The 500 pound spring, was rated in a spring rater and a test bench. (Chevelle and standard lower) We tested : AFCO, Hyperco, Landrum, Eibach, BSB Link: www.bsbgofast.com/post/the-50...
Thanks Jay and Crew for this video. Learned a lot about springs and how they differ from one brand to another.....Makes me glad that I spent the time with a load stick and saved all my graphs. Will be interesting to compare this data and put it to use in the future....I guess it is true in this sport/hobby.... you never get done learning new things... that something as simple as a coil spring has so many variables that affect the performance and outcome on the car.... Coil springs have been on every Race car I have worked on since 1971 and I learned more watching this video in 30 minutes than I ever knew before..... You go from getting coil springs off a station wagon in a wrecking yard and heating coils and collapsing springs to reading data on a coil spring that was collected with a CNC measuring device...... we live in great times for information sharing... thanks BSB and Jay Neal for the education..... I was very surprised to see such big swings on the Landrum and Afco springs (the 88# rate change vs nominal 100#) in a single step. It would be interesting to understand more about the test rig and any possible sources for test error. I've been involved in metal testing for years and such a big swing on a common spring is not something I would have expected.
Sorry about that, but before you set it to stone that was an error in the chart. they did run around 100 pounds. Here is a link www.bsbgofast.com/post/the-500-pound-spring
We were in the process of building that machine a few years ago when someone decided they needed to move it and dropped it and broke the flywheel off. It went into the metal bin (scrap). Durability testing has been done by our builder on our material but not a BSB spring, it ran for 6 months.
People this is local level racing not freaking Indy car for god sakes. Throw 4 springs in the car big gear ⚙️ and pump them 🥜 up and go race .. Geeze Louise. All this extra info is a bit much esp for the majority of racers just weekend warrior type racers
