If only they were educated in basic English and open up the Dictionary for the meaning of indigenous . Yet they call themselves Journalists , I don't think so !
The average Jamaicans have just been belittled by the Journalist with her stupid questions about attacking JDF and put up barb wire fence! They haven't done it in 200 years. TVJ please do better.
Very good point and I strongly agree with you. However, it is good that she asked about the JDF and wire fence because it addresses the niche of stupid persons who put these accusations out on the maroons.
Very impressed with the intelligent delivery of the Maroons hierarchy. Own the land on which you live. More power to the Maroons. Speak your words. I am enjoying your delivery.💐💐💐💐👋👋👋👋🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
@@RemixKingzMusic just enjoyed the depth and delivery of the information. Very educating and deep. So now the Maroons should give more speech such as this to let the world know who the Maroons are, people worldwide need to be educated as to the Maroons and their culture and beliefs. Medically world doctors need to understand that Maroon people do not like to take drugs as in pharmaceuticals, they are natural living and believe in natural herbal treatment. When Maroon we say we are Maroons we get raised eyebrows. I am from Portland. Please give more speeches on this unique set of people. We need more blogs. I loved the way the speakers explained the facts. I will most certainly be looking for more if this. One Love .
The Maroons are the original people of Jamaica. They need to be part of the government and make decisions to benefit the country. It is not only the Maroons are concerned about land in Jamaica. All Jamaicans don't want our country to be sold to investors. It is sad to see all the emancipation land in Jamaica sold to investors and the poor people are on what the government call capture land. More Jamaicans need to know their rights and be able to defend their rights base on the laws and treaty in Jamaica. I stand with the Maroons 🇯🇲

All the Maroons asking for, or, want is to be able to retain their land... inheritance, practice their culture and be left alone to live and die in peace. There are somethings that are sacred, and should remain sacred. I believe accompong village is one such place.
I really Respect Chief Currie's to enlighten the Peoples about the beneficial relationships that are created when settler governments and Indigenous Peoples honour Peace and Friendship Treaties. Out of One Land that We Love, Many Peoples Here is an opportunity to lift away from dispute, and enter into peaceful and respectful dialogue. Blessed Love, Peace and Respect, Kindred 🔥
This was a well expressed, clearly intelligent interview. So happy, we had the chance to hear them uninterrupted. The understanding is there for even a child that hears. For those oblivious to topics at hand, should shut up and take time to learn. To learn, one must be patient and be a good listener. What is obvious is the need by both parties, to meet in a public or private forum and clear up this wasteful classic PR mess. The media is also responsible for the mess at hand and must do what is right to make things right. Additionally, the nation obviously needs to be more educated on both entities, The Maroons and the current governmental system of our land.
I don't think it's a state in a state as the media gives it a negative sound. Maroons are Jamaicans but I feel they have indigenous right and nothing is wrong with that like in other countries. They are peaceful ppl and they r humble try to cooperate with everyone.

No one can erase history, whether it's good or bad. The maroons are not a threat to Jamaica or Jamaican. Why the prime Minister and his party members don't leave the maroons alone and let the people them lives their life in peace.
The people in St Mary are “independent people,” so government should give them “recognition,” too. Oh, and let’s not forget the people in St James, St Catherine, and St Thomas. Why should we stop there, since we are giving people “recognition” based on the fact that they are “independent people.” Let’s just look for every group of people who are “independent” and give them “recognition” (whatever that means……. to you).

Two groups own the land, the Maroons (indigenous peoples) and the the corporation called Jamaica of whom the prime minister is its CEO. Be wise and support the Maroons. Your fight should be against the crown (the unseen hand) who owns title to the corporation called Jamaica. Focus your fight there. Thrive to desolve that so the people can be free.
Stop fooling yourself and look up the meaning of " indigenous " in the English Dictionary . Your beliefs are built on false interpretations. Get some education . The closest connection to Maroons and being indigenous was the discovery of an indigenous Monkey that was in existence until the early 16th century . Apart from the Tainos who still exist in parts of St Elizabeth and Manchester .

@R. Walcott *Sovereignty* and *Autonomous* are completely separate. They are not seeking *Sovereignty* but rather to remain *Autonomous* based on the 1738 treaty and *United Nation* guidelines. Indigenous Peoples' *land ownership rights are recognized under international law.* States cannot relocate Indigenous Peoples without their free, prior and informed consent and without offering them adequate compensation. ... No Mrs. Miller, I disagree re that comment "the average Jamaican thinking that Maroons taking up guns to fight against JDF, etc. (paraphrasing). Since at NO POINT in time have the Maroons come across as aggressive, why would the "average Jamaican" think they are a threat to our safety?

The government only wants to discredit them and take their lands. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. Holiness is the worse thing that has happened to Jamaica. A complete sellout of the people and the land.
Amazing. I couldn’t hear what they were saying, I was too busy noticing that, this might be our last part of the island that still has a culture, and has not embraced a pseudo Americanization or Europeanization.
Let's get something clear, what's Americanization?🤔America or the Americas 🌎 are the continents of North America, South America and the adjoining Islands, sooo,we are Americans,or Amoorican,AL Moroccans. The United States of America 🇺🇸, is not the name of the country or land. The Indigenous and Aboriginal people of these lands are Moors, not Maroons= run away slaves.Slavs=Nationality of Eastern Europeans 🇪🇺. How are the maroons the indigenous ppl of Jamaica? Kmt pure politics. Intelligent yes but clearly very political and self seeking. I’d love to see the root cause at the end of this for I know it’s not just about land for the ‘poor disenfranchised maroons ‘.

This woman doing the interview was very hostile in tone and approach. I feel she needs to educate herself more on The Maroons and other African Sovereign Nations. It was as if she doesn't want them to be sovereign on a land their ancestors fought on and for. Chief Currie Continue The Legacy! I feel the Jamaican media needs to educate themselves a lot more, maybe if they worked with the Maroons and not against them they just might progress the overall country.
The Maroons were never invaded or taken over by anyone, they are still the original people, we are in their country even though I was born in NE St. Catherine.
Since it's their country what they need to do is run other Jamaicans who don't have any maroon ancestry out of their country and how is it that you feel you were born in their country if that's how you feel leave Jamaica. Because it isn't your country it's theirs oleg damn eeeedaaat
What a stupid question where is St Elizabeth is it not a part of Jamaica? So why is she asking him if they are Jamaicans this lady think she is smarter than anyone else. Good answer chief Currie you are Jamaican living on the Maroons land.
Actually, it was a brilliant question. A master stroke of interview journalism. And, if it were really a stupid and simple question, the answer should have been straight forward with a simple, “Yes.” However, instead of a direct “yes, we are Jamaicans” he played the verbal meandering game of vocabulary gymnastics, then got himself twisted until she stated that he had avoided answering the question. The question is very relevant because it was Currie who declared the Maroons “Sovereign.” Now, if you understand the meaning of the word, it implies separate state, separate government; and, in most cases, separate nationality. Therefore, it had to be cleared up with that very brilliant question. And, for the record, there are no levels to the meaning of “sovereign,” as he is stating. That would be a first for the English language. And, we will not allow him to make up definitions as he goes along. He may actually be confusing “sovereign” with “autonomy” and “semi-autonomy.”
WHY DIDN'T I GET TO HEAR WHAT THE AMBASSADOR WAS TRYING TO SAY ABOUT WHAT HE NOTICED ABOUT THE MEDIA. YOU MEDIA PEOPLE ARE MORE THAN SHADY. THE INTERVIEWER SOUNDS LIKE SHE WENT UP THERE WITH HER OWN IDEAS FORMULATED AND WAS TRYING TO TRICK THEM INTO SAYING WRONG THINGS. NOW I REALLY REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT BEING INFORMED AND EDUCATED IS. I'M SO PROUD OF HOW THE MAROONS HELD THEIR STAND. THE FIGHT THE JAMAICAN GOVERNMENT AND SOME OF THESE SHADY MEDIA PEOPLE ARE GIVING THE MAROONS IS SO DISGRACEFUL. THESE PEOPLE HAVE REMAINED ON THEIR LANDS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS PEACEFULLY, BUT GREED OVER MINING IN COCKPIT COUNTRY IS CAUSING SOME PEOPLE TO BE ON A SMEAR CAMPAIGN TO TRY TO MAKE THE MAROONS LOOK BAD. GREAT JOB CHIEF CURRIE AND AMBASSADOR! STAND FOR YOUR RIGHTS.
