Wife and I installed this past month: koni shocks, sound dampening, sound blocking foam padding, shifter rebuild, steering wheel cover, speaker wires to the jbl amp, extra drink holder, found the AC button under the seat, stapled a torn part of the soft top, removed a rattling spoon from the top storage area, replaced the window bushings, cleaned and greased the window rails, fixed the hood rattle at idle, and replaced the hood rod holder. Corona has kept us busy, yikes!
If these really are the 5 WORST things about the Miata, you'd better never get a british sports car! They have the same "problems" less the reliability! And let's not forget that it's a 30 + year old design! Good job, Alex! :)
Hi, nice video, I own a Miata (1990, 148.00 Km) and use it as a holiday and leisure car. It is fun to drive and also the lack of options makes me feel happy. My wife and I use to go on holiday with it for two weeks in France or Germany (we live in the Netherlands) and the trunk is large enough to take clothes for 2 weeks for the both of us. An advantage is that my wife cannot shop during the holiday, no space for extra cloths 😊 I changed the radio indeed for one with bluetooth and USB, futher the Miata is original and we have a lot of fun with it.
I’ve never heard anyone mention the best Miata cup holder hack. I’ve always wedged my drinks behind the passenger seat and it works awesome. The passenger just wedges theirs behind the driver.
Dude, I’m lovin this content. Didn’t know this channel existed until a month ago, but as a fellow na6 owner (sort of, it’s more of an nb1 rollerskate with an na6 shell) I am really impressed by how original your Miata content is, and have found new insights from you on a car I thought I already knew-quite literally-inside and out :)
I've got a 95' supercharged 230bhp, custom widebody 10.5j rears, no carpets, sparco sprints, roll bars, track doorcards, most stuff replaced with carbon fibre and a straight through twin exit.....I fucking love how loud and visceral the driving experience is, was my daily for 2 years, now a summer/track toy as I picked up a E36 325 TDS wagon, which runs close to 300bhp ideal daily and tow car 👌
I do have to laugh at when people talk about the lack of interior space in the Miata. One easy way to get around that is to own an Abarth 500 for a while, and suddenly the Miata feels so huge. :)
MIata is for people wanting the British sports car fun and feel without the issues. The list of 5 worst things are actually positives! If you don't like the ride or noise, get a nice soft car and cruise to your heart's content. If you want the rawness and fun factor, this car is for you. Might be a little rough for a commuter car in traffic, but it is perfect for a fun runabout on the weekends.
If someone buys a Miata and complain about feeling the wonderful smell of your car and hearing it and feeling every little bump.. you bought the wrong car. Seem like you always have about 15 peoole giving the thumbs down on your videos.. just can't figure out why..
Wow you’re growing so fast! Keep up the dope vids man. And also I’d recommend the IL motor sports center console for the NA Miata, I have it and it’s great for putting drinks in a convenient place when going out to eat!
Older April issues of Consumer Reports magazine at a library have ratings for tire noise, traction and life. I bought Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season tires for how quiet they are, along with long life, and less age cracks in the sidewalls compared to more expensive Michelins. The April 2020 issue dropped the tire info except a very vague 1 page summary, trying to get you to pay for their online subscription every year.
Just wanted to say, Thank you for the advice. I come from the land of minitrucks and I've got my eyes on getting an NA Miata. Although all the things you mentioned I'm used to, its still nice to know beforehand.
Honestly my nb 03 ls has power everything and I really miss the days of my 92 with manual everything including steering. What a nightmare its going to be to try and get rid of all the power crap in this car for manual.
to be honest i dont know hoiw dont have more subs. legit i watch most of ur vids and ur actually a pretty real and honest when it comes to cars. keep up the good work
My NA Miata has been a lawn ornament from day the day I bought it (3 weeks ago) I’m just waiting to get plates for it. Maybe I haven’t had it long enough or maybe because I’ve only driven it around the block a couple times. But I have yet to have a complaint other than the lack of power.
Appreciate your opinion but you gotta understand this car was built in 1989 is a lot of cars but they didn’t have things like your comforts that your generation needs now to drive a car now. Your last paragraph was the best thing you said enjoy the car appreciate the age appreciate that doesn’t have all the modern cons that cars have today
I have a couple of 'Miatas' or MX5s as we call them here. Here in Australia we always had electric mirrors and windows standard so that was never an issue for me. I guess the rest of the missing interior comforts and accessories are pretty well unnecessary anyway - and I have put aftermarket bluetooth head units into both of mine anyway. Space isn't an issue for me either as I accept that it's a small car. I find I can fit all I need to into mine unless I am buying something that I wouldn't normally need room for, and for that I borrow someone else's car! :) I have all good seals etc and TBH I don't get any nasty oil, fuel or coolant smells. My first MX5 did have a heater core leak like yours and I did get the coolant smell then, but that was a one off. As for ride comfort, I have one car on Tein coilovers with a large front roll bar and low profile tyres on 949 racing wheels. This car when the shock adjustment is turned to soft actually still rides very nicely, although I concur that it can be a little harsh on really big bumps. My other car has some quality lowering springs that are not particularly stiff but is otherwise standard, and rides very nicely. So luckily for me, there are no 'worst things' with my MX5s. Except that they cost more here and I can only afford two of them :) Thanks for the great channel.
Alex Perrucci it improves every aspect of the car, suspension works better, it brakes better it even goes faster, feels like a new car, worth every cent bro, cheers from new Zealand..
As far as carrying capacity "IT IS A SPORTS CAR - NOT A MINIVAN. As far as luxuries - IT IS A SPORTS CAR - NOT A TOWNCAR. As far as how it smells - the newest Miata NA is 1997 (24 years old) And you are criticizing how it smells after 24 years??? As far as road noise - You are right on - they are noisy (part of their charm). As far as the ride - They ride like a skateboard. Throw a picnic basket in the trunk , take it for a trip and enjoy. We have a 99 and an 04 and love touring with them. Go Miata!
Worst thing about the Miata is the price in California Jesus fuck people are assholes when tryna sell they miata “I know it’s value” damn homie das crazy so why you charging 10k for a 25 yr old car wit 177k miles and salvage title 😳
I dunno, man. Are these YOUR 5 worst things? Because after you named a few, you basically said it wasn't a big deal to you. And if it's a list for 'just anyone', I have to strongly disagree with most of your list. The one thing you did get right is the smells though. But not from the car. It's that you can smell everything OUTSIDE. I can smell people smoking from their cars. I can smell garbage trucks a quarter mile ahead. I can smell gross diesel fumes. I can smell everything. If you remove your charcoal filter and your cat, then yes, of course, you're going to smell gas and exhaust. But that's because you made it that way. Things like lack of space is like 'duh'. And noise?? It's a convertible. Noise is one of the reasons you buy one. So I just turn the stereo up. I'll say that the number one worst thing about a Miata is the leaks. Almost all tops leak somewhere. On soft tops, usually where the two seal pieces come together at the center of the window. Or the front corners. I don't know about with hardtops. And then I've never met a Miata that didn't leak some kind of fluid somewhere. Mine drips about 4 drops of oil after every drive. Probably either front or rear main seal, or both. My 95 did it. My 90 does it. My 93 used to do it a lot. They all seem to do it, a little or a lot. But the point is, even with the "worst" things, the cars are great fun and awesome to own. And I'll never not have one in my life.
When I had my ‘92 Miata, I got so many “chick car” jokes from the guys at work. A friend that carpooled with me defended me saying the car rode rough, was loud, even in stock form. It was also hard to get in and out of, and couldn’t carry hardly anything. The AC just worked ok. With all that, what chick would want that? I now have a ‘94 but with a few creature comforts like power windows, power steering, power mirrors and cruise control. It’s got leather seats but they’re trashed. Looking for replacements.
Pretty good advice here, but I'll add my 2¢. 1. Wheel size and tire choice can affect noise and ride comfort. IMO, 15" wheels are best for their light weight while still offering some give in the sidewalls to absorb bumps. Larger wheels with lower profile tires may corner better, but larger wheels are typically heavier which adds unsprung weight. Simply put, the car is more responsive with lighter wheels. 2. Some strategically placed dynamat does wonders for interior noise reduction. Firewall, door skin, behind the door panel, rear deck are very helpful. 3. Be sure all your seals are in place and in good shape. Seal off any little holes in the firewall with mastic tape and check the upper and lower transmission seals. These wear out quickly and let in road noise and engine smells. By the way, if you smell a hint of antifreeze inside the car, it's probably time to replace the heater core hoses. Pull the dashboard when you do as it's a perfect opportunity to make the corrections I just listed and makes the job a hell of a lot easier. 4. There's an opening in the trunk that leads to the passenger side seat. Stuff some foam or a pillow into this void.
My first car was a 68 MGB GT. I loved the noise( engine, transmission, & assorted rattles) & rough ride. Now I have a 96 NA. I have all those things again & loving every minute of it !!!
I own an NB and by far the worst thing about it is every other vehicle on the road looks huge. Normal cars: huge, SUVs: massive, semis: OMG!! Second worst thing is accessibility especially with aftermarket seats fitted.
Since this Miata is so awful and the sports car experience does not work for you, then get a truck, you will have lots of room and can take along a passenger. If you had known British sports cars you would not complain about your Miata. But I suspect you love the car, you are just trying to make it better, which you can not other then buying a newer one.
The Issue with the cupholders is honestly just America's cup sizes. In Germany, the biggest cups you get from fast food chains like McDonalds are 500ml, they fit in there perfectly. Having 2l big cups is NOT the norm by all means.
Never getting rid of my miata i dont have ac or heat or radio or power steering racecars dont need that but I do have leather seats power windows and power mirrors and lots of low budget mods 😁
bruh really said miatas smell bad, then lists off how its his fault that it smells bad. Nobody. This guy, the road is too loud, why did putting my car on washers while having blown suspension make my car sound so loud D:/ . Oh no I hit a pot hole going 80 and my car threw me around, this car is so shit... Edit: Oh no I did a AC delete mod and now my car's AC is bad, WTF miata bad.
It's good that RU-vid has the translator, so I can watch your videos and at the same time read the comments. I have a Mazda 93 and I don't know if it's worth investing a little money to make it work well.
As for space, I had the HT, more room for bags, even more with ST delete. Instead of leaving the spare, do the relocate under the trunk. As for luggage choice, soft sided duffle bags are the only way to go.i manage 4 big duffle bags and 2 back packs, with a spare in the trunk.
NB fixes all that, at least a little. Bigger trunk and roomier interior. NB has more interior amenities particularly in LS trim. NVH is pretty bad in an NB but it's better than an NA. Now when it comes to the ride, NB won't fix that. Even dead stock neither the NA nor the NB rides very well. So maybe the answer is an NC? Or a set of Ohlins if you are ready to double the value of the car. Bonus: NB only has the world's second worst cup holders.
there is a 6 & it's a bad one. due to envy or other road rage factors you may attract unwanted attention. the size doesn't help. if you want to play you're on your own. if your enjoying your ride, being respectful & obeying laws you're in trouble. suggest you slow down (no braking) pull over & hope the problem goes away. good luck.
i had a box fan and i didn’t fit in the trunk so i had to have my passenger hold it. i’ve also had someone sit on my passengers lap for a 45 min drive to a car meet lmao
I was a long term first gen. MR2 owner & always felt it was a more refined car with better creature comforts than the Miata but we envied the amount of space the Miata's had. I recently wanted to get back to owning another roadster & being 5ft. 9in. tall I was surprised to discover I was looking at the top rail of the windshield when looking out front. I think it was an NB but not 100% sure.
To me, all these things are not a problem. Considering this was made in the '90s. Not a problem at all. All these worst things are what I like about the car. It is a pure driver's car. No more, no less. When you compensate for practicality, the car becomes less fun.
