If you've been looking for a furnace, you've probably seen lots of options, all claiming to be the best. If that sounds like you, we can guide you in the right direction.
Having installed furnaces in homes across Los Angeles County and nearby areas, we're experienced in spotting quality furnaces. Even though Los Angeles has a warmer climate, it's still important to make a smart investment and not compromise on quality for long-term benefits.

Trane and American standard are the same both built by the same company Lennox is trash parts availability is bad and if you install one expect failures on there high end furnaces Goodman is by far the easiest to deal with warranty wise even had them give me a whole new unit to install when the warranty coil couldn't be received in a reasonable time carrier pretty decent just don't install them close to the ocean

Never thought of Goodman as a top brand. Their high efficiency furnaces are know for water leaking at the plastic manifold and when I called for a new gasket they said the part is obsolete. Stay away from Goodman. They would be closer to a bottom 5 in my opinion.

Not obsolete. You have to order collector box. Comes with gasket.

They’re all made in the same factories, efficiency rate can be cheated. Best thing you can get is a fan coil or hydro furnace otherwise it’s a box. Not a good trend to get consumers focused on the box and not the service. We offer 10-12 years warranty parts and labour on our own dime, plus consumables and tune ups for that 12 years.

I am guessing Goodman has made some quality strides over the years, it used to be called Janitrol, which all of the techs I knew called Junk-a-trol.

At 7:35 you were talking about the Trane Warranty, but showed the Carrier Warranty, I think the Heat Exchanger warranty for Trane is Lifetime not 5-10 years, which should be the same as the warranty for American Standard. Owner of a Trane XV95 running straight for 15 years without a single problem.
@michaelcso2400

I’m dumbfounded that Goodman is on this list. Worse yet he thinks they are below Rheem which in 2016 was rated #1 by consumer reports
@ArnieD17

But is a high-efficiency furnace the best route? They cost more, replacement parts are more, they tend not to last as long, and will you get the extra upfront cost back.
@livincincy4498
@livincincy4498 10 месяцев назад
Typically it is a (15) year payback on the high efficiency vs standard efficiency. Parts are typically (3) times more expensive and Labour is greater do to the number of parts.

In Canada you cannot get an 80% furnace. If you can in the U.S I would go with that.

A thermostat that talks to your phone will not talk to your phone in (10) years. A replacement thermostat talk to your new phone may not be able to talk to your olde furnace.

In OC and had a 3 year old York swapped out (long story) for a paired Bryant AC/furnace. What a mistake...the Bryant furnace has been crap. It has crapped out all 4 years...pressure switch, touch screen thermostat (not Bryant's fault), flame rollout switch , inducer motor, thermal limit switch have all been replaced under warranty either because of 3 red flashes or 4 red flashes. NextGen bought the installer's contract and also have not been happy with them...having them once want ~$1000 then ~$750 , (~$1500 without warranty!) to replace the inducer motor and pressure switch...seemed like an obvious attempt to get me to believe it wasn't in warranty...had to demand a supervisor in anger. Been trying to experiment with which filter it can handle without throwing 4 red flashes...no way on a 12, iffy on a 9 , so far it's been fine on a 5. Pete

Efiiciency is important but durabilty wins the day (9/10 times) and unless its really inefficient or your fuel/energy cost is outrageous, you can't posssibly make up for the cost of the shortened lifespan on most appliances. Not to mention the hassel of shopping re-educating on current products and moving the appliance in and out. I take my trash to the land fill weekly and the amount of appliances going into those landfills is discusting. IMO just shifting the cost to the consumer.

What are your thoughts about the system that we just purchased. I know that pricing depends on geographical area and we are in the northern suburbs of Philadelphia with about 2,200 square feet. As per your comments, we got rid of the Honeywell thermostat and when I went on to PECO's website they were practically giving away the Nest thermostats so I purchased one for $16, normally $129. We now have a different AC condenser being installed it's a 2.5 ton YORK model YC2E30B21S 14.3 SEER2. Please keep in mind we are in the northern suburbs of Philadelphia so I'm sure price varies depending on geographic location. Thank you:)

Lennox has proprietor parts, making it much more expensive to work on, and their tech support sucks. Overall, the quality no longer stands the test of time. Goodman is a low-end product that if you get 15 years out of it, you're doing great. But the majority of parts are off the shelf, and they are easy to work on. Trane and American standard are just junk. Carrier is a middle of the road product that will get you to 20 years but will need major parts replaced to get you there. None of these are the 5 best furnace brands.

@@gallardo360 Having just bought 2 furnace/ AC systems in the past year ( one for myself and one for my son) I can tell you in today's world they all have different problems. In my opinion, go with a company where you know you will be able to get parts and service. To me Carrier fills that bill. They are also selective on which HVAC companies they will provide their HVAC systems to. They can be pricey but I shopped around. Highest bid was 14 thousand and I got it for 11 thousand.
