In February, 2020 - @devduttmyth told us about the problem in the 'fight' between the right and the left - in the midst of a very tumultous time in India. #DevduttPattanaik #PantPlus1
He's a wise man. We can all learn something from him. Because he understands history very well. We all remember the dates and names but not the lessons.
You'll be actually liberated when you realise this... Sab pagal hai.. Sab jhiit bol rahe hai.. Sab apna agenda chala rhe hai.. Koi articulately.. Koi provocatively...
I fully agree with him when he says that empathy or compassion is missing from intellectual discourse. I myself have been a part of it, and it would be false if I say that I haven't used my head in order to feel safe and secure. And in doing that, I must have offended or made somebody feel bad.
Because if you dont brand them as stupid you will have to listen to their opinion and listening to opinions of others is not a specialty of people who call themselves liberal in India. There are enough people on Twitter on the sane side of right leaning group who have challenged Mr. Patnaik multiple times with difficult questions. It is easier for him to just brand everyone under lynchers and other buzzwords in media than to answer legit questions.
Yeah right I agree with Saurabh, Devdutt was talking about trolls. But there is still a bit of prejudice, the trolls on th left are also violent , but not the extent that trolls of the right are... Ultimately, it's just ppl being lazy in thier perception on the other kind and finding it easy to stereotype and strawman
I don't know enough about the right and left wings in India, but from what I've seen on RU-vid about the USA, the right, with people like Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, Dennis Prager is far more intelligent than the left
I have read Shri Patnaik s book...it is one of the best works I have come across...by chance that too....I feel grateful we have such a brilliant mind among us... collaboration over argument..such a great point. I ve read the book twice...and still can't get enough of it...
I'm so much convinced by his perspective and at the same time I think is he trying to sell his cult of looking from a distance. Said what he said, how do you bring a harmonious understanding between left n right. The complexity of it leaves me lost.
The point he's making is exactly the same. The complexity of it isn't that easy. It seems easy to the adamant people on left or right but i reality there is no fix because existence of difference is not a problem but the way you deal with it is
@@rishabhmishra9230 he said it is and you are defending his position. He talks about listening to each other while criticising the left for wanting civil debates. Things doesn't add up unless what you want to be is a distant spectator enjoying the mess
I watched his show Devlok, listened to his podcast, and doing this from the time of 2014. but he is a different person on Twitter, he even blocked intellectual comments and critiques on twitter. and saying that the right doesn't have a brain describes a lot about him
When you call left argumentative and right as dum violent gorillas .This is the problem, you have tags left ,right and what else and then you have this entire discussion ,which involves empathy .Ppl are fools and when one fools stands a top a pedestal and screams aloud of some bullshit the other fools call him intellectual leftists .This entire discussion is pathetic. But none the less somewhat informative.
@@aryanbhan3594 Don't form your opinion based on twitter. That's probably the worst way to see the world. Twitter duniya nahi hai.. and let's just face it. Most Indians are not on twitter. And most ppl don't even voice thier own opinions. They just say stuff that will get them more likes and RTs
@@nishant16781 sham sharma is biased. But I believe the left and right labelling shouldn't be done. Both have flaws and need to be corrected to go further
Devdutt is truly a post modernist. It requires a lot of wisdom and intellectualism to get out of the hegemony of current political narrative. In fact he is beyond any cultural and social hegemony too. Way to go. Everything is truly a myth. A man with an ego will never realise that. Everyone is hell bent in proving their point.
never really thought about left vs right intellectualism this way. I am a complete liberal and open minded person but always fallen into the trap of explaining things to conservatives and never really respecting their background. really an eye opener. definitely going to try to have more empathy towards their thinking. but any ideas how to tackle this argument if they are incapable of listening to you and they just want to lynch you?
@@pankaj_9998 Or bow to the left and leave your homes with no hope of returning after 30 yrs.The left also sweeps its violence under the rug quite nicely but you have trained yourself to see one side of the coin only.
@@dbmdrums1105 Congress sponsored sikh massacre of 84,political killing of right in kerala and Northeast,PDP-NC supported KP killings and exodus.Try to see both side of the coin and then judge yourself.
I never really thought about the classic left v/s right debate in terms of cultural, intellectual and economical manner as explained by Devdutt sir. Great Conversation.
glad i found you, i have political opinion and i feel strong urge to argue to prove other person wrong. but i also understand that all this political debates in comment section is not at all fruitful all it does is to create hatred among people with different opinion. *also* some people are also raising point that he labels left and right as pseudo intellectual and goons, okay but you have too understand that he is talking about the overall effect of this online fight going that is loss of compassion, and understanding of other person, and in general how much we have separated our self from one another due to some ideology which hardy matter us in real life. internet was meant to connect people and enlightenment with knowledge not to separate and fight.
I appreciate your opinion, but I d still reiterate that thinking what he offers is actually real "mythology" is a fool's claim. I would suggest you to hear out people such as Amish Tripathi, Nityanand Misra, etc to know more about the Itihasa.
@@thenightking5161 I follow him from a long time and I belive that his representation of mythology is great. Even Amish and Nithyananda Mishra are also good, but I like his books more than anyone due to its rawness in presenting mythology
@@helloworld8058 Appreciate it, as the end result should be the growth of interest in our heritage, but still I don't really like his distortions. Secondly, I ve been reading his works since quite some time myself. They are fun, ngl, but with not the most correct information.
I used to listen devdutt pattanaik show on 98.3 FM using ganna app.. I really like his thoughts his was of looking things. But I used to imagine he will be slim as his voice but yes we should respect everything ... I just say what I feel.
The idea of compromised center which will blame both sides but has no solution with it. This is the easiest and laziest stand you can take. "Kids throw tantrums and should be understood for it" , sure but then again you don't let your kid run your house would you, if you did, you'd have a lot of candy by no water and electricity
Devdutt Patnaik gave some valuable inputs. Especially cultural left and right vis a vis economic left and right. But I cannot understand what is there to guffaw about?!
The irony of his statements lie in the fact where on one side he is talking about compassion and empathy and on the other hand he himself lacks those when talking about people.
@@dillippanda5798 Him calling all right wingers as lynchers and non-intellectual. Caveman hai kya saare right winger. People are more complex, they can't be cartoonised as being unintelligent, non able to express themselves through words. And if right winger opposes the use of gender pronoun, it is not bcos that they don't understand it. Just follow Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris, Ben Shapiro or any other right wing speaker.. it is dangerous and unfair to strawman the whole narrative of the right.. And also saying that all left winger are brahmin intelligent and all-knowing, he is already making a pseudo-castesim comment. Since he portrayed left as being upper class know all and right as unwashed lower class who are like children and have to be dealt with. Btw I am fan of his work.
@@gauravgandi1398 i don't see any fault in his assessment. An intellectual Right winger is an aberration at best. It is pretty obvious to anyone who has functioning eyes and ears that those low on IQ points almost always tend to lean heavily on the Right. The Left is visibly dominated by the intellectual kind. Even a militant Leftist would score higher on vocabulary than an average high school graduate. BTW I don't know where you got that idea, but Jordan Peterson and Sam Harris definitely are not Right wing speakers. Both of them are self declared Liberals. Ben Shapiro is a rare intelligent Right winger but definitely isn't an 'intellectual'. He debates well and speaks fast but even I, who's of average intelligence, could find the faults in his logic when I heard him speaking closely and analyzed his speech.
I think he meant economic and political aspect of left and right . Wth is "cultural" ! Take china for example . They are economically right but politically left .
@@vahsirartapaham4578 I think I understood the "cultural". It's how the ideals and ethics of a certain ideology permeate the cultural behaviour of people. So there are people who are left-liberal in thought but when it comes to policies and economy they are not a fan of that. So it's good for the ethic building in the society but not so much when it comes to economy and policy development.
Definitely taken aback by his identification of feminist, amongst a few other statements including the preceding one (of course). We would expect something better from a man of his stature.
This guy is a quack. His translation is inaccurate, hardly an expert. Yet celebrated. Will never get into a debate on how he translates. Hardly subject to scrutiny.
There will always be a difference of opinion. How else are we going to address it. Isn't non-violent debate the only way around it? How else should we do it? How can we validate the violence as well?
Debate indeed is the best way to resolve anything . He just meant do not be placing yourself (left) on pedestals intellectually , unnecessary creating a class difference and thinking that the rules YOU made has to be followed by everyone. Because diversity duh...
Sorabh please do more podcasts. Don't want to compare but we need more joe Rogan type of podcast and i think yours are best, just like how you let the guests speak and many more things, loved all the podcasts.✌️
Coming from a guy who completely misinterpreted gita his book "my gita" is the last book in the world i would suggest you to read i have been recently studying various book of philosophy and religions his books are not good and misleading i would suggest you bhagvad gita as it is,if you don't want any gods then zen: it is a mixture of buddhism and taoism and some hinduism concepts but if you want extreme practical philosophy with no gods no religion then stoicism mainly books of marcus aurelius my personal preference will be for zen
Eeee Takle... I just realised you were one of the villains from my high school time. You were featured in Yeh hai reshmi zulfon ka andhera song. Just kidding... Love all your contents, keep up the good work man. 😁
Me, a doctor, an intellectual Right wing guy, disagrees with him with simple not so intellect simple division of right & left, it's not black & white, its multiple shades of grey.
