These videos are ALMOST as enjoyable as harvest videos. It is such a relief to see other gardeners struggling, letting you know that you're not all alone in the challenges you face as a gardener. I think if one of the goals of making a gardening RU-vid channel is to get more people gardening, this is how you achieve that goal. Thanks for posting.

So nice of you! I'm aiming to show others "best practices", give examples of how I do this, but definitely keep it real. The reason this channel exists is to give people the confidence to press forward in their own gardening journey, because I think it's so rewarding to do it!

Hi there 🙋🏻‍♀️ We also had blueberries fail and got some good advice that seems to be working. Raised bed filled with acid compost, peat moss and some pine bark chips. You have to soak the peat moss in water for atleast 24hrs before mixing in. Also fertilise with a teaspoon/per plant of ammonium sulphate every month from bloom to harvest. Heavily mulch plant and water everyday on hot weather and every other day in cooler weather. Our new blueberries are in for a year now and we have had fruit and lots of growth.
@pauliewalnuts2007
@pauliewalnuts2007 3 года назад
I did that for my blueberries, and they all got root rot and died. I followed the Dave Wilson nursery recipe for soil and failed miserably. For some reason the mix just got waterlogged, even though they said that this mix would be free draining and great for blueberries
@YM-fq1tm
@YM-fq1tm 3 года назад
@@pauliewalnuts2007 my plants seemed to do better and even grew new shoots from the ground so it's basically created a bigger bush. Mark from self sufficient me here on RU-vid had great advice too. I'm in a sub tropical climate though. I hope you succeed because homegrown blueberries are so amazing 🌷

I've followed Dave Wilson Nursery's advice on planting mix, but I honestly think it's an issue of water, sun, and infrequent feeding that mess me up. I'm determined to have these plants make it!!

I suggest giving the blueberries some dappled shade. Mine are in pots under my fruit trees and they can take the 100+ heat but still get burned just a little bit. It seems to give them some relief.

Oh boy! I’ve struggled with stone fruit trees ( Plums, cherries, peaches...). No matter how much I babied them, they always had an issue . I finally threw in the towel and made firewood wood out of them . The last of the stone fruit left in my Red Haven peach and this is the first year she’s held onto some fruit (even while fighting off some diseases). I’m hoping to finally get a chance to try my first Red Haven. Love your garden ❤️

That's so tough. Try and try and try. If trees didn't cost so much and take so long to produce, I don't think it'd be so sad. I hope you get to taste that peach!

G'day mate. Despite some of the "failures" I just love seeing what is going on there. It's Winter here in Australia and my orchard looks so bare with all the leaves gone. Such a good video as always and I really appreciate the amount of information you give as to progress in the video. It's great that you stay real and share your issues and explain them to the viewers. All the best mate and enjoy those berries, regardless of how sparse they are. Daz.

My granny smith apple from Home Depot is 6+ years old and it's a 3rd of the size of the pear tree I bought at the same time/same place and only fruits 3 or 4 fruits the past 3 years. The pear, while large and fruits well, keeps getting some type of rust.

Thanks for sharing! And for the commentary on why you think plants might be struggling. It’s helpful because if you’re struggling with something, there’s a decent chance someone else might be, too!

I wasted hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on apple, pear, and peach trees. After years of expensive fertilizers and water, they barely even flowered before dying for no known reason. I guess it's cause I live in deep south United States. The weather is either too hot, too cold, or too windy. I'm glad more locals here are realizing these trees are a lost cause in these parts.

Oh no! There are definitely lots that can go wrong, but it's surprising to hear of a consistent loss of trees. Could be a watering issue (possible overwatering).

We built our food forest and raised beds in the last 18 months. So not many yet, but one major one is multi graft citrus I'd never do that again, citrus just doesn't grow even enough and I am struggling, the stone and apple multi grafts are fine.
@TheBusyGardener
@TheBusyGardener 3 года назад
ARGH! Such a bummer when stuff just isn't producing like we'd hoped. And citrus is supposedly one of the easier fruit to grow
@matthewfarrell317
@matthewfarrell317 3 года назад
@@TheBusyGardener single graft citrus is fine, they thrive where I am (most houses have an orange or lemon tree. It's just the multi grafts. One graft will grow and not the other and then you have to balance it. In 18 months my citrus trees are the same size or smaller than I started. My stone and apple are 3 times the size. It's ok, I got a second Lemonade (which I highly recommend if you don't have one). So even if the multi graft struggles I'll have another source, if it eventually thrives more lemons lol

Many things have worked really well in spite of my “best efforts” but my lemon tree is just taunting me. It’s grown massive of the past two years but my lemons make it to about lime size and color and nothing more. I got 1 lemon last year, nothing so far this year.

Ooooh I sure got my failures. Just like you Blueberries just don't do it for me so I'm just gonna plant Blackberries instead. Persimmon is another failure for me. I have managed to kill at least 3 Fuyus, and 1 Hachiya. It just sucks, they start growing well and vigorously and then they die. So I give up on them too. In the flip side, my Persian sour plums, Persian black mulberry aka Shahtoot, and Pomegranates are doing fantastically so I don't consider myself a failure it's just that I might not have the climate for the failed plants. Love your channel 👍👍👍

@andrewp.619 3 года назад
Some of my failures include a persimmon, and an espalier apple tree. However, like you said, it was an opportunity to learn. I’ve since grown many great apple trees, and need a new persimmon next season to go back in place, where a drip system and 6” mulch layer have been installed in preparation. Surprisingly, some of my success include my mango tree and my blueberries. I have the blueberries in half wine barrels so I can control the acidity level much easier. Great video!

Blueberries are easy, find a container with no holes at the bottom, drill a hole on side about 2 inches on side, a large container, so that excess water drips out, and a soil acidifier, and mulch with wood chips , water once a week.

Also I have a blueberry plant in a container that was scorched by the recent heatwave we had. I’m going to try to rehab it by feeding it more regularly.

I should have started with the Azalea mix! I'm going to give my soil acidifier a shot and will restart with brand new soil if that doesn't do the trick.
@ericbowers1620
@ericbowers1620 3 года назад
@@TheBusyGardener yeah it needs to be a pretty strong acidifier because they like down in the high 4’s to maybe 5.5 for acidity and most soils are far from those numbers.

Always love your videos . . Thank you 😊. I purchased my first two fruit trees in 2020. When they leafed up in spring 2020, They had peach leaf curl badly. I sprayed them repeatedly with copper fungicide, this spring they looked great, foliage and fruit. But now they’re putting on tip foliage that is diseased. I can’t spray due to the fruit. Is there anything I can do?

My blueberries gave me about 15 berries this year. And my Elderberry had a ton of flowers, but something happened, (I think it has something to do with my cats using the tub), and it near died. One sad branch has a few berries. That is just the bushes I have. I lost a lot to my cats. (They have 3 litterboxes! Two cats!) Same happened last year. Tried all kinds of things to keep them out.
