Actually, I’m pretty sure the Mania variant of the Bubble gimmick is more-so based on the Triple Trouble version than the 8bit Sonic 2 version - though technically TT did reuse the idea from 8bit Sonic 2.

For what happened in Forces with losing rings, I just had my avatar as a hedgehog. they should have made the hedgehog able to at least run faster than the other avatar animals. they could have gave the hedgehog avatar a boost ability and a homing attack that works only on enemies while the chain attack does the rest for things that you lock onto if you understand what i'm saying.

The reason why the zone intro pictures are all showing Tails too is because Sega planned to have Tails as Sonic's Sidekick, just like in the 16-Bit version. However, they had to discard this idea due to technical limitations. The whole "rescue Tails" thing was only because Master System and Game Gear couldn't handle Tails as a Sidekick. But the images remained unchanged, that's why they're all showing Tails accompanying Sonic.

I Really Really Hate The Thumbnail

I consider myself a 'expert' in this category, and I can say the list of ones to stay away from is much shorter. Avoid Sonic Blast, Sonic 2, and Tails Sky Patrol for 8 bit. Everything else is pretty fun to play through. Sonic Blast is ridiculously easy and seems like a bad 3rd party game not even made by Sega, a rom hack at best, with 1 really hard water level. Its not THAT bad but, Sonic 2 is absolutely the worst 8 or 16 bit era Sonic game of all time. I dont understand how they could expect kids to beat near impossible bosses with 0 rings the entire game. But guess what, if you make it to the final level? THE FINAL BOSS IS THE EASIEST ONE, BY 1000 times.... IT MAKES NO SENSE! Even playing Sonic games for 30 years, using a rom hack and save states, it's extremely frustrating, unless you replay that 100s of times within a month and learn every frame perfect movement. And most people who had that game in the 90s were elementary school age, maybe middle. Sky patrol isnt even a sonic game, it was made for some cancelled portable console and then moved to Game Gear, and then Sega decided to put tails in, in order to sell it. On the other hand, Sonic Chaos is a VERY fun game! If you've played it a lot, it's easily beaten in 20-25 minutes or so. If you've never played it but have played sonic games for years, it will be short but sweet, definitely some great new mechanics. Sonic 1 is very challenging on the Game Gear but unlike Sonic 2, it's not complete garbage. You have rings to fight the bosses, the bosses aren't throwing nonstop ridiculous attacks at you, the bosses hit boxes arent suicidally broken, it's a great challenging game. Labyrinth,,,, well, you cant jump lol. Its like playing a pinball version of sonic 3D blast, but it's creative and I always enjoyed it as a kid. It can be rough though until you learn the controls and physics. But the GOAT? Sonic Triple Trouble. It to me is in the top 10 best Sonic games ever for sure. If this game were on Sega Genesis, it would be arguably the best 16 bit game, if you take into consideration what would be changed with 16 bit capabilities, while also having all the great features of the game. The final boss of this game is harder than any of the final bosses on Genesis other than Doomsday, but it's not unwinnable. But you're going to have to take dozens of hits and keep that final coin. You're going to get your ass kicked for a few MINUTES, yes MINUTES on the part with the lasers and lightning. That game alone was worth owning a Game Gear as a kid, just like Sonic CD alone was worth owning a Sega CD.

I personally really enjoyed Game Gear's Sonic 2, more on the Master System than the actual Game Gear, I just found the level designs mostly different to the other Sonic games and quite enjoyable, though I agree some bosses were tough and the Scrambled Egg maze was tricky too haha
