The chronograph is, with the exception of the date, the world's most popular complication and one which we have all come across at some point. Similarly, the chronograph is probably also the most widely interpreted function with every type of watch from the most formal to the most rugged offering this option to a customer.
But, if you look back through history, it is actually remarkably easy to see just a handful of watches which have changed and reinterpreted the chronograph. In today's video, join me on a journey back through five of the most influential chronographs from the likes of Omega and Audemars Piguet.
For any questions or business enquiries, please email me at: enquiries@watchchronicler.com

Hmmm, not sure I agree with your Zenith assessment. Historically foundational as one of the first in the automatic chronograph race and also iconic watch. Still running strong today given the latest relaunches. You underestimated it.
@Alex-zr4yl
@Alex-zr4yl 2 года назад
@Anthony Hill yes Anthony, I was referring precisely to those years when zenith contributed to horological history along with other major brands, as you mentioned. That El Primero is one of the most important watches ever made, so the way it was presented is not accurate. I liked the video however, except that bit of course ☺️
@rafayz9033
@rafayz9033 2 года назад
But you have to accept that there was a lot of politics behind it. At the time multiple companies were working on automatic chronographs and Zenith wasn’t even supposed to be first. In a sense, I get what your saying, but given the moves to exclude the speedy and deep star, I get why the zenith was left out
@Alex-zr4yl
@Alex-zr4yl 2 года назад
@@rafayz9033 yeah, i also get your reasoning. However, I’m not sure the point is really who came in first. Who cares in the end, it’s a matter of months. The point is the contribution to horological history. And Zenith must be in the picture in this case

Great list, I didn’t know much about these other than the names. I would have added a bonus selection - the Seiko 7A28-powered models. The first quartz analog chronograph movement is, at least to me, kind of a big deal. But I guess this list isn’t so much about the movements as it is about the overall design. Viewed in that light, those Seikos didn’t break any new ground.

Your are mixing "1st one" and icons Who have influence watch design. Therefore in the list I Will refer to breguet type 20, navitimer, and portuguese for its pure symétry.
