Know the scale and than look up chord progression for that scale 😉

This might be a 'cliche 'answer that a lot of people hate, but ... Ears, mate. Invest a good amount of time (maybe from 6 months to a year) learning theory and notes, or maybe an instrument, like piano. Understanding notes and keys is still the undisputed best way for a long term music production career.

start with the bass notes first. it’s easier to find chords that way.

Back in the days when I knew nothing about how to write cords, I just spent about a week drawing notes on the piano roll, it wasn't long until I found a huge selection of cord progressions, that I liked. There are only 12 keys so dont over think it.

When your experiment at draw midi out to make cords keep in mind where the fingers would be, that why You wont make something that sound strange because it requires 3 hands to play lol.

@@HOLLASOUNDS Reason is ace, totally slept on though. Probably because its not overly popular and very different to use as it's modular based. Reason carried the UK Bassline scene in the early/mid 2000s though

@@imryangallus Its semi modular in terms of its instruments system but I like it, and is the only system like it. I think its slept on because of Reasons marketing and often being one of the last to update the actual DAW, instead they focus on making devices to sell as extra costs.
