Aaliyah transcends time. Her influence is everlasting - revered by her peers, and built upon by today’s fans and fresh faces.
i-D, MAC Cosmetics and The Haughton Family present A-Z of Aaliyah, a modern homage to her music, dance, beauty and style.
Director Cara Stricker reimagines the A-Z’s alphabet format as Aaliyah would - not bound by the confines of conventional language, but through a deconstructed narrative of Aaliyah’s persona, artistry and legacy.
This nonlinear structure is illustrated through multiple formats including archival footage, otherworldly studio scenes, and airy exteriors in Aaliyah’s home of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
From Missy Elliott and Timbaland to Princess Nokia, Empress Of, Keke Palmer and Alton Mason, the film’s 26 vignettes weave together a cast of fans, collaborators, and creative talent building on Aaliyah’s influence today.
Timbaland’s team scored the film with a modern interpretation of Aaliyah’s sound. Aaliyah collaborators Tre Major, Eric Ferrell and Derek Lee consulted on hair, makeup and styling, respectively.
And finally, five of Aaliyah’s biggest fans were cast through Instagram, building on the inherently social movement that sparked MAC’s upcoming Aaliyah Collection.

She was barely an adult, but accomplished such a following. MTV and the rest of the music world were very shook when she died. There were so many tributes, more than when Prince and Michael died. Then 9/11 happened a few days later.

Yes .... I was in high school going through so much , When I saw Aaliyah on Tv I always stopped what I was doing & watched, she was so different , beautiful & stood above the average. Then came that weekend in August ...then shortly after came 9/11. I thought it was the end of the world. I don’t know how I survived 2001 without music , especially Destiny’s child survivor .

Aaliyah my queen. Her music got me through some tough times in middle school and high school. My favorite singer forever, can't nobody touch her no matter what. Her class her eloquence her aura is timeless. She ain't gone, she's elevated. Rest in Peace Babygirl.

lenappygarcon lol, no, they're not in the record shops, they are out of print for over decade (beside debut album). The copies that still may be in some stores are old prints that just didn't sell. I'm talking also about digital sales and streams obviously.

Tim didn't even do "rock the boat" tim and missy wasn't her only producers and tim tried releasing a unreleased song and fucking ruined with his oen voice and some uknown rapper thinking it was gonna be a hit, that dude sucks now! Im positive that by now Aaliyah would've moved on from him like how she did in her red album. Tim told Aaliyah that she wouldn't have been famous if it wasn't for him before her album was released but he got it all wrong its the other way around

I remember falling in love with her, listening to her voice and watching her interviews in admiration. I remember just thinking that she’s so chill and dope and gorgeous and she is a legend. She really is a huge part of my fashion and the reason why I believe you can be classy and be dope, there’s no specific way to be.. Aaliyah is everywhere, and though she is no longer with us... she is still a huge part of today’s style,society and music.

I must say, this young lady (Aaliyah) was so freakin talented and suave! !! She was just so natural with it. She could sing and dance her butt off! ! I can't say I've witnessed her acting skills, but I'm sure it equaled her other talents. It would be so nice to see where she'd be today,...her development of style, makeup, music, clothes. She most definitely was a trend setter and in her OWN lane. It still stings that she's gone. God bless her family, friends and all who loved her and may she rest in perfect peace 🌷

Re-watched "Queen of the Danned" tonight with my kids. I hadn't seen the film in over 15 years and... damn. She stole every scene when she was in frame. The micro expressions, the graceful movement and her simply *stunning* beauty. To this day she embodies the spirit of perfection.
