What I really appreciate about this is how Bacharach really encourages their professional input. He WANTS it. He almost looks for it in some places in the song. Even though he knows where he wants the song to go, he still looks to them, as professionals, to use their knowledge as vocalists to add those special touches in the right spots. And they made suggestions, and he invited them. Some producers do not want that at all.
Just came across this... I’m on a 5th Dimension jag right now. There was magic with all 5 of them, but can you imagine being in Billy’s place and having Marylin sing right in your ear at home? Such a gifted voice... and a one-of-kind group. There will never be another!

Exactly. While they are in the Vocal Group HoF, the R&R HoF ha not honored them. And I asked about this when I last visited the museum here in CLE, they told me that the committee in NYC pulls the strings. I just smh. Yet groups that came after them, and were influenced by them, have been nominated and some have been selected already. It just isn't right.
I remember this Burt Bacharach Special when it was first aired years ago. I was such a big fan of The 5th Dimension that I recorded an audio of it and listened to it many times. What a pleasure to be able to watch it again years later and see them work together and create this hauntingly beautiful arrangement of "Nobody Knows the Trouble I've seen" I simply love RU-vid!
Wow, First time ever hearing the 5th Dimension sing this song and I grew up listening to them! Nice to hear this during African American History Month!
A national treasure. I hope this is in a time capsule somewhere. It is BEYOND rare that the public is let in to witness the creative process behind the performance and now that most music is recorded in separate studios and much of it synthesized this colossal collaboration is seldom seen any more. I'm soooooooooo happy I stumbled upon this pure gold.
Anything with these six talents together was just gonna be special and great, and in different dimensions. Despite the greatness of each of them, every one of them was so fortunate to work with the others here. Here, we have a whole gospel choir going on with just five singers, the music written by the singers and a Jewish man. And how many components did they fit in that one song?! The song is not very long and yet is operatic in its different traditional and more modern 'movements'. Beautiful, American talent!
Something is definitely wrong how the hell!! can the fith dimension not be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame! They put every other group to shame! Best singing group of all time!
They definitely need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but I do think that they'll get there eventually, but there is no reason why they shouldn't have been inducted three decades ago

The treat of this clip is even grander than I thought! The airdate was just 3 days before my 17th birthday and just months before I graduated High School! What a gift!!! Then, to see my heroes in process and up close, creating that sound that literally gave me life! Wow! Amen and hallelujah!

I JUST NOW NOTICED: ON THE SONG " EVERYTHING'S BEEN CHANGED" , from '76, Marilyn is wearing that VERY same outfit she is wearing here. HOW did I notice this? Simple ! Cuz I can't take my eyes off of Marilyn, That's why ! ! -------the women is almost too gorgeous .
The 5D used to get a lot of flack from some in the black community, because they felt the group was " too white" --in their vocals, & with people they worked with. What a ridiculous joke! They were 5 talented black people who were unabashedly who they were. They were just so good, everyone wanted to work with them! And Marilyn was just so gorgeous & talented!! Wolfsky9
Wolfsky9 And yet many in the black community will admit NOW to listening to them. I was born the year Flashback came out so the group pretty much broke up not too long after. Yet I grew up on their albums thanks to my aunt having them. 😊 I mostly only knew Marilyn & Billy from their duet days, as I was a little older by then. And of course I watched Solid Gold every week. But I had heard of the flack the 5D, and also Dionne Warwick got back in the 60s. But they all opened doors for those who followed, especially those today.
