Great information and display CW. I would like to be able to see what some of the original buffalo hunters would think of the bullets and capabilities of the 45/70 today...
Great video brother I need to get another 45/70 I had a Marlin that I sold about 3 years ago. Never even got to shoot it had to let it go because I fall on hard times. Now that I’m casting I really wish I had that rifle now.
Thanks for the video, CW! Very informative and interesting as usual! You are tempting me to buy a good one, and Ricci is tempting me towards the 444 Marlin! I don’t believe a man needs both, but, hey, why not, huh??
A Really GREAT Video, My Friend. I used the Nickel plated brass for black powder loads. A very good dissertation on cast bullets for .45-70Gov't loads.
Thanks for the walk through of your favorite bullets. I'm a 45-70 fan, but don't cast my own bullets. I just buy 'em from my buddy who does a fine job of casting 300 & 405 grain plain base bullets for the 45-70.
CW you have a very nice collection of 4570 bullets brother. I load 458 Socom so I'm down for that one bullet you were showing in 300 grain. Great video brother. Echo
@@eddieb1766 I have a video (probably on my rumble account) on my last Ranch Dog the 432-265 I like them as well. I am lucky to have a number of them is a few calibers.
Awesome comparisons on some big bullets CW! They all look good too. I’ve only shot a 45/70 once and it was a little too much gun for me lol. Nice job buddy. 🙂👍👏👏
Its a good'um Mr Pollard!! With lil Collar buttons (160g) ya can shoot lil critters and with 500+g in a stout firearm Its taken at least some of the big Five in Africa!!
Thanks for sharing I have the brown and the red loaded in the 450 bushmaster I still have to go to the range for that I have so much don’t know we’re to start 😂
Morning! Great selection you have there. Lots of good looking options. I have a 450BM upper on order and a few molds to cast with(200gr SWC & 252gr SWC). Still looking for a 300gr and 350gr option. Do I need a round nose style, or can the SWC feed/cycle in a semi? Thanks brother👊🇺🇸
I love the selection on .458, I shoot the slick side noe hollow points from 285 to 500, I have a socom and the martinis, .458 patches up to .470 with two turns of onion skin so I only have one mold in .468. I love lobbing lead, Thanks for the video.
have not experienced one yet....I briefly had a 444 Marlin, 5years ago but never shot it as it was too long a cartridge for deer , so I let it go, kept the brass and converted it to 410 for my single shot
I did so as well but some of my 410's dont like the small rim. So I have been using 303 Brit. Much better rim but sometimes too thick!! Also more work to convert to 410/straight.
Several of the 45 cal molds are really versatile. I have an NOE 454-241 that drops around 230 grains as a hollow point. It's fat enough as-cast to load in 45-70 brass too. It turns my Marlin into a varmint rifle. 🤣
I have never shot lighter then 300 in my 45/70's. But in my 450 Bushmaster I have sized some of these down and have a Hornady HAP 230g that shoots bug holes @ 2500 fps!!!
Evening cw. Awsome collection of bullets for big 45-70. My dad got a lever marlin my brother got for him for his birthday few years ago the long barrel big loop. Thing will hammer deer with 325gr bullet. Dad miss coyote with 2 years ago just shot under it hit a log blow all mess. My dad 45-70 vs old 338win mag. My brother ask load some bear hunting load for dad. I plan on one day . My dad head back Canada 🇨🇦 this year with it with 325gr ftx wouldn't be my choice but should still do job. My uncle take 1 bear with the 270 and one with old 300 savage. My cusin take one with bow one with 300 win.
The 325 FTX is a new bullet. I haven't used yet but if like the rest if the bullets in that line, its fragile. Will be ok on thin skinned critters but nit as much as they get tougher.
I’ve loaded the 45/70 for about 35 years. My all time favourite pick is the same as you. 350 Micro Ranch Dog Mould made by NOE. I wore out my original 2 cavity Ranch Dog but NOE picked up the slack. I assume you powder coat and do not apply lube..?? I own five 4570’s. Can’t go wrong with that. Shot my first cast bullet in 1970. Never looked back.
