This is the most useful channel I subscribe to, hands down, and I'm not even petite. You get straight to the point, have incredibly insightful advice, and present it beautifully. Thank you so much for all your tips! (Currently pregnant with a big belly but storing all these tips in my head for future reference.)
You are like a wizard with clothing! I always watch your videos for wearing the right clothing, your styling, and the fact you get right to the examples instead of talking people to death! Very well done! I'm short too so perfect videos for me!!! Now only if the stores would carry more petite clothes!
I love to see older women embracing shorter shirts, especially if they are petite. I think it’s easy to roll your eyes at young people and think the trend is just to show skin when, in reality, it is about achieving the golden ratio and elongating the legs in addition to the shorter tops creating less bulk with high waisted jeans. For young girls who arent Instagram models, you don’t even see any skin when we wear cropped tops- it’s simply a good way to create our desired silhouette
When I want to wear a crop top that shows some skin when I move, I wear a matching body underneath. It can match either the top, the skirt, or both. I also wear my cropped cardigans over dresses, this makes the legs, or bottom half of my body, look longer. At 61, I still wear short skirts, but I try to keep them within 3 inches of the top of my kneecap, and mostly wear matching tights and boots. (I also wear a lot of midis). My legs look just as good now as when I was 21, so why not? I was lucky and inherited vein-free, slender legs, I can’t take the credit for it, but they don’t deserve to be hidden just because of a date. I remember an older relative criticizing a woman for wearing an anove-kned skirt and a ponytail, “she must be 30!” yes, truly shocking! I think this was a hint for me, which I completely ignored.
Hello i read your add and i met a gal years ago and she was into her 40s and made a big deal about her mom wearing skirts in her 60s which i did not like what she said at least there are some women who are into there 60s that look real good in jean or mini skirts which i be 60 coming up next week
I am 5’7” and love your channel. Looking taller = looking slimmer. Plus, your videos are filled with “the why” which helps me understand why some outfits feel right and others don’t. Incredibly helpful video. Thank you.
Thank you, thank you Chi!, Finally, I know why sometimes I feel awkward when I checked myself in the mirror. I knew that something wasn't working but I couldn't find the solution until now that I subscribed to your channel. You are the face of all the petite women, thanks for giving us the solution.
Your channel is excellent ,really,I like your straight to the point attitude, and I love your humor so much , never saw a channel about styling with so good advices and at the same time being funny to watch! Great!
I usually come to the same conclusion as you are portraying here when I look at various combos in the mirror, but I must say, you really hit home, and I find I still can learn a few things from you despite my inner fashion voice.
I’m 61 and one of my absolute NOs is a tunic top (the other is capri pants). They are so aging and make the legs look stumpy. Worn over leggings, as is common, they give a really unattractive ice-cream cone silhouette. I always tuck in my tops or wear shorter ones, above the hip bone or, ideally, waist-length. Because I’m not tall, some crop tops work for me, without showing any skin, especially if I size up one size. I think the most important thing for petites and most other women is to show the full leg length, floor to waist. Also, the tunic and legging look was only in style briefly in the 90s, it’s time to move on. I stopped shopping at those “mature” brands, they’re not designed to flatter mature women, they just make women look more mature than they really are.
I sure agree with you. I'm baffled though because I have the most beautiful cashmere tunic sweater that I'll be keeping, and I think I'm going to have to do the tall boots with it. I can't think of much else because of the legging and the ice-cream cone silhouette like you said. Thankfully my sweater is a slimmer, straight cut so it's not on the bulky side. I can only see this working with leggings or slim jeans/pants. 😕
Wear the long tunic sweater with a midi skirt (a line) and belted with a thin belt. And tights and boots. Would be great if the skirt and tunic sweater are in the same shades for that chic monochrome look but even if no, still great!
I love your videos! I always get so much useful information. I have watched you for a long time but I don’t write comments…. shyness. You have changed my approach to outfits with the rule of thirds. I never understood why my outfit was not working until that video a long time ago. You have elevated my look and my day with your style and sense of humor. Much love and appreciation for all you do! Thanks
Chi, you are my style Guru. I wish I could afford to have a stylist (you) to buy my clothes for me. Lol Shopping is not fun for me. It is very stressful and confusing.
I just came across your fashion videos last night because I was in process of choosing what to wear to a visitation and funeral this weekend, and later on a baby shower, so "a few" things, a tad busy🤔😬.. Wanted to be appropriate and Not draw attention , But still look fresh fashionable Up-to-date And most of all classy, But also wanted to be comfortable. The 3 of your videos I've watched so far have been very helpful you've made some good points I had not heard from Other fashion videos and I really like alot of the outfits you put together... Thanks so much..
Fabulous advice as always! I don't usually wear above the knee skirts, but I converted a blanket wrap into a skirt, and it looked fabulous with my longer cable knit sweater and tall boots!
Thank you for this video!! I was looking for a video to give me answers on how to shorten a sweater.. Opened this vid and you did just that and then more ! 👏🏾 you’re videos help me understand my body and feel more confident in my outfits
I am confused by your comments that tunics are aging. I’m 67 and they are the only thing I feel comfortable wearing with leggings/tights. I’m not talking about tunics that are baggy and knee length, just ones that cover the crotch. So I throw out my leggings because tunics are aging? Please explain.
Your video as are some of my favorites. Everything you review makes perfect sense. I want to try some of these combos in my closet( without shopping). Thank you!
I'm a hoarder of cardigans, and I regularly wear them to complete an outfit 😅 Tbf sometimes my outfit could be described as 'well, she definitely comfy' 😅🤣
I love that you don’t prescribe these things and instead just show the effects and provide actually helpful suggestions instead of providing ways we “have to” do things, also one thing I’ve noticed is even if the jeans/pants aren’t “skinny” if they are dark and just a bit fitted it has a very similar look That being said I wear my long sweaters with long wide pants all the time, but all my long sweaters are open front and all my pants are high-waist so it still looks balanced.
I know that short skirts look real good on women eapecially jean skirts i really enjoy watching your videos Chi because as a man i love to see what your wearing so i can tell you just what i think
Great video. At 57, I’m ok with longer crop top and high waisted pants/skirts, but what about a camisole under a cropped sweater for those that feel too exposed?
Can you do something for us with big bums and hips? I feel tucking in accentuates that area and I’m so self conscious about it. I need to find the perfect pants but I can’t find them! Help! Love your videos! You always make me laugh!
Chai i really enjoy your videos educational and funny😂 can you please find make up for the leg that doesn't transfer on clothes to cover varicose veins please please thank you keep up the great work big fun🙏🏽
I'm an older gal and I have a couple tunic sweatshirts & sweaters which I love and wear often, so they stay! It's great to have these tips - proportion, boots, belt etc. I wear leggings with my tunics and because my legs are slender, the leggings look like pants. I have tall boots but for the life of me I can't find a belt that fits my larger stomach (apple). Very helpful video! The search for a belt continues!
Thanks for sharing the wonderful tips . I believe and follow the guidelines . Top dressing tips for a petite person like me. Love watching your videos.❤️👏👏😘😘
Eye opening video! Well done! When you're petite, where do you find good quality cropped sweaters? So far I have only seen them in cheap stores for teenagers...
@@PetiteDressing oh wow, I've been following your channel for a while but I had no idea that you have your own line of clothing, I'll definitely check it out!
Styles this season are terrible for us petites, all those oversized, super-long and wide, chunky sweaters and jackets. I’m hoping for a return to body-skimming tailoring soon.
Finally someone feels the same way about skinny jeans. I always hated it , exactly for the reason that it feels like a full body bandage and suffocate my legs. Also to be honest, I seldom found them attractive for most women. It shows off everything and very few people have perfect half body.
I have a short torso and average legs, I am 5' 5.5". I am slim with a thicker middle and all of the shirts and tanks out there always come down to my crotch and make my legs look short and stubby. I recently started getting cropped tops but a lot of the crop tops are too cropped for my taste, so I started buying my shirts and tops in a petite, it solved the problem! The hit me just below my waist.
CHI, another excellent video! I love the trick with a belt to shorten a longer tunic sweater. Will the stiff type of belt work better than the elastic one? The elastic one always make me feel hard to breath after a while.
I find the short top rule hard to follow since I am busty and short-waisted. It is really hard for me to get away from the long cardigans. I just feel a need to wear them if not wearing a blazer. With jeans I tend to just wear long sleeve t-shirts that are more loose but well fitted, although I do not think this makes me any taller than my 5'2 inches. I do usually purchase petite tops though. I have looked for more tops that are not cotton t-shirt or stretchy for this spring but have not seen any shorter ones that I like yet. Could you do a video for busty short girls? Also, I am 63 years old and do not want to look frumpy, or like an old granny, another reason I do not purchase a lot of things I see.
Hi Chi, great video as always. I have a request. I'm 5'2" pear shape with some apple tendencies. Now that I'm going through peri-menopause I want to disguise my thighs AND my stomach but I don't want to just wear oversized clothes. Please help! I'm sure I'm not the only one with this "problem."
I don't have skirts since I whent through the change, I'm 5' 4" with a tummy and I'm 51 years of age, I feel like skirts are for the younger. Plus I have a few veins showing up. They are not to visible but to me they are like traffic lights! So I can wear a short skirt with leggings?
Some great tips! Love your channel! Unfortunately, many of us who are short and ‘older’ don’t wear cropped tops of ANY kind because it will show where we have no waist at all, (huge). That is why many older women go to longer sweaters. It’s for that same reason why we don’t like to tuck things in-especially sweaters. May I have your shape, please? 😉😂❤
I'm 5ft 2 and "older" (55), and I've found that "standard" size crop tops (with a waist detail, no trapeze tops) hit me just at the right point of my waist, low enough to be comfortable, but not so low as to enter frumpy territory. I never tuck in sweaters- too bulky for me. When I tuck in blouses, I always wear a wider belt- it acts like a corset, and smooths out any unsightly bumps.
@@donnaleach8119 Oh yeah, it's become part of my signature look, lol! I found a belt that was perfect for my style, and I bought two, so that if one broke, I'd have the other one handy, in case belt styles had changed. Belts make a nice transition between tops and bottoms :)
This is my problem, too. At 71 I am very thick at the waist and tummy, especially in the side view, and I’m self conscious about it as a petite. So I’ve lived in tunics since, well, the 90s. I would love your thoughts on this dilemma.
@@madelinemeacham7316 I used to know a lady who was as tall as she was wide. She wore lace combos (tops and long skirts) and knits in classic styles, with a wide V-neck tops to bring the eye up. Another lady wore slacks with a long duster over her top, to give her a longer line. I think Petite Dressing has a video on wearing longer cardigans to fool the eye (I recommend binge-watching and taking notes). Personally, I gave up on jeans in my 40s- the waistband always cuts into my middle, the fabric isn't forgiving on my shape, and my personal style is skirts and dresses. I wear fabrics that drape and prints.
Hi Jeannie! Our sizes are limited by what our manufacturers made, but we are working on expanding our size range. You can check back for our weekly new arrivals! :)
@@PetiteDressing Thank you so much for a prompt response. I love the items and am glad to hear maybe they will come in XL. You have a very good channel and everything you say convinces me !
Well you wouldn't approve of my style but I love long sweaters and tunic tops. Maybe it's because I have long legs for my height and a short torso, so it just looks more balanced. Tops that end around the waist make me look like my shoulders are equally wide as the top of my body is long. Ugh, I just say no to short tops!
I wear longer jumpers and have never worn a mini skirt in my life ( I'm 60 / 5 ft tall)....and never worn a dress / skirt in about 25 years. No one ever sees my legs. I wear what's comfortable, what doesn't make me feel self conscious and I don't care. I never even followed fashion trends as a teenager onwards. I have a shorter jumper that I bought because I loved the colour. Have only worn it once and hated the length...never again. I have no idea why this came up as a suggestion, as I have never watched anything of this kind. Weird. 🤷♀️
