Actually slicer with trample vs a chump blocker is ok if the player controlling him just assigns all the combat damage to the blocker. It doesn't have to trample over.
true but i’m sure one of the aims of the video was to bring light to some other lesser known power houses. pretty much everyone and their mother knows about atraxa or korvold. not to mention i’m pretty sure they’ve discussed korvold and etali on some other “remove on sight” style videos
What's funny is that apparently Thassa's Oracle is considered the meme/troll wincon of Nadu decks since you can brick your turn by running into it too early in your Nadu loop. Apparently people prefer to Hullbreaker Horror sol ring loop into finale of devastation because it's much more consistent. Crazy how the non-determinism of the deck makes Thoracle look less appealing
I slipped Elesh Norn into my Kudo, King Among Bears, deck and she really boosts it's power level. The two cards mesh together in a way that's both intuitive and fun for the deck's pilot. The only problem is that if you don't have her, playing your kudo decks makes it an awful lot harder against Krenko, Mob Boss, because all of the goblins are also made into 2/2 bears. Lent Krenko to a friend of mine when testing Kudo for the first time and it was a heck of a lot harder.
I may have written this comment a bit too early. Since my Kudo deck in particular was referenced, there was a game where I had both Champion of Lambholt and Ayula, Queen Among Bears in my opening hand and I immediately became the villain of magic the gathering. Even Krenko, Mob Boss was powerless to stop me that game.
A note, doesnt Kutzil not work with Kudo with 1/1s becoming 2/2s as Kudo sets their BASE power and toughness to 2/2 so to Kutzil its as if their stats havent changed and so without counters there would be no benefit.
@NateFinch I know but I was mostly noting the fact that the video could have made it feel like kutzil and Kudo automatically do that, without any outside buffs needed, I know that the first time I heard that before thinking hard into it I took it as that.
LOL I put Slicer in my The Rani deck, it be super fun since you can keep adding Mark of the Rani to Slicer and the Doublestrike gives a potential 2 clues, from the combat damage trigger on each opponents turn. The deck can be really fun since it goads creatures while the innocuous clues stack up and win you the game from Mechanized Production or Cyberdrive Awakener ;p
I love my Kudo deck. Elesh Norn in the 99 is fun but with Avula Queen amoung bears you can go infinite with a Scurry Oak or Basking Broodscale. Ocelot Pride is also an MVP if you get it going early.
I play slicer quite a bit, there are some situations where I want everyone to stay alive as long as possible to make it so i don’t have to be in a 1v1 situation which is unfavorable to me. Cool vid and thanks for highlighting my favorite commander
@@CTimmerman nope, it’s not about having enough life. Loxodon hammer also heals other people since the creature gets lifelink. And trample isnt good, opponents can just assign all the damage to the blocking creature
Ovika is another one. Basically every time I’ve seen it make the next turn cycle, the deck storms off enough to either with with damage, or take 1 or 2 people out with hasty goblins
Scute Swarm's ability to replicate itself definitely matters, because it grows exponentially, instead of just one creature at a time. It takes almost nothing to have 32, 64, and then 128 Scute Swarms.
18:40 I think you are selling spring heart Nantuko short. Yesterday I managed to create an army of Phyrexian Obliterators with that card. It shouldn’t be underestimated.
I have Kutzil in my Jetmir deck, because he is a cat. Cats are the only creatures in the deck. It makes me feel a little less guilty for playing Jetmir, but there are still a lot of cats that make more cats
I can't stand slicer, it's basically one guy gets killed early. Then finally the slicer deck gets put under control and probably won't win. So you just get one guy who is unlucky and dies to a guy who wouldn't win anyway
Tergrid, God of Fright is the kind of theme (spooky stuff) I love - but now I feel like I can never play a commander deck with her if she's renown to be hated xD?
I like the slicer pick but i think Alexios is slightly more dangerous double strike is slightly better than trampl but alexios will buff himself and the ability to not attack you at all is significantly better than goad. You will never have to worry about dying to your own commander.
BEEZY. My brother you almost game a heart attack at the beginning. I thought you were gonna say you eat your potato chips the tall way. (Instead of eating the chip flat it's up and down if that makes sense) lol
Is the Kutzil not broken by Kudo? Kudo changes the base power and toughness so if a 1/1 turns into a 2/2 it won't trigger the card draw because the base changed it wasn't made bigger
Kudo serriusly is a pretty strong commander. At least if you play against creature bassed strageties. Often because it crushes everyones else creatures whil you are playing creatures whit effects that get boosed you end up whit a board that is overwhelmingly stronger then everyone else as long as kudo is in play. It also slows the game way down because it is hard to attack each other if everything is a 2/2
His un sacableness is tied to his upkeep ability, so he cannot be sacrificed for a turn when he is donated to an opponent but when under its owners control it can be sacrificed.
@@aldotrioksidi thats an interesting one, it's still under it's owners control while the upkeep ability is o the stack so it will work that way yes. In essence whenever slicers owner controls it you can force a sacrifice.
I have a full combo "budgety" Stella deck with only one creature - Simian Spirit Guide which only serves as a ritual spell anyways. I've sent the list to my friends, they were upset with my list. 😂
pretty sure kuztil does NOT work with kudo because kutzil checks to see if their power is greater than their base power, but kudo makes their BASE p/t 2/2
I'm glad to see that nadu got banned recently, on top of being horribly designed it just takes so long for nadu to play out and there isn't a clear path to win off of it, it's boring to play against and takes too long to not even secure the win I'm glad to see it gone even if it's so fast
Yuo I know her all too well, my favorite Evil Commander Tergrid, when I bring here out at my local game store while playing Commander I always get dirty looks….It’s the Price of being EVIL🖤😈👍🏼👍🏼💯
What if you put Helm of Hosts in that first Elesh Norn deck? Her abilities stack, you'd make it impossible for opponents to play any creatures whatsoever
Helm of the Host is a super strong effect, sure, but that's another 9 mana. If Elesh Norn is out, it's probably best to accelerate towards a win or to draw into cards that keep her on the board. Helm of the Host admittedly does both (gives your guys another 2 power to swing with and if elesh gets removed, you still have a copy out). But if I untap with Elesh in play and I have 9 mana to spend there's any number of spells that can win the game for me. E.g. Moonshaker Cavalry (the white Craterhoof Behemoth) for 8 mana or something like Grand Crescendo (isntant x-spell, make x weenies and give your stuff indestructible for a turn. play to protect your elesh from removal but also put seven 3/3 creatures into play with elesh norn and 9 mana out and on your untap just end one player.) Playing Helm of the Host for sure isn't a "mistake" but it's also not some super special synnergy. You're just doubling up on Elesh Norn and if they can't deal with that, then they couldn't deal with any number of other big spells you can conceivably cast for 9 mana. It's basically "make a clone" outside blue colors ... but for colorless 9 mana. It's still very cool!
played a five man game with someone who had an alexios. they rolled highest and immediately played mountain, jeweled lotus, alexios. Someone was dead turn 1, I was 2, the next person was 3, and finally turn 4 the game was won by the alexios player. I dont think alexios is a game ending threat, it is the fast mana. considering that it isn't hard to get alexios down turn two.
@@Tuchpi nah he’s tougher. The whole table is on a 3 turn timer which starts as earlier at turn 3. He deals 22 or 26 commander damage in the first turn cycle, which on turn 3 is insane. Turn 4, where you are more likely to have a decent blocker, he is 9+ power/toughness so you can’t kill him without spot removal. That’s all without any consideration of the owner buffing or protecting the creature. Slicer is easier to remove being an artifact, so any artifact synergies are arguably neutral due to easier removal. He also has no trample, and no built in buffing like Alexios; evasion and hitting harder are like the two main pieces of a Voltron strategy which are both built-in for one and not the other.
Garfield, I love Commander’s Plate in my Vorinclex deck. Making people deal with the 9/9 (vanishingly unlikely minimum stat line, that) that’s Prot. Everything But Green, while I’m actually pursuing a plan the Big Guy is just a KoS smokescreen for is delicious, because it *keeps working even against players that know better* . Eat. Garruk. Tokens. So sad you forgot the dust and cobwebs *can* be blown off the rest of Doubling Season’s text box. :)
