott Mike Canales Brady Hoke (Intm) 2018 Starter Jeremy Pruiit Tyson Helton Tyson Helton 2019 Starter Jeremy Pruiit Jim Chaney Chris Weinke 2020 Starter Jeremy Pruiit Jim Chaney Chris Weinke As much as I hate to say this as a Tennessee fan, the worst decision he ever made was choosing to play here. The clown show of the Jones/Pruitt years ruined this young man's career.
JT Daniel’s started his college football career at USC, transferred to Georgia and lost his job to Stetson “DoorDash” Bennett, then transferred to west Virginia, didn’t really workout, then transferred again to rice where he spent his last year playing football and medically retired due to multiple concussions! Great videos Matt, your doing a great job getting us through the ❌❌FSEASON
In his defense, he almost had a new coach every year, and the offensive schemes changed three times while he was there. The offensive line had holes big enough to drive a truck through. It wasn't a very good time!
I really liked JG and his Parents came to a lot of the games. It's always good to get love form Bama fans like You and KB, Thanks for that and Go Vols!
thank you for at least realizing why some of us don't wanna relive this, shoutout Matt. and i did change my mind, the name JG just throws me into a depression along with several other TN fans😂
I had a love / hate view of JG at Tennessee…. He almost always gave his all every game - injured or not… he had a crap o line…. But his inconsistency killed us. I appreciate him - but was glad when he left.
Sum it up EASY: As a UT fan we never knew from week to week what he was gonna bring!! I do believe our current coaching staff would have been much, much better for JG 🤷🏻♂️
Not sure if you have ever done a video on Texas Tech QB Graham Harrell but it could be good. I'm not a huge fan of Texas Tech but I really enjoyed watching the Harrell/Crabtree connection. Michael Crabtree and Graham Harrell were absolutely awesome to watch.
As a UT fan who lives here, just the opposite was true. He didn't disappear, in fact it seemed as if he was here forever. Every year they were going to replace him, but he was always a little better than his replacement But to his credit, he was very tough.
As a lifelong Vols fan, I looked at the thumbnail and the title 6 times over the last 10 hrs before actually watching the video. With all that it took me and additional 10 seconds into the video to realize that's not Nico Lamalueva
Would love to see a video on Michael Dyer, 8k rushing yards in 3 years of high school, Freshman year All SEC and All American, National Champ and MVP w/ Auburn in 2011 to Undrafted in 2015. He’s from my city and I remember getting him to sign autographs after his games when I was in middle school. He was a massive deal.
This would be an oldie but I would love to see you do a story on Alabama QB Walter Lewis who briefly in the early 80s went on to play for the USFL Memphis Showboats.
Dude.. i can watch you're videos all day.. even if you was to be talking about nothing.. no homo its you're voice bro.. you're a great story teller.. love all you're stuff
As a Tennessee the perfect video to follow this one would be Harrison Bailey the one who was supposed to take over after him or many fans (like me) wanted him to start over Guarantano. 5 Star top 5 Qb coming out of high school was supposed to bring Tennessee back and was just never good, ended up transferring to UNLV losing starting job and now at Louisville
A Dwayne Haskins vid would be awesome if you haven’t made one yet. He is one of the most beloved quarterbacks in Columbus even when he was playing for us.
**MATT** AJ McCarron - gonna keep saying it til you make it. I’m a vol fan, but he was one of the best qb’s I’d seen growing up. Doesn’t get the credit, or respect he deserved. I could be wrong, but also feel he never really got his shot in the NFL. 🤘🏼 Love the channel, football is almost back, college football video game, it’s gonna be a good year!
As a TN fan he was tough, unfortunately Pruitt was his head coach and ran a system that needed a pocket passer, plus they never developed him...at all! He always looked for 1 WR and 1 WR only and the defense knew that
DJ Hall, Roman Harper, Nick Gentry, Kyle Tatum, Barrett Jones, Will Lowery, Vinnie Sunseri, any of the WR's from 07-11. All the qb's that transferred out. Trey Smith the white RB from auburn😊
I’m a tenn fan and imo he was given too much of the blame for why tenn struggled. We had a coach that refused to develop players and always said “we need to recruit better”. We had A sorry oline and he was getting killed every game. And a defense filled with talent that couldn’t stop anyone. I truly felt bad for the guy.
The problem i always have with fans hating these QBs is that a vast majority of the time, a lot of these guys were just put into terrible situations. JG is a guy who should have sat for 2 year with an actually good OC and QB coach running a good offense. He had the talent, and you could have devised a great offense around him, but this man had a new OC every year, and all of them suck. Look at where they are now after being at Tennessee.
The problem at Washington State wasn't so much the knee injury as much as that he was totally ineffective. Jayden DeLaura came in and showed an immediate spark, so we just took the good with the bad. His turnover rate was atrocious and he just didn't seem to have command of the team like you would expect a 6th year senior to have.
How about Jaime Mendez a first team all American for Kansas State when they were emerging as a football power back in the early 90's. He was projected to be a first round pick then never got drafted. He might not a big name outside of K State football but I'm curious.
Well, in his defense, we had a terrible coaching staff, and he went through multiple coaching changes. If he had Huepel as a coach, who knows, he may have been decent. Idk. As a UT fan, im just glad those years are over. I'm almost 32, so I've seen us at our best, and at what was hopefully our worst. Lol. I never missed a game, though. Im just glad we got decent again before the new NCAA football game came out. Lol.
I want to know what ever happened to Terrence Edwards WR at UGA. at the end of his college career he had the SEC record for most receiving yards and 2nd in receptions but I don't ever remember hearing about him in the NFL.
Matt as a fellow New jerseyan ..Jersey has alot of top that goes to the Sec and im not about to sit here and name them ..but Jersey produces alot of top D1 talent year in and year out
JG came at the end of a long stretch of bad football at TN with a HC who had no clue what he was doing offensively, JP. Had Heupel have been there, JG would be an NFL QB. At times he was very good, always scrappy and could take more hits than a crash test dummy and get up for more. He had all the ability that Hendon Hooker did coming out of HS and probably more. The offensive scheme was a mess at TN under JP and thin depth made it all the more difficult for him. But he was a guy with nerve issues. He was at his best coming off the bench after not starting.
JG put it all out there for the Vols. He couldn't help the coaching and therfore talent of the program. His last year was Pruits last year. Looking back, he was a decent qb and a stand up guy. GBO 🍊 🍊 🍊
Still didn’t answer the biggest question or the biggest reason he didn’t perform well: WHAT HAPPENED to his dual threat ability!?!? He was not a dual threat nor did he even attempt to be! He absolutely never made any attempt to run or get out of any trouble using his mobility! He was literally on the Rick Clausen mobility level! Nothing nada zilch! How could this glaring question not be mentioned in this video?
Hey, I'm Canadian and only been into college football for a few years. Does a 5 star from new Jersey hold the same weight as a 5 star from Texas? Or better yet would a 3 star from Texas be better than a 3 star from Jersey simply because the competition would be higher? Would the size of school 5A,6A, etc. Be taken into consideration as well? Thanks for any info.
Matt NJ has a good amount of top recruits. It’s just a smaller state. You just compared it to the ones you just rattled off. Prior to schools like IMG, NJ consistently had one of the top teams on the East Coast with Don Bosco/Bergen Catholic always nationally ranked. typically New Jersey football is the top eight program regardless of size of state which is seemingly unlikely because usually the higher per capita the less college recruits coming out of the state
You want your QB to be able to lift the team up when the defense gives up 400yrds passing. If the opposing QB has 400+ yard's and your QB barely get's 200yrd passing. His completion percentage never improved, he didn't even average 8 yard's PER PASS!
Idk that Tennessee was struggling. 2016 was the best season we had since Fulmer then JG happened. I liked the guy but he couldn't get it together on the football field. I know he worked hard but just didn't have it between the ears
i went to a rival hs of his, he was a talented camp qb w every tool but it never translated in game. he didnt even stand out much in hs, his ranking was all projection
@@TheBigRedOutlaw no I know he ain’t. However you clearly don’t see the writing on the wall. Coach change means a culture change. We’ve seen dynasties crumble if the culture don’t stick. Also recruiting classes don’t mean much anymore. It’s a new age of football
Im a big 12 guy and a baylor fan you should do a vid of Nick Florence or Bryce petty... then after that i can name of a whole bunch of old big 12 players going back 20 years
Hey yo matt could do a video on Harrison Bailey because no one hasn't really talked about him and he was going to be the next Tennessee quarterback but I would like you to make a video on him #mattbewhiterandy
You missed a lot of information in this video. It’s important to note the coaching changes and the fact he was benched multiple times by a couple of true freshman
Do one on Bobby Reid. I'm from North Shore, the last I heard of him is when his mom threw a fit over him getting benched at OK St then after that I have no clue what happened.
