I wear my boots for pretty much everything except for working out. And the most versatile Red Wing boot, in my opinion, is the blacksmith. Which is why it's my favorite. I also feel like it's a bit of a tragedy that they aren't talked about nearly as much as the moc-toe and Iron Ranger.

They where supposed to be coming back this year but it got pushed back to 2022. There's not going to be a briar oil slickbut there's a black cherry one that Is 👌👌👌
I own two Beckmans and two Blacksmiths. I think I’m leaning more towards the Beckmans (roccia sole, leather interior, no speed hooks), but I can see why some people would prefer features of the Blacksmiths (better traction, easier break-in, speed hooks). Both are really nice boots. Can’t wait for Beckmans 2022.
I don’t trust any man who feels like he needs to hide his face. Especially when he’s hiding his face with what appears to be an old mans ball sack stretched on his face.. dude just straight looks like he’s a ball sack sniffer. Also mister sack sniffer literally admitted his motive for liking red wings.. it’s the only time he spoke up with any enthusiasm.. it was all about appearance, how it makes him look, how it makes other people think when they look at him… dudes like that are literally what’s gone wrong with the red wing community…and if enough of these tofu eating, testosterone lacking, always seeking validation via shallow superficial routes, creatures of the new age come together, companies like redwing will put quality in the back seat and start making boots that are as superficial as mr ball sniffer. I miss the days when men were men and women were women… after all, that’s what motivated redwing to be boot makers of excellence from their inception.
I bought my Iron Rangers there and CJ was amazing in helping me return a pair with a defect and get me a new pair. He even conditioned them at one point!
Sitting here in my first pair of Red WIngs. A pair of 1907's at that, much thanks to this video. I bought them a little on the small side and I am just 2 days into breaking them in (without the footbed). Can't wait til I get to put that footbed back in and be the happiest I've ever been in a pair of shoes. Thanks for a great video!
1907 are significantly better than the 875s. I own both the 1907 and 875, and although both are amazing moctoe boots, the 1907 is better in various ways. My 2 cents.
@@weedshoes5089wider toebox, and the Norwegian welt comes in handy in snowy situations (come back in to room temp, the ice melts, and the water does not permeate the welt. Aside to that, basically the same boot.
We have a store here in Eastern Massachusetts that sells primarily "imperfects" and factory seconds of Red Wing, Irish Setter, and Chippewa. I picked up a pair of Red Wing 10875 that normally retail for $279 for just $149! They have what I can only describe as "tool marks", and blemishes in the leather. Who cares ? They are boots, and I'll be working in them, anyway. I always take great care to clean and condition my boots, and I know they'll look even better as the years go by.
When you are part of the buying public that needs a wide size, yet folks do not offer wider sizes, it is hard to say that skinny boot is the best, and you block feet guys, go screw yourself. The 8" moc toe. Why? I wear them for work. Three resoles and on to the next pair. I keep three going in rotation. The 3rd pair is getting broken in via caual dress prior to going in the daily work rotation. I am married so not worried of girl shopping in bars.
Model 2406 is the best redwing boot ever made. I’m a union electrical worker. I work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week. My feet would have blisters if I wore the blacksmith. My dress up boots are my heritage moctoes I have had a black pair for over ten years.
Western Oklahoma oil field RW pull on, no laces, steel toed. I’m retired now so I don’t need the steel toed. But I still want RW just to wear, hard, hard to find.
Nothing wrong with the audio Nick. It was a great video and good background music. Now I already own the RW second best and the BEST(875) are on the way..
I became a Red Wing guy about three years ago and haven't looked back. My first two pairs were the Iron Rangers in amber harness and the Moc Toe in navy portage. I was hooked at that point because they are eye catching without being obnoxious and they just feel substantial on your foot. Since then, I have added Iron Rangers in black and ebony leather and Moc Toes in black and copper rough and tough. They look great, I feel great in any of them, but I find I always go back to the Iron Rangers in amber harness - for me, there's no topping the 8111!

I actually separated the foam from the leather insole on my 1907 and will wear them for awhile with just the leather insole before reglueing the foam back on the insole.
I love Red Wing, but in the last few years I've almost only worn Moc Toes., I have the 1907 Copper Rough & Tough, the 875 Oro Legacy, the 8881 Olive Mohave, the 8875 Irish Setter Oro-russet Portage, and the 8849 Black Prairie. And my recent one the new European limited 406 pairs made 8203 Loden Abilene with the white Vibram TC1 outsole with an exclusive (dark-) green Rough-out Leather. But now I'm at the stage in my life (26 years old) where I'm more into the Iron Rangers and looking into the Blacksmiths. I currently own the 8084 Iron Ranger Black Harness, I've worn them for that last 9 months and I love them to bits, but I find a brown boot easier to style. Right now I'm split between buying a 3340 Blacksmith Briar Oil Slich or the 3343 Blacksmith Copper Rough & Tough. What would you guys suggest?
Huh, I had never noticed the 877 has the single piece of leather before. Happy to say that I own, and love, all of the boots in the video, except for the 6-inch moc toe boots. I own the 2927s, the Sawmill in the Oiled Briar, instead.
I had a pair of 1907's and just couldn't break them in. Must have tried over about 2 years and as much as I loved the look of the boot, I just hated wearing them (which really hurt because I so wanted the Redwings to work). Now I wear Lems boulder boots and they are rediculously comfortable and light weight. Might get flamed for this comment here on a redwing video but I'm ok with that
Got 3 pairs of boulder boots in my closet currently. The older Euro size ones are more comfortable than the newer US sizes, but still a super comfortable boot.
@@deaneaxboy // the waterproof ones look amazing, I just haven't pulled the trigger on them yet. I don't "need" waterproof, was concerned about breathability, since I live in the deep south. Thoughts?
@@baldboy800 I live in Brisbane Australia which is a hot and humid climate and I've found them to be just fine. I think it's the light weight that really contributes to this. I worked recently at the very top end of Australia where it is very warm and humid and they were great. As for the waterproofing, I never bought them for that, I just liked the look of them. Within a week of buying I was on a job where it was raining like crazy and they performed great. So my thoughts would be, don't hesitate. In fact I feel like buying a few extra pairs to put in the cupboard in case they stop making them :)
Irish setter Ashbys. I can afford them and they're comfortable out of the box. I'll get some real redwing moc toes eventually but the setters are great.
I own the Blacksmith and just love them. But living in a cold country I find the outer sole to be very slippery during winter. A version with rubber Vibram sole would be my suggestion for the nearly perfect Red Wing boot.
Here in the UK I don't really know how popular Red Wings are. I wear 8864s and they do get comments but as far as I know no one has ever recognised them as Red Wings. that's a bit of a two edged sword because as a new convert to Red Wings thanks to this channel, and others CJ, Rose Anvil and our own Devons Review I want to promote the brand but I also like the idea of them being more exclusive here. Oh, and for me the pair I would of chosen are the 1907s which will likely be my next pair.
before this i wanted to buy 1907 but no size for me.had to buy 9875 irish setter gold russet. maybe later there is a size for me 1907 will continue to buy it without hesitation
I need some help. I'm an NPS Ranger (maintenance division). I work on concrete, grass, dirt; wooded trails, caves; dry land and through the creeks and with chemicals. I currently wear western style Irish Setter boots. They're good for certain things, but not for what I do. I need a rugged boot that has more support for my feet and ankles. I need a good gripping bottom and some water resistance. Do you have any recommendations?
I've been a lifelong Redwing customer and have owned many models of their boots. The company needs to fire the guy in charge of sizing! This year I bought three american made boots from Redwing. 415 for work. 8111 and 875 for casual wear. each pair a different size. A stanard sizing system seems to be a major problem for the company. Great boots makers but not great at measuring.
What is the best heavy duty work boot ….best combination of safety and style , currently I wear the redwing supersole 2.0 and absolutely love it, best work boot I’ve ever worn, I work in a utility company in Canada 🇨🇦
I'm a life long Timberland wearer the $198 dollar ones but this past winter I decided to try the 875 Red wings I almost bought the 1907 maybe this winter. I just wish they could fit a little better I'm a 10.5 and I buy online don't like shopping in person.
I'd say you should just grow a pair and walk into the store to get fitted properly. You only have to do it once and the boots will last for years. The things you wear need to be fitted. Buy every other item online if you want to.
877 is the icon. Cj just isnt a moc toe person anymore lol. Blacksmith is more versatile for sure. But personally I don’t think “versatility” when I hear Redwing. I picture moc toe. Good video
Oro Legacy Moc Toe 875 = Red Wing. It's the gateway drug. Then you get there and you notice how badass the Iron Ranger is so you need a pair of those too. It's the type of boot that instantly adds 5 lbs to your bench press, super masculine. Blacksmith are very forgettable, you can get 1000 mile or Allen Edmonds or a million other boots that look exactly the same. If you want Red Wings then it's Oro moc toes or iron rangers for me
I picked up a pair of those copper rough and tough Blacksmiths about ~7 months ago, in large part thanks to reviews here on Stridewise, and I have to say, I **LOVE** them. I literally wear them every single day unless I'm in shorts. I agree that they're super versatile and subtle, in a good way. I've received multiple compliments on them, something I've never gotten with other shoes or boots. I'm going to pick up a pair of Iron Rangers in black harness before the year is out. While the moc toe may be 'iconic' I just really don't like that style at all.
@@dustingaddis2423 I want a second pair now in another colour. Waiting for another 30% off special though. That way it'll be a surprise what colour I'll end up with.👍🇨🇦. Those Red Wing Sawmills for the winter look quite badass as well!
3:42 I can now vouch for this method, and it is 100 percent wonderful. Adding a little mink oil made the break-in significantly easier, and being able to swap the leather insoles back and forth between my 1907's and Iron Rangers, is absolutely amazing. Just stop lying about the "Norwegian" welt please.
I have the 1907's and Iron Rangers. Want to send the Rangers in and have them dyed all black. Saw some in store today pretty sharp. Rep said Red wing will do for 65.00
Bought Iron Ranger and Moc Toe I will tell you next year which one I like the most....so far it's a neck and neck! PS is like walking in a comfortable Birkenstock!
I wish they would put black soles on some more of these. On moc toes. I got a pair of Danner 8 inch bull run moc toes in tobacco leather black soles. Absolutely beautiful. But redwings are built better. Traditional with leather in soles.
Can somebody help me? In 1992 I think I bought a pair of Red Wing boots that look identical to the 202 only mine had a steel toe. Was there a boot like that that was discontinued or did they just put a steel toe on a pair of 202?
My first Red Wings was a heritage Oxford classic shoe. Still my favorite pair of shoes in black. Then wanted a pair of boots and got to the store decided to get an iron ranger. Just before paying asked for a blacksmith cooper rough and tough. Got them!
No doubt no shoes can be near the red wings but the moc toe which is stitched on the toe box should not open up as we walk it should be built in such a way so stitching would not open up as the shoes start to break in
I wish the Blacksmith was available in Hawthorne Muleskinner in the US. CJ has a beautiful pair he bought in Europe. I "settled" for the IR in Hawthorne, but my Blacksmiths (Copper RT and Charcoal RT) are still my favorites.
I have three pairs of the 877. As a Union Ironworker it's better to have a few pairs of 877's to switch out and maybe a pair with the toes capped for when I'm welding or cutting with a torch a lot.
Iron Rangers have aged so beautifully. They look amazing and are super comfy if walking is not part of the equation. They are amazing on my motorcycle but SO hard on the heel to walk around town. I wish they came with a better insole. They sure look cool though :)
I agree that the Blacksmith is the best and most iconic shoe in the Red Wing Heritage lineup. I own two pair and they are also the best fitting for my foot type. I just want to know when Red Wing is going to offer some new leather choices for the Blacksmith. There are five Iron Ranger choices and six moc toe choices but only three Blacksmith choices. Since it is the same last as the Iron Ranger they should at least offer the same five choices for the model. If you have any insider info for 2024 new releases let us know.
The 8126 Brogue Rangers are my favorite pair of Red Wings. Why? Because they’re rare, sleek, surprisingly versatile and the ones I get the most compliments on. The 8012 Burgundy Munson Ranger would be an honorable mention too. I think it’s Red Wings most beautiful boot ever made.
@@Stridewise I guess I am alone in not liking a wedge sole on a casual boot. They are great for a work boot, but don't look that good. Either way, I'm just glad it exists, cause I love it, it's the best looking boot they make imo
@@Stridewise This list does have 3 moc toes that are barely different from one another. One has a different welt, one is 8 inch, but all are wedge sole moc toes
3:35 makes no sense. If it is molding to your foot wouldn’t it mold with the footbed better? It should not get bigger because your foot is not growing.
What happened to the 8 inch Iron Ranger steel toe work boot? They need an option for 8 inch iron ranger boot. 6 inch feels like I'm wearing a shoe. They are still nice to wear I guess
