The 4GB RX 550 - Can It Offer An Enjoyable Gaming Experience In 2021? 

Honestly, having a gpu in 2021 is already a good experience.

For anyone being negative about the performance of the rx 550 4gb.. you should make a video that compares the rx 550 4gb to not having a gaming pc at all. In stead of fps.. you can measure general happiness vs staring at a blank wall.

i used this card because when i built my pc in 2020 everything was just expensive, i planned to get the 1650 for my build but ended up with 550. honestly i'm satisfied with the performance since i mainly play competitive game like valorant so it's enough.

I know a Potato can run GTA V but I always come here to see how it runs on everything. Please keep it in your benchmarks as long as possible 😎 Also, I was not disappointed!

I think it would be interesting to do a video on cards with similar passmark scores, or look up things like the score of an Intel UHD series iGPU and then test any Nvidia or AMD cards that may be older but score similarly and see what's the better overall choice, to keep your UHD or pair it with an older card with similar scoring.

My RX550 is still running good and smooth. It's turning 4 years old now. I can play GTAV, sekiro, and Sniper Elite 4 smoothly. Though Im living here in the Philippines where temps go 38-40 deg everyday, I've never experienced bad with my GPU.

Before an upgrade to a much-needed RX 6600 to be able to play games like halo infinite at 60 fps at high the XFX brand of this RX 550 4GB card did super well since like 2017. It only really started to get obsolete for me when trying to play infinite or attempt to do videos on Unreal Engine 5. I thank this card for getting me through the shortage, honestly needed to upgrade in 2020 but couldn't be due to the prices. It handled 1440p in a lot of modern games too well.

I've had mine for almost a year now and I can say I'm pleased with it. It consistently hits Console-like experiences and when it doesnt it either out performs the consols or it just doesnt play it lol. also really good with emulation stuff and I've done a bit of blender renders at a comfortable fps. Bro, your timing with this video is nothing short of impeccable! Was actually looking into this card.

IMO, with these types of "low" GPU power, "high" VRAM cards, you should lower settings to reach your target frame rate, then turn up textures as much as you can without it affecting performance. It's possible higher textures will lower performance due to memory bandwidth in some games, but in most you should see no FPS difference as you're under your VRAM capacity.

I have RX560 ROG I'm satisfied with it, silent, 2 fan and lots of steel to contain heat, and doesn't turn up below 55 Celsius

At this point I watch your videos just because I like your voice in the background while working. Have you considered doing a podcast (can be via RU-vid) about computer news or nature or book reviews or or or...? I would definetly listen to it, as long as it is free. You can always promote a product in the podcast to make money, I wouldn't mind that as long as you make it clear that the next 20 seconds or so is an ad.

Just got one of these for $35 for my Optiplex 790 Linux build. Already upgraded it to i7 2600 from i5 2500 for $20. Should be a cool little rig.

My go to cheap card used to be the GTX 750TI, but right now the 550 is just about the only game in town. Its a good little card for what it is... i pulled one from a pre built HP that I replaced with a GTX 1650 ( non super ) which is my favorite GPU for systems low power systems. The 550 paired nicely with a dell office pc i got for under 100$ that had an I5, 8gb ram and a 120gb SSD. Its a capable home entertainment pc that is great for hooking up to the TV to watch videos or play emulator games... I gave it to a friend and now he an play elder scrolls online with very nice results.

I still have this, I haven’t used my computer for gaming, just got into it, definitely need a new one.

Had a powercolour 4gb 550 a few years ago was perfect for free to play games and eSports game. Upgraded to a powercolour Rx 460 4gb now and untill gpu market goes down not to bad a card and have unlocked the extra shaders and tmus runs all games good including cyberpunk

I even have a small overclock on mine. 1171Mhz core and 1950Mhz on memory and haven't had any issues for over a year. Paired with I5-2400 in an Optiplex 390 Budget Build.

Good video. Still loving my RX 570 8GB and for the games I play it runs just about anything without a hitch.

I paired the 4gb Rx550 with an old i5 661 system. It can surprisingly handle 40-60 Fps at 1440p resolution on some older PC melters of the past like Far Cry 2, Bioshock etc. More recent titles are a little hit or miss, for example I got Doom Eternal to run 60+ FPS with everything turned down to low at 50% resolution scaling of 1080p but the old i5 661 sometimes ends of bottlenecking the Rx550 at certain areas. CS:GO was also another nightmare for the system, I remember playing it 100+ FPS with the same i5 661 paired with a GTX 465 but I suppose updates over the years made the game more demanding, getting a consistent 60 FPS was almost impossible and I gave up on the game. R6 Siege on the other hand ran beautifully using Vulkan api with all settings on low except textures on high at 1080p getting a consistent 60 FPS. This card can certainly revive an old PC you have laying around the house, I even tested it with a Q6600 but the CPU is just too slow to keep up with the card and ends up bottlenecking the whole system, not really fun, a GT 1030 GDDR5 variant would probably a better choice for that.

I gotta say I got this little card on sale for a low grade gaming gpu, and dude its so much better than what it was worth. I can run RDR2 with razer cortex on at 46 fps, and csgo at over 80, gta runs greatly, its a great gpu. the only games ive had issues with are Cod modern warfare but thats most likely because i have 8gb ram.

Last year I built a PC with amd 1600 and radeon 550. Impressed with its gaming performance so far.

a prebuilt with an old i5 is a great candidate for these cards the AMD pro-wx 2100 & 3100 are just low profile single slot 550s with 2 or 4 gigs of vram & could be found for a good price (at least pre supply shortages)

I have a 2gb MSi Aero ITX RX 550 and it still manages to keep up with most of the games I throw at it at mixed medium and mixed high settings at 40 to 50 fps. Granted that I've paired it with the R3 3300x and 3200mhz ddr4 ram

A nice idea would be to test that 2060 with older cpus at high settings to see if you can reduce or eliminate bottlenecks

I have one of these sitting in a closet I bought new couple of years ago and never used. Was just thinking about throwing it in my office pc to use it for some light games during downtime

I’m running a ASUS RX550 4GB in my HP 190-0068a. Bought my ASUS RX550 in November 2017 for $139 and am still very happy with this GPU. Previously, the RX550 was in a custom-built AMD A8-7850 powered PC.

With a gaming-centered Linux distro, utilizing all the tools/launch options in ProtonGE/DXVK, being smart with your graphics settings, and a controller you'll get a very nice PC couch console.

Could you do a rx 460/560 vs r5 4650g comparison? Would be interesting seeing how much more you need to spend for it being worthwhile to upgrade to a dgpu solution. As you said, this already trades blows, so would be interesting seeing if the next tier is a meaningful jump, or if you really need to track down a 470/570 tier card

G'day Random, I've seen lots of reviews on other channels where they have said don't bother with the 4GB version as you will get the same performance from the 2GB one, but that only applies if you are trying to get max FPS in a Fast Paced Shooter with Super Low Resolution, But when you're playing Adventure games the extra VRAM can make a big difference to the Graphical Quality at a Playable FrameRate like you have shown here in games like RDR2, so if you are just building a LowBudget Gaming PC to keep for a long time I think for similar price the 4GB is the way better option

Would've liked to see you add more esports titles, since I feel like someone buying this card would probably be playing games like that

I actually still have an rx550 2 gb running in a second pc.Yes it's slow by today standards but i had to save for a month to get it back in the day.I had the option to get an rx550 or a gt1030 so i went with the amd because it was slightly cheaper.

Considering I use a 1050ti GPU, I can understand the pro’s and cons of having a 4GB Gpu.

Just bought Sapphire Pulse RX550 4GB. Playing Halo Infinite is surprisingly entertaining (when you not thinking about fps). And only consuming 50watt!

0:50 I'd really like to see one of these low end 4GB GPU's compared to a high end 1GB GPU like say an old 6950 and see if VRAM makes as much difference as people think it does.

I believe the nvidia equivalent is a 1030, it be cool if they did a 4gb 1030 for testing!

Novigrad is certainly heavy location in Witcher 3, but it stresses mostly the CPU and is not so taxing when it comes to GPU. The best place to test graphics cards in this game is to bake a save at Velen while it's raining at day.

I had this card since dec 2019 and until feb 2021 it did well but started to get mad because warzone couldn’t run at more than 60fps consistent but now I upgraded to a 970 and it’s a good upgrade

hey RGHD, Nvidia and AMD drivers let you set a sharpness filter or however it is called, I would like to see if you try tuning this setting when you set the resolution a bit lower, maybe this makes it look a tad better

I used to had the rx 570 4 gb and it ead a beast to me.. run the RDR2 at medium-high at 30-40fps... Buuut i got unemployed and need some money, a friend offer me $150 for the gpu (it was the same price as i bought it) and i sold him without knowing how much they cost today... Now i am struggling with buying another gpu cause they raised their prices... I am thinking to buy one of these rx 550 4gb to play some games... Thanks for the video

I used to game on a GTX 1050 and a 3rd-gen i5, and it was a fairly enjoyable experience, even in more intensive games. Not to say im unhappy with my upgrade to an i7-6700k and a 980Ti though :)

It struggles hard with shader heavy games but otherwise chugs along nicely in my sister's PC. Originally wanted to use it for a retro rig but the GTX560 in her PC broke down so... card was migrated.

Great video - been waiting for this card to be covered to get an idea how it'd handle the more newer games cos.. I have it too! One thing I wish had been covered was overclocking. Yes, it is variable for everyone BUT it seems that most (including myself) are able to gain similar improvement. In my case using AMD inbuilt overclocking utility in Catalyst I'm able to play stably with a 11% GPU overclock (~1317Mhz), and memory increased from stock 1500Mhz to 1850Mhz with no issues. Really helps add an extra bit of performance, which I do think would help achieve that all important 30fps in some of these games.

Would you make video on RX470 any time soon? I'm currenty using RX 470 4g OC and i7 10700 and even with that 5 year old gpu im still doing great 1080p gaming. I think people should try something like 470/570 if they are low on budget

I used to game with less than this til Dec 2019, then I got a Rx580, then in November I bought an 5700xt at $660 cad, brand new was so worried it was a bad purchase until gpu prices skyrocketed. Now a 5700xt sells for $1300 cad for used. I made the right choice!

this card is so incredibly underrated, in my experience it runs pretty close to a 750 ti, but with 4gb vram and native dx12/vulkan support

I still have this video card…. For general use on an old dell XPS 8500 i7-3770 and it easily does 60fps on GTA5 and games in that generation.

I still have an RX 550, but the 2 GB version of the card, and I overclocked it. This card is doing well in my main computer.

My 2gb 560de gives me an enjoyable experience. World of Tanks hits 60fps consistently at high settings at 1080p and runs most other games I play at medium

Used this card with the i3 7100 through the ending part of 2023 and to say I was super surprised with what the system could handle would be an understatement. An unreasonable amount of titles ran at 2560x1600 near 60. Furthermore, the RX550 is pretty comparable in raw performance to the Xbox One S. One more thing you didn't mention, is that this particular 550 has very healthy overclocking abilities and runs within a small margine of the 560. I'd definitely recommend this over the 750Ti if you account for drivers.

You can flash a modded bios on it to unlock the rest of the shader cores

I bought it for my my brother in december 2020 and it runs like a beast and almost feels like my gtx 1060 3gb a lil more slow but still a beast XD

I have one and it's adequate. But when they roll out Fidelity FX for it, it might be even better.

After I turned my gaming rig into a low buck mining rig I`m currently running a 550 4GB as my main gpu and honestly it's been pretty solid.

I saw a second hand r9 380 4gb for 100 euros(500 ron) should I buy if as a stopgap gpu? The gtx 1060 3gb and rx 570 4gb are almost double the price. What do you think?

Please cover the 4gb r7 450, which is an OEM card. You maybe could figure out the drivers situation.

I've sold one build with this card and two with an rx 560. I think you can game at 1080p consistently with a 560. The 550 to 4GB is what the 3060 is to 12GB.. double what it needs really

For most games Ideally the textures at high and rest at low for a fixed resolution is imo an enjoyable experience. May differ for others.

It is good indeed. I have it and I m playing forza 5 in 60fps high settings, rdr2 on low-med settings in 40 fps. (8gb ram, and it 3470 3.3)

I just bought a aorus rx 570 4gb and a 550 4gb for 350 Canadian. I feel like I might have over paid but I'm happy cuz I'm coming from Intel hd graphics. the 550 doesn't have a fan so I'm unable to use it at the moment, but it works so thats that. the 570 is working awesome for me

Bought XFX RX560 4 GB (the full 1024 stream) single fan and need 6 pin PCI-e plug last week for roughly $50 used. Its a bit selective on game, while Fenyx Rising and Forza Horizon 4 works fine but Crash Nsane Trilogy crash after sometime (no pun intended), try to undervolt but no luck still randomly crash on that particular game (and Batman Arkham Origins actually). Will try to underclock it, who knew it helps

Only gpu i could afford and its runs so well, not really bothered about max settings long as it works

they make a Polaris 21/640sp version of this card, and it ROCKS!!! FSR runs great and it can do stuff with even AAA titles (playing GoW and Baldurs Gate 3 with ease). u got the less desirable version
