The Tag ‘Monaco’ is probably ‘iconic’. You’d be hard pressed to find an affordable alternative though. The Sinn 904 is a good Navitimer alternative. Interesting video.

The Breitling Navitimer was my first and brief experience with chrono watches. Pretty iconic, but the purchase was far from it. I got it at Costco years ago. Nothing stranger than spending 5k on one item at Costco....lackluster to say the least lol. It’s gone now, no chrono in my collection currently. Square G is the closest I’ve got. I’ll eventually get a speedy but I’m not in a hurry. Speaking of Costco, last time I went they had a Rolex for $18k....yeah Costco 🤷🏼‍♂️

disappointed that the first alternative for the El Primero wasn't the El Primero powered Ebel 1911. it ticks all the checkboxes that you want, and some you didn't even know you wanted. 1) it can be found for very, very reasonably prices; 2) it's powered by the EP; 3) fashion ICON weared by Don "Sonny Crockett" Johnson. you can get his watch, but you'll never be as cool as Sonny Crockett; 4) made by Ebel, which played a rather important in the role of saving the EP movement together with Mr Vermot 5) it looks like nothing else out there so you'll be cooler than average since you mentioned the Hamilton as an alternative to the type XX, the Hanharts pilot chronos are even better alternatives ;) the likelihood that the Speedmaster was an "homage" to a Rodania of all things, is about as likely as the Fifty Fathoms being an homage to the Zodiac Seawolf ;) folks at Omega probably just saw the dial in a parts catalogue and thought it would fit their plans for a sporty "professional" chrono or something like that. people for some reason forget that the watch industry back then worked very, very differently to how it does now. the swiss, that is. back then, they were pretty much exactly like the microbrand scene today. next-to-no inhouse manufacturing, and the vast majority of work done by outside contractors (really apparent even within the Speedy scene alone, as for example the CB cases being more valued than the more often used HF ones), often as far up the ladder as Patek Philippe a good alternative for the Navitimer is... the "officially licensed" Navitimer "replica" by Sinn with a whole story of its own :D and nowadays they put in the LJP chrono with a Column Wheel so it's technically "nicer" than most automatic Navitimers pre B01 :P or get an older one with a Lemania 1873 so you get a legit Navitimer with a legit Speedy movement. 2 icons for the price of one! :D and staying on the mechanical side of things, Hamilton recently released a whole series of "slide rule" watches (3 hander, gmt, chrono) which could easily fill the Navitimer hole in your life for a cheaper price... if you have the wrist real-estate to pull it off, that is :) one that's "Iconic" among watch nerds but not in the mainstream, and more akin to being like the EP in that it's "movement-centric": the Longines 13ZN/30CH (and since it didn't really have an "iconic representative" like some others, the "alternative" is pretty much "any modern chrono that looks like it's from the 40/50ies :D... though some designs were reissued by Longines itself ;)). in house chrono movement manufacture back then was almost unheard of at that level. it's also regarded as the best manual wind chrono movement by many the Universal Geneve Nina Rindt Compax could qualify. not as widely know, but iconic nonetheless. the Enicar Jim Clark maybe? Eberhard extra fort. the (recently reissued) Aquastar Deepstar worn by the Custeaus (with the alternative being rather uniquely... plenty of vintage chronos! namely, the big, wide Rotary Aquaplunge family of chronos) plenty of Heuers are definitely iconic. Autavias, Bundeswhers etc... and plenty of modern alternatives to boot! sorry for the overly long text :D
