I use to own the dvd years ago, can't remember much about the picture quality though, the 4k looks gorgious in my opionion, I like the crystal smooth image because I think it looks better in all the water scenes. Directors cut of the movie is vastly superior to the theatrical in my opionion. Keep up the good work guys, you two are always entertaining!
There's no question that this 4K is a significant upgrade on the original, terrible, non-anamorphic DVD ! That said, it could have been better. Some scenes look very impressive now but there are a few (especially the ship scenes) that look a little too artificial/rendered/green-screened rather than natural, giving it a bit of an "avatar look"...it's "liveable" but not ideal. The introduction of the blue "sheen" in some scenes is also a down side, for example in your comparison at 1:57 I love the improvement in detail but the blue sheen is a horrible addition. As I say, significant upgrade, a recommended purchase if you like the movie and I'm happy I own it (I've watched it twice now) but this restoration could have been done better.

@Exor840 That was an artistic choice on Weaver's part... she realized that Ripley's pubes would grow while being in the hyper chamber and didn't want to ruin the audience's suspension of disbelief.
@@4K_Kings it was Matt’s “s,” sounds when he talks, that had some sort of high tint to it. Never happened with any of your other vids. Not sure what’s was up - could have just been my speakers.

I own both. I love this move, but the 4k is better. FYI, slightly unrelated, because of Russ, I bought Carlitos Way on 4k off Amazon on the 3 for $33 deal.
The thing that makes me sad is the color changes. I have it on LD 4x3 and it looks great but the 4K is obviously superior and those new color timing for scenes and the digital recoloring for the effects like the face having the original purple but everything else is blue in the 4k, ruins it for me. But since I only own the theatrical cut widescreen I might pick up the 4K for the longer cut with a different framing
@@ghostviggen You can literally see in clips used in this video that is not true and if you've seen 35mm theatrical prints, than you know this 4k is not at all naturally filmic in color or any aspect of presentation. as for the colors if you mean how the color gambit of hdr is wider than sd well thats just like the reason it was made; but for this specific 4k disc it is no way accurate to what the film original color grade was. the dvd is far more accurate to the theatrical color grade.
I’m sorry to ask this, but how old are you? Laserdisc 🤣 IMHO this new 4K disc is the best this movie has ever looked. However, that’s not to say it’s the best it will ever look.
Hehe. I was waiting for this question. I am 49. I like the natural look of the laserdisc. Lots of grain. Simular to the theatrical release. Doesn’t have the detail of the 35mm tape, obviously, but still very film-like.

They are just saying the 4K has more resolution than a dvd and while some scene are changed others aren’t and do reflect what the original film was but a majority don’t. Just look at the clips shown in the video. It’s ridiculous to say a dvd is better than a 4K when it comes to clarity which they are saying here with actual footage from both which is what you actually want😅 That said I have the laserdisc because it has mono stereo and Dolby digital 5.1 as was intended not the reworked audio that dvd has which is vastly inferior; only a fake fan and someone who is oblivious to knowledge would use or even recommend that release. It’s like watching the theatrical cut matted to 2:30 instead of the open 2:00. That’s just idiocracy! What moron that’s knows nothing would do that?🤦♀️
I think The Abyss looks amazing. I hate all the shit the new James Cameron recent releases are getting and don't understand why people want a sandstorm of film grain because that diminishes the quality in my point of view. True Lies is the worse out of the 3 and is a bit waxy but certainly not as bad as T2.
On dune the spice flows freely in the sandstorm. When they come to mine our spice with DNR & Grain scrubbing they taint the pure spice corrupting it, transferring it to a polished turd but instead on it being in SD the 4K clarity makes you think 1 tun of steel is heavier than 1 tun of feathers.
