I have lived in Washington my entire life. For me everything you said is 100% truth! The crime is what gets me. I live in the country, i have homeless next door to me. I dont really mind much except when my eggs and produce from my garden started to disappear. If asked i would have happily shared. We have had 1 truck stolen, another attempted to be stolen. I went to the grocery store the other day and had to calmly let a very unstable person who was acting aggressively know that i do exercise my carry rights. 2 people have been beat and robbed at that store alone. People walk in and just take whatever they want and leave. There are no consequences, and thats why they do it. This leaves the rest of us to pay for the theft. I cant afford it anymore. Im heading to Tennessee in spring.
Yes, we live in a cold civil war in Washington State. Seattle and Portland are now equally insane with depraved leftists, groomers, criminals, addicts, and Satanists. The rest of us in smaller cities and rural areas still identify with old school constitutionalism. The crevasse is much too wide to even enable a rational discussion. It's a waste of time attempting to reason with Marxist ignorants and fools. So yes, the Seattle freeze is now the Arctic permafrost.
My husband and I both were born and raised in WA. In 2019 we fled and moved to TX for a year. After realizing that property taxes aren’t much better there and with the influx of transplants we decided to make one more move. We ended up in Kentucky a year ago, best decision we ever made. Now we’re on 15 acres with a 3 acre stocked pond. Being out in the country and part of a very small community has been a blessing. We’ll most likely stay here, we love it!
@You Tube we were in a city on the outskirts of Dallas. It was a pretty nice area with a higher medium income with very low crime rates. But the traffic was insane. I checked out the county website and found plans for future subdivisions. It blew my mind how many houses were gonna be built in the next 2-3 years. That was another huge reason for getting out of there. I think all the transplants are making Texas towns too overpopulated.
Welcome to Ky.! I have 2 sisters in Seattle. I grew up in Pittsburgh. Moved to Ky. in 1980. love it here! I lived in Seattle back in 1979,80. Back when Seattle wasn't that bad yet!
Not defending Texas but the trade off is no income taxes but remember all cities in Texas are blue and that explains your property taxes so the further away from cities the cheaper the taxes
@Omni Thanks for sharing your experience! We left Germany and immigrated to Nova Scotia about 12 years ago. It has gotten quite bad over the past years and taxes and regulations have become almost unbearable (very high cost of living and very low wages). But I now fear that there is no running away anymore in all the western countries and that we are all oppressed but the propaganda machine is telling is constantly how good we have it. Now you are saying Kentucky? If it wasn't so difficult to immigrate to the US we would seriously consider checking out the US. I heard of some states where you dont need a building permit? I am so tired of the bs here.
Five generation washingtonian. Moved this year to MO. I've heard people say " your abandoning the rest of us." I think rather I'm rewarding the Midwest with my taxes and productivity and I and my family will in turn be able to be rewarded with keeping more of the fruit of my labor. It's natural consequences. When a handful of cities rule the entire West Coast while six sevenths of that area is rural and conservative, the game is fixed and it's time to take my family elsewhere.
@@jayessig8653 I still live in Graham wa. Off Kapowasin hwy .kinda in the outskirts on 4 Akers and they now want to build a SeaTac type airport out where I live . Yep it's time to move . Too many blue people are moving out here where mostly red people live .
I live in Spanaway, WA... just south of Tacoma... actually on the south end of Spanaway. You are so right about all the reasons you left here. I am 73 and retired from teaching. I feel I am too old to relocate and my son lives across the Narrows Bridge near Gig Harbor, so I can't really move out of state. It's good that you are making this move while you are young. The hardest part about us moving was leaving all our family behind. We are very fortunate to have made this decision at such a young age and before we had kids.

I know places change over time, HOWEVER, there are still things you can recognize and it just seems to be that it is turning into something unrecognizable and not for the better either.
I lived and grew up in West Seattle, it was always a great place to live until the mid to late 80's. Things started going down hill after that. Heavy traffic, higher taxes, cost of living and like you said lack of community. After I got discharged from the Navy in 1968 I bought my first house on Alki Point for $117,000. Taxes, cost of commuting, parking downtown and politics drove me to the suburb of Kent. When I turned 54 I bought property in southern Oregon and built my retirement house on a ten acre mountain site. I'm now facing the same political bureaucracy only worse than before. Rising crime, risk of wildfires, loss of 2nd amendment Constitutional rights and State's liberal over control have me considering selling my log home and relocating to a more conservative state. Kudos to you for taking the jump and relocating. We've looked for property with acreage and you are right we can't find anything comparable with what we have at a reasonable price. I wish you and your family well in your new location from an ex Washingtonian.
The 80's was when D majority started, and they've been in majority now for over 40 years, the R's are unable to stop anything going through because there isn't enough of them, and not one D ever votes with R's. Yet, they still put the blame solely on the R's for the states many problems, when D's have been in charge for 40+ years. And some people believe it too.
I moved to huntsville al. Love living in a red state. They tell you when you get here don't vote blue. Everyone loves the cheaper taxes and housing. Quarter of a million people and I'm not missing anything except fresh oysters
We're in a suburb of Portland, been here about 5 years. It was nice when we got here, but it's no longer nice. The crime, costs and culture have changed so quickly. This is not a good place for kids. We're looking to move to the deep south this spring as well. Our family needs community and we can't get it up here.
Just happened across your video today. I live in Washington state just a handful of miles from where you came from. Older individual looking ahead at the future and realizing that even if my house is paid for, I could potentially lose it based off the taxes and not being able to pay them. What a shame to work so hard all your life and then be nickled and dimed to the point that one could lose their home. Other points you shared, I also agree with. Not to shame or be super negative, but, this is what voting left does. Higher taxes and goverment tries more and more to make excuses why they need to tax more. Even if it's not YOUR personal beliefs.... its the masses in those states. And it's sad to see good states completely being gutted by bogus politics and blatant lies.
I live in Lacey & my husband is trying to convince me to move to Tennessee. We’re both retired, so it’s not that difficult for us to uproot. I grew up in Shelton but have been in the Olympia area for 20 ish years. The homelessness problem is so bad here. We are renters and my neighborhood is full of empty houses. It doesn’t make sense & it breaks my heart.
I am a native Washingtonian. You're correct on your reasons for leaving Wa. It's sad as someone who was here who grew up here before the 70's. My family and natural beauty is what keeps me here. I keep hoping by fighting to make our state what it used to be our state has hope.
We left WA and moved to Homer, Alaska in June. Best move ever. After being a Washingtonian for 54 years, we witnessed how much it had deteriorated, and we moved for all of the reasons that you mentioned.
I lived in Ketchikan off and on for 16 years! Back and forth to Tacoma! I'm afraid that Ketchikan is about to be like western Washington? Maybe not the crime and homelessness? Too many Liberal woke Commies moving in! Thinking about moving to Anchor Point and hanging out with my old buddy Joe! Retirement is coming soon and I'm not going to be able to afford it here.
Well we’re not going to get them unless people figure out they need to have families…make more children! When people turn to faith instead of basing everything on the financial bottom line, that’s when prosperity really happens.

I am a Seattle native, lived my entire life in Washington State, with the last 35 years in Spokane. Hubby and I finally could take no more and moved to Texas this past summer. I am heartsick about moving out of the PNW, miss the mountains every day, but could not find affordable land in Idaho or Montana. Oregon and Colorado were never a consideration, and wouldn’t really look at Wyoming or Utah. We moved for all the reasons you listed, and it’s devastating to see the deterioration of a once beautiful and lively place to live knowing some relatives are still there and are living with current conditions. “Sense of community” is lost. I left CA to small town in IL - thinking it would be tight-knit and people caring. Has been MUCH worse than the massive neighborhood I came from in CA. Honestly I think social media has turned people selfish and narcissistic. So happy you found a great place and is inspiring me to do the same. In a bad state (IL) for taxes and chaos right now.

Would leave here in a quick second if I could afford the whole procedure. 1st pick… Mexico. 2nd pick Tennessee which is also now expensive from all the liberals moving there
I am 50 now, I’m from a small town in southwestern Va about an hour from TN line. I feel like the sense of community has changed tremendously from when I was growing up and it barely exits anymore which is sad. Politics has been dividing people and continues to do so and I’m not sure why because people used to be able to discuss and agree to disagree and still be good but not nowadays. It’s you disagree,‘it’s like you have the plague 🤦♀️🤣 It’s nice to see more of the younger generation getting back to the basics with homesteading. It’s not easy but so very rewarding. Unfortunately, this is happening all across America. It's only a matter of two to four years before it's all taxed so high people can't own a home anywhere and that is part of Agenda 2030 which is part of the one world govt tactics to have everything owned by government or big corporate entities rewarding on Y the elite financially.
I've been living in Washington Seattle area for the past 6 years. It was a big step up compared to Milwaukee Wisconsin. The cost of living has skyrocketed in the past 6 years. Some of it due to new people moving here but also rent moratorium made a lot of landlords sale their rental property because they were not getting paid while still paying high property taxes. I didn't mind the winters months so much with all the rain because I use to travel for months at a time during the winter months. But after Covid being stuck in the house for months at at time and I couldn't fly anywhere and most businesses couldn't even be open, I am moving to Florida once my lease is up in 2 years.
Yup,I got my family out after the first run of covid. I was done with the direction the politics was going. We moved to Arkansas, back to freedom again. The crazy thing is we moved from a state that was pro-abortion to a state that is Pro-life and its amazing!!!

Born and raised in Washington state. I would love to leave but my husband is dead set on staying put. I hate what my state has turned into! Inslee needs to go for starters.
I live on a 4 acre homestead near Portland Oregon and the way we got around high prop taxes was to look for a property zoned exclusive farm use EFU.. The house is 4000 sf and this years property tax was $3,900. If we lived in a house this size in town our taxes would be closer to $10,000
Little Brother..this video was sooo Fnkg good, I dont have words. Forgive the long post. I am from a small mountain town in SW Colorado, and moved to Vancouver WA in 1998, for work. I retired as a police officer from there. I saw the beautiful state turn to pure shit before my eyes for the very reasons you outlined. I have to tell you that for 26 yrs of age, you are so far ahead of the curve, it is incredible. I am 64 yrs of age to give perspective. I retired in 2005 and got crushed in the 2008-11 recession and lost $1.2M in equity in rental properties. This forced me to return to police work in OR. Even worse than WA.. I left police work in 2013 and did private contracting in Mexico, Ecuador, and Haiti. In 2017 I moved permanently to Colombia. (I married a Colombian woman years ago) I am completely happy with great weather year round and its about 20% of what I paid to live in WA. I survived in WA. Here...I live like a lesser king. I agree mostly about what you said. Glad to hear that others feel the same. About the sense of community, I am from Fall City, WA, neighbors with Carnation and been here since 1986. I've seen the unravelling of our communities and politics plays a huge part of that but also they have been injecting large numbers of ethnic groups and it is not the melting pot that so many politicians like to tout. Everyone stays to themselves and clings to their own group identities and there is nothing really that unites us. This is just another big reason why the sense of community is disappearing here, I believe.
I grew up in Walla Walla, WA in the 70s and 80s and it was amazing....although I didn't appreciate it as much in my youth. I moved to the Portland area in the mid 80s in my 20s and it was actually a very cool place. I moved near Mt Hood in 1990 and lived in a historic log cabin on an acre for 30 years. 2020 came and changed everything for us. Our community had already been changing drastically over the last 20 years but I knew I couldn't stay there when the mandates started and people that I knew and loved for 30 years treated me like I was a leper. It made me so sad that I had to move. In 2021 we bought an 8 acre homestead in NW Arizona. I love it so much and the community is great but I miss my adult children horribly. I worry about their future in Oregon. I'm near my 80 year old parents now and am happy that we can spend more time together because I know it's short. We've all had so much to deal with the last 2.5 years. I pray for humanity every day. 🙏
I'm a real estate broker in WA. I sold my childhood pastor's house and helped move them to Somerset, KY. My parents are looking at KY as a potential and I'm currently looking at the Clarksville, TN area because my other buddy from WA moved there. Politics, taxes, and firearm rights are the reasons we're looking to move a well.

Great video, we moved to Oregon a few years ago and it’s no better. Tons of crime and homeless people it’s over priced and we can so relate to seasonal depression!! The neighborhood is constantly being tagged, it is a concrete jungle! We are seriously thinking about moving too. We love the country and you make it look amazing, thanks for the insight and push. We left Oregon for many of the same reasons, my husband was born in Washington but moved to Oregon when he was 5. Together we lived there for 35 years.. moved to Oklahoma spring of 2021 and rebuilding our farm here.. dont regret that move one bit, we love it here!
I agree with everything you said. I live in washington and have for over 30 years. It's absolutely true about the politics. There is no middle road. Everyone is extreme. I'm a logger and I have been kicked off job sights because I don't want to banter and or listen to politics all day. It's like religion and everyones views are shoved down my throat constantly. I just want to go to work and go home safely.

I agree with most everything you shared. I lived in Washington for 50 years. King and Pierce Counties as well as lived just east of Yakima for 4 years. I read all of the comments within the last 4 days. I loved Washington. It is absolutely beautiful Eastern and Western. Unfortunately it's the 2 highest populated counties and their cities that make up all the rules and decisions for the entire state and are very corrupt and political. They control the tax base and policies. There are a lot of wonderful little communities scattered around. Eastern washington is like completely different world. I grew up in West Seattle, my parents moved us to Federal way/Kent are at age 13. It was still rural at that time in the mid 80's. At age 13 me snd my friends would catch the metro bus to downtown Seattle every weekend to go to Pike place Market and the Seattle Center.. for concerts and Laser Shows. Like the old Pink Floyd "The Wall" Laser show at the science center. Riding the metro bus back home at 1am. It was safe back then. Maybe you saw a homeless person... they were never a threat. Christmas time in Seattle was beautiful and a family tradition for decades. Some of you older folks may remember the Seattle I'm describing. Then the 90s came and either it all the people from California and there ideology and political views. Everything has continued to go downhill every since. Seattle became a sanctuary City for the homeless and drug addicted. Breaks my heart to visit Seattle now 💔...all the deniers can continue to deny 😔. You probly haven't lived in washington that long and never saw it when you could go there safely as a child and spend the day. Now it's sadly just to dangerous. I left in July... so more power to you and enjoy Kentucky 😉. There are many beautiful places in this once great country of ours. But people need to open their eyes and accept when policies are just bad and aren't based in common sense. Lawlessness is a huge problem and forgetting we are a Republic not a Democracy and have a Constitution find a community that still Respects the Constitution and that we are One Republic under God, supports law, and Freedom. Remembers our nations history. Puts Principles before Personalitys. These communities are out there. You did the right thing by moving to Kentucky. I moved from KY to WA State because WA was where my husband was from and every time I visited in the early 2000s I fell more and more in love with the state. Well after almost 20 years it's time to go. Your reasons for moving hit the nail on the head exactly. High taxes, but never any road repairs, they just got worse and worse. Community is a big deal. We started our Homestead last year in Central PA. Not alot of crime, very helpful people. Some nosey people but still nice. Our barn recently burnt down and all my neighbors were ready to lend a hand to clean and rebuild. I got the neoghbor out at 8 pm to open the feed store to get me some feed for my animals. I look forward to following your journey.
I live down in Vancouver, Washington and it’s gotten so bad here and your five reasons are absolutely spot on. The politics have gotten so extreme left and if you don’t agree you’re labeled a terrible person and can lose your job these days. People just don’t look out for each other anymore. I miss the days where we could have different opinions and still get along.

I'm from Ellensburg Washington and as a contractor I never got shut down I built mini storage units in Snoqualmie valley and never had problems with anyone. I run a Booth at farmers markets and the average people are good people no matter where you are it doesn't matter if you're in Seattle or on the Eastside.
Coming from someone that has lived in southern Washington (Vancouver) and northern Oregon (Portland) all my life, this was very well articulated and 100% accurate. I wish it wasn't, but Washington (and Oregon) have turned into figurative and literal dumpster fires. Very sad.
I retired from PSNS. I planned to move to Poulsbo, but then I saw an article in the local paper about the Poulsbo city council. They announced their primary goal was to establish a homeless camp using funds the state was making available to all cities. That's when I determined we needed to FLEE Washington. I went online to reserve two U-Haul trucks to move our stuff out of state. The U-Haul guy said he was surprised I could get both trucks because "everyone's leaving Washington."

Just sold the old house (which I bought from them) in '21, we'd never move back to Kitsap Co. in fact we're leaving Oregon. Shame 6 counties in both states run the place. Hopefully the folks in the other 30 counties here in Oregon stop supplying food, lumber and commerce to the special 6.
I felt like sense of community is changing almost everywhere. Maybe, people especially younger generations are too much into social media. We lost abilities to communicate face to face and sharing a meal even on special occasions, everything is measured by money.
Perhaps, but what I know for sure is that folks here are so much more rude than anywhere I have ever lived. The sense of 'everyone should look out for me and provide for me) is overwhelming at times.
I’m also a refugee from there… we choose Tennessee. It’s been a breath of fresh air getting out of the Seattle area. The politics of the area were always weird, but the COVID tyranny was too much, we had to leave. The cost of living has been nice as well, warmer weather and warmer people has been great too.
I was born and raised in Washington state and lived in western Washington all my life. I had reached my limit in 2020 and moved to Idaho. I will never go back to Washington state. The freedom in Idaho is unbelievable.
Retired Vietnam vet on 5 acres in Ford, WA. All I can say is DITTO!!!! To every point young man. I'm single & in my 70's & think about another place to go and don't know where to finish this life up. Glad you and your wife had the courage to step out. Even retired, I sure identify with your sense of community and the quality of life. Retired, paid for home in small town MS suits my wife and I just fine. Am looking to begin gardens to raise and can food. Probably not raising animals. Getting along with people who disagree and caring about each other is good for everybody. Keep enjoying your new place and new neighbors.
It's not just houses, apartments are expensive too. It's sad we have had our apartment for 10 years and we paid during Covid every month even early and when Inslee removed the amount rent could go up our rent went up 200 dollars. I think this was their way to make up for those who didn't pay. That is why after my middle child graduates this year we are already thinking about moving to Texas where my parents live. This state is done. We live in Auburn.
I agree with pretty much everything you have said. We recently moved from Washington (sedro-woolley) although our situation was a bit different. Having reached retirement age, we sold our very tiny home on a small lot in town for an outrageously high amount, moved to the high desert in New Mexico and paid cash for a very nice modular home on a half acre. The property taxes will only put is back a couple hundred a year. Although New Mexico is known for high crime, we have settled in a small, remote community and we are very happy with the friendliness of our neighbors and how most everyone we encounter will take the time to stop and visit while out for a walk, in the grocery store etc. --- Good for you, taking your life seriously and making real beneficial life changes! @@dudleydoright2706 Never seen any snakes (I know they are out there though) here or any other desert regions I've lived in in the past. That includes motorcycle riding out in the open country. The bugs are a little different but not really a problem. The mosques in Woolley this past year were pretty bad. We are about a mile and a quarter in elevation so the stereotypical desert image that may come to mind isn't accurate. Averaging 278 sunny days (that includes winter time with snow on the ground) is pretty nice. I'll be planting a garden this spring now that I have some land to do it. We all have different likes, needs and abilities. Plenty of places across this nation to choose from! :)
Thats awesome that you got out of Sedro. I grew up there, but moved to the east side of the state in 08. It's more conservative on this side, however, rapidly deteriorating. We'll see what happens! I don't have a key to their closet, I just want to feel good and get back to working without as much pain. I'm a rare Washington native and feel the same as you, Maybe a little more conservative. Things really changed when The Californians moved up here and brought their real estate and politics That they were running from with them. I'd move too, but can't get away from the water, I sail.
I left Washington state last year after 49 years. Born and raised in Seattle. I also moved to Kentucky and it's the best decision I have ever made. Small town central Kentucky is peaceful, affordable and friendly and no more traffic nightmares and homeless encampments everywhere. Was able to buy a house with all cash, as it was about a third of what my Everett house went for and much cheaper property taxes. Loving Kentucky. Good luck Washington, life is better elsewhere.
I am getting out of Washington State this Spring. The Democrats are crushing the working class. There is zero help for the mentally ill. The Health care system is collapsing. Drugs, crime and homelessness is critical. Taxes are terrifying. People stay in their houses and you feel isolated. They are openly hostile towards the churches. It is hard to find skilled workers when you have issues arise with your house. It rains most of the year.
We are leaving the suburbs as well. We are staying in Ohio, but going to southern Ohio for our primary residence. Everything you are saying resonates. We also have a 200 acre farm in eastern Kentucky. We didn’t take up residence there because it’s too far away from medical care for our fragile kiddos. But…. Being in southern Ohio makes the trip to visit that farm a lot quicker now. Just found your channel. Looking forward to more videos.
YEP YEP YEP! As a 45 yr resident of Tacoma and many other cities in Wa I can absolutely support this sentiment! I live in Lakewood WA, tried to get my senior Mom to move in Sept last year, she couldn't leave her house of 45 yrs 😭 hence stuck here n HATING IT! Saw this coming years ago n had planned to be outta here never to return but family kept me here 😭
Can't even believe I found this!! I worked at Snoqualmie casino, then moved to the Olympic peninsula, bought a house. Our taxes are so high!! Everything is so high! People are not friendly and they're is so much crime and homeless coming to the peninsula. I've been out here for about 8 years now and so much changed so fast within the last few years. It's insane. I do not recommend moving here, visit yes, but move here...I wouldn't. It's beautiful, but you can't even enjoy the outdoors without paying an arm and a leg for all the permits you need. Plus the price of gas just to get somewhere. Politics are crazy here too, I feel like we are so restricted with so many things in so many ways. I love this video. Thank you.
Ashlyn and I have gone to a few outdoor activities here in Kentucky and when we leave we say "man if this was in WA someone would be profiting off it (i.e. the local Government). We have something called the Natural Bridge, its a beautiful Rock structure that was natural formed. People are always shocked to hear that there's no restrictions... No railings... no signs saying "dont jump" and not one person has fallen off or died here... Now if this was in WA they would have major restrictions and probably close it down.
Although I can relate for some of the reasons you moved, find myself undecided to move out of state. I live in Snohomish, Washington myself but have traveled many places and have found the Northwest to be the best all-around state as far as climate. No extreme weather for the most part. You are right, the cost of living is a huge problem that is getting worse. As for politics, whether you're left,right, or somewhere in between... we should be paying attention to what our leaders are doing and try to have our say,it is important !
I found you and subscribed today.I also had to move from my home state of Wisconsin because of the same reasons you bring up,We moved to NW Missouri and really couldnt be happier.I paid off my house in 5 years and Am a small business owner and do quite well,The community I live in is very tight together and that is a good feeling.
As a permaculturist who feeds people, I agree with you on most points. We are in the process of purchasing a small farm outside of Olympia because our current property has too many people who care only about themselves around it. They damage things we use in commons (private dirt road for example) and expect others to fix it. We did fix the road until 18 months ago, when we decided to move. People complained about our birds (had to dispatch), our gardens, destroyed the ditches that drained run off to the creek completely swamping our place (which is steeply sloped so that's a lot of water) . Since we've put in the time to repair the soil we've had two springs pop up. Won't control their dogs. Argh So we are moving into an area designated agriculture. Talked with the neighbors about our plans and all but one is doing similar before buying, so a rooster or live stock guardian will not be reported to the municipality. If we do get reported, so long as we are not creating biohazard overstocking or some such silliness, those that gripe will have to work at getting us in trouble instead of the "neighbors don't like it, so you must stop". Instead, they get "you wanted to live in farm county, this is what happens in farm country. Cope!" But it took us 18 months and three fully employed off site with well paying jobs to get it. Good thing we are setting up a multigenerational situation. Yes we found a unicorn.
It sounds like Olympia will suit you and your family much better! We were looking around Chehalis area when we were thinking of staying in Washington State.
@@ThePasturedHomestead I love Lewis County people down there are still pretty good but up North the closer you get to the government state workers the more belligerent people are in the more BS people give you just for being there. I'm right on the Lewis County border during covid Thurston County gave me nonsense about being able to build on my place I waited till they locked everything down slam the house up in a month without permits and told them Bite me.. It's pretty here but the government makes me want to call it the pathetic Northwest here
That is wonderful! I moved to SW WA a few months before CoVD hit for similar. My daughter and her fam wanted to homestead and my experience plus 3rd income to get the land made it at least possible. Then wham, housing bubble, daughter's job loss, massive tax spikes, new mandates that resulted in homeschooling,... that dream died. Now I am stuck. We've permied the yard, but have maxxed out here. Chasing off junkies and drunks has no appeal, but we can't afford anything else here. Since I am a teacher, nearing 60, and lose retirement every time I move, I can't just up and take myself elsewhere. Geuss that makes me a wee bit jealous but happy you found a great spot.
I'm a 5th generation Californian, and all the reasons you listed have my husband and I looking to move from California. The one difference for us is weather. We're in Bakersfield, so we get 6 months of very hot weather every year, up to 115° I get that same depressed feeling in the summers here, probably from spending so much time indoors. It's so sad seeing the state I love turn to garbage. I'm a new subscriber. I'll definitely look at your past videos to see if you have any tips for choosing a new state. We plan on moving in 5 years when my husband can take early retirement, and we are trying to narrow it down. You did an excellent video on explaining the reasons you chose to move.
Born in central Washington, lived in Seattle Are for 10 years. Moved back to central Washington as Covid hit. The difference between the two is astounding.
I live in Washington, but we have a very different perspective - from the East side. I lived on the west side for 5 years, and that's all I could tolerate because I'm "solar powered". Weather, crime, cost of home ownership/rent, community, politics - yup... they all sucked. Here on the east side - 300 days of sunshine in a dry climate, 4 seasons, lakes so clean you can see the bottom at over 30 ft depth, and epic scenery. I don't live "in town", as well as many of the people I know - so our experience with crime is different. No homelessness nearby, nobody risking getting shot for trespassing, strong sense of community among neighbors, and politics are checked at the door if they clash. Property taxes? Yeah... but no state income tax... so there's that. Our roads are good, and they plow/de-ice them with a fervor when there is so much as a hint of slick conditions. Even though my "town" has three stops signs and no traffic lights, we have 100mb fiber internet and stupid-cheap clean, reliable hydroelectric power. Washington can suck for the very reasons you listed, but it has some perks not always available elsewhere.
I live in Washington State in a rural area and love the hiking. The state has so many beautiful hikes and since this is my passion I'm trying to stay here but who knows what the future holds. I am in my sixties so I have maybe a good 20 years left statistically so I will likely stay put. I too don't like the property tax. I agree with you my taxes are three times the price in 20 years. I look forward to a housing market crash to lower my taxes. Since I'm debt free my biggest bill is property tax.I am glad my house is paid for. I recommend anyone wanting to stay here to move to east side of Washington away from the cities. I am quite familiar with Carnation and it is being annexed into the city so property prices and taxes have skyrocketed. Politics is destroying America especially the West Coast. Fires have made the summers suck for hiking but I am constantly on the move to find hiking where there's no smoke. Good on you for finding a place you can call home. I am quite familiar with Kentucky as I grew up on a 172 acre farm in southern Ohio and spent a lot of time and have relatives in Kentucky. Good luck!!!
Man I feel for you, seems to be the same consensus on the whole West Coast, I've lived in Washington my whole life and things are getting way out of hand from left-wing lawmakers. King county is as bad as it gets! Been thinking about moving to Montana.
I left coastal Washington for Arkansas over a year ago for pretty much the same reasons. The only I miss is the fishing, but not enough to ever return.
I want to move out of Washington so bad, but my wife refuses to leave her parents, who should move as well, btw. We live in Snohomish and it's politics and taxes have driven so many good people away and our town has changed from a beautiful small town with a great sense of community to an "us vs. them" situation and I hate it. You've really got a nice place there. Congratulations and I hope it is everything you ever wanted.

My wife is Idaho born, Washington raised. I took her away during my 3 years in the Army. So upon injury im Afghanistan and further aggravation of such upon return, I figured the right thing to do was bring my wife home. Especially since during our move we had our first child at not quite 6 months old. We lived there for 6 years before we moved to SC. It turned out to not be what we expected. We looked at Appalachian TN with a house big enough for the family and at minimum 10 acres. Every time we looked at a place the door would close for varying reasons. The wife spotted this place here in KY and I took a look at it. It meshed up so well, I didn't consult my wife (as she found it, I knew ehe already liked it); so I put an offer in. 3-4 months later we were the happy owners of a gorgeous 24 acres!
I'm 70 years old and my grandparents settled in Washington in the early 1900's. My oldest granddaughter went to the same highschool as HER grandparents. I never thought I would leave. Five generations here but with prices I will be homeless in probably one year. In a senior mobile home park, rent going up every year, AND I still have a mortgage and will have to let my home because social security can't keep pace.😢
My husband and I are coming up on 1 yr since we left Washington State. We lived there over 30 years and never thought we would have to move. The homeless situation is out of control largely due to drugs where we lived. Tent cities with needles everywhere. Property crime has skyrocketed. Downtown became a place most people would not shop due to violence. We have seen violent protests the city burned down by the homeless and we finally felt enough was enough. We no longer felt safe. Plus many reasons you listed cost of living, politics. My son and his family moved to Kentucky and live on a horse ranch where they rescue horses.

@Patti Trevino Kind of the same story for my family. We grew up outside of Denver, I joined the army in 09 and originally got stationed in Colorado Springs. In 2014 I got stationed elsewhere and we just knew we would probably never go back. Settled in central KY just before covid was ever a thing. The people sound like banjos but has definitely been a good experience.
I moved from California to the greater Ozarks area for the same reason. The house my grandpa paid in full for 15K is now valued at 1.3M and the county wants that tax money. Other side of town we inherited an empty quarter acre next to ranches, the city won't let us have live stock on it. Million dollar price tag to build an approved home on it. 3K rent for a 750 square foot house. Extreme lockdowns and people are pack in like sardines. 7 adults in a one bedroom apartment across the street from my house. I'm still not homesteading but atleast I don't feel trapped anymore. Hoping to homestead in a few years when the house gets paid off

I am in WA not too far from Carnation (Snohomish) been here 20 years , my Daughter, her hubby and grandkids are looking to Move to Montana sometime in the future , but all has to fall into place to make that happen. (Job ) We are elderly now but they won’t leave us behind. We would make the move with them. . POLITICS, & TAXES. I've grown to detest it for every reason you've stated - smh, it's become a crime ridden cesspool. I was noticing the space and structures as you walked and spoke; beautiful. I was born in tacoma general in 58. At that time orchard st was two lane country road. It is now basically short of a freeway. Same issue in all of pugitopolous. Rapid unplanned growth. No real infrastructure, just install more traffic lanes mentality. Should have had decent rail years ago. I left tacoma thirty years ago. About the time rangers shot out with gang members.

We moved out of Washington in July...I was born and raised there , all my family lives there.....I never want to go back there ever...Im 62 years old and dont really know anyone here but love it already!!
And by the way, my husband has a good friend who serves on the Seattle police force. His wife serves as well. They are both well over 20 year veterans of the force. They have both handed in their paperwork and are retiring at the end of this year, with a house, already being built in Texas for far less, and they both have gainful employment waiting for them. He has warned us that the force is down by half and there are still many retirement requests in process. That means the force could be down to just 25% of its original complement. He also said that many of the criminal activities. Are on the increase, including more violent crime. The officers that remain our fit to be tied. They are not appreciated and are having to work 72 hour shifts and forced to provide coverage for events on top of that. I cannot imagine being a Seattle cops wife right now. I'd be so angry and honestly ready to give up what I have to ensure family stability and the life of my husband or wife. That is probably to me in the long run of gravest concern. He warned us that a lot of the activity in Seattle is spilling out into other towns and areas, including ours and we're about 45 minutes from Seattle. It is time to leave.
I agree... The crime is really spilling out into the rest of the towns. Its sad to see, once safe, towns being fled with theft and crime. After covid/Chop/Chaz im not shocked that a lot of Seattle police officers are retiring... I would be.
It’s crazy how everyone is moving here and the ones that have lived here are wanting to leave. The homeless situation is out of control in Eastern WA. I’m in Moses Lake and it’s turned into a dump.

I'm a 6th generation Washingtonian and we're looking to leave and move on to grow with a good, CHEAPER, caring community. I'm sad to say my mum wouldn't go with me. I don't want to leave her 😔 and that's what's keeping us here still.

I left in early June for S.C. The scam is the reason. 99.9% of the people I interacted with were just the worst. Terrible, terrible people. Night and day difference from there to here. It is bizarre from my point of view as folks here were not touched by the scam anywhere close as bad as Washington. They cannot understand what happened and how bad it is. This concerns me as I am worried the folks here will get sucked in and spit out when the next scam inevitably appears. It's almost like people do not have a choice and just wait for their turn. Sad.
I am afraid of that as well but it was interesting to see the reaction from people in this area of the country toward covid lockdowns. This makes me hopeful. At least in Kentucky lockdowns ended very very early on whereas in Washington they lasted much longer. People out here are more willing to fight for what they believe.
As a long time resident of Washington I couldn’t agree with you more. Your home in Kentucky looks beautiful but for all your reasons and more I’m opting to leave the states for good. Spain probably. Just better in all ways. Climate, cost of living, healthcare, relaxed atmosphere, safety, etc. And easy access to the rest of Europe which I love 😊
I’m from WA state. I just moved out and relocated to TX. I have lived many states throughout my 20’s. It’s a beautiful state but I agree with everything you dare saying.
As a Washingtonian I sure can relate. I’m in eastern Washington and it hardly rains at all which most people don’t know that are from out of state. I’m in the great northern desert in Yakima. If I were young like you I’d leave too, especially because you were from King county and prices/taxes/homelessness are astronomical. Good on you for making the move. Your farm looks beautiful and I see so much more opportunity for a fullness in your life. I’m old now and am worried about property tax myself… the farm is paid for but those taxes … ughhh.
I live in Washington state and it is insane in western Washington you can't even find a decent studio apartment for less than 1,600 a month for a damn studio right now I'm keeping my options open and the first second I have an opportunity to move out of the state I'm taking it it's absolutely insane
It's gotten about the same even in Spokane, it's a little better than last year but most of the one beds and studios are around 1,400 average. You can maybe live in a one bed with another person if you want to but I'm in my 30s and tired of having roommates LoL
Great video and views man. I’m about to be 29 myself, and in a similar boat never moving and leaving the Tampa area in Florida. I’ve been longing and researching moving away, and a lot of these points you hit are great things to consider
We left Duvall, WA last year for Montana - best move ever - food here is waaaay cheaper, taxes are low, people are more friendly, yeah...best move ever. We were 35years in same location in WA - now we start over!
I currently live in Spokane which is a little better than the west side, but I’m still looking forward to moving out of Washington. Just the other day I started looking into Kentucky because of the cost of living and the political environment.
@@michellegordon4211 I was raised in Arkansas and we were never hit by a tornado. A couple of close calls but never any damage. The heat and humidity is why I’m not moving back to Arkansas. I hope the summer months in Kentucky are a little less humid. I’ll plan a visit during the summer months some time soon.

I also live in Snoqualmie Valley; Zach's descriptions are fairly accurate. The Valley feels like the rain capital of the world, especially by Rattlesnake Ridge. The Valley suffers from Seattlite's/ Communist's moving in and bringing their political views/ voting habits them. The Valley was Red and has switched to Blue. King County is terrible for property taxes. A simple home was 5k+ in 2022, soon to be $7200 in 2023. I know of several families fleeing Washington State for many of the same reasons.
