I hate to be the guy who has to StarWars-splain things, but the reason why the temple caught on fire and the reason why there are fires in space is because, as has been shown canonically time and again, The Force is flammable. It's everywhere, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship. And even in space. This is a direct byproduct of there being no OSHA in Star Wars (besides Osha in this series, that is). There's no handrails. Exhaust ports are just left wide open. And everything catches on fire because The Force is just constantly filling every void.

The writing could simply be not good, but given how Torbin willingly drank the poison and said "We thought we were doing the right thing" last episode I can't believe that what we saw this episode was the entire truth of what happened.

The issue with the fire is that it looks like a campfire just burning in a room not like gas rushing out into a vacuum. Explosions in space are fine this campfire just looks dumb and lazy

I would say between Torbin drinking poison and Mae's genuine anger towards the Jedi, and the pile of unburnt Coven bodies we saw... that "Theory 2", that this was only a partial reveal of what happened that night and the Jedi were more involved, is the clearest reading of this episode. I get that its probably supposed to be a "twist" but Im surprised that so many people are actually taking this episodes ending at face value.

I’m a middle aged man who grew up on the original trilogy, read the books long before the prequels came around. However I never read up on the High Republic. I never played the High Republic video games. Nor have I read the comic book. The Acolyte assumes I have. I have no understanding or working foundation on what makes this era “peak prosperity” for the Galactic Republic. I grew up on the Jedi as warrior unbiased arbitrators. The Acolyte made them out to be shady ACS (Administration for Child Services) social workers who interrupted “Space Lamaze” Class in order to take some poor space woman’s kids away to convert them into soldiers in the Jedi order

That's how some people would view the Jedi though it's understood by fans that if the Jedi don't train force users from a young age they can become very dangerous individuals. Different conflicting perspectives. It's called interesting writing.

The show basically assumes you know what Star Wars and Jedi are and that’s about it. It’s challenging the views on what Jedi are perceived to be, which is something a lot of continuations of stories do for a reason. That said, this is basically out of Lucas’ playbook on what was wrong with the Jedi and why they were eventually wiped out by the Sith. You can see all of this clumsily told in the prequels and better told in the animated shows that were created under Lucas. I don’t particularly like this show so far, but it’s not assuming anything we don’t already know. Aside from maybe witch force babies.

The show actually just showed Mae burning the book. After that it cuts to Osha with the door on fire. We dont necessarily know that it was spread intentionally by Mae.... we will see.

This episode was from the twins’ perspective, mainly Osha’s. I can see it implicating the Jedi less. Let’s hope future episodes show other perspectives

It was messy and we don't know much because they left many things a mystery for future episodes but they way they left things a mystery sloppy. We haven't seen the whole picture. Its a wait and see but I just don't have any faith they will answer the question in a satisfying way. It was a clunky episode with writing and pacing. I won't lie. I've never been a fan of the Nightsisters and what they bring to Star Wars. I've always kinda tolerated them. Don't like adding Witches to Star Wars. To tolerated them. I've always seen them as abusing the force to their will and do the things they do. They are expending whats already there from the EU. This episode showed a different coven but I couldn't find them interesting. I can respect if people enjoy this show. The show just isn't for me so far. Loved Andor and was hoping this show would surprised me like Andor did but right now. I'm left frustrated to the point I might stop watching and check/listen to reviews.

The writing for this show is nonsensical. If the Jedi needed permission to test the kids, why didn’t the coven just say no, you can’t test them, kick rocks…instead of the silly strategy for the girls to lie and fail the test on purpose when they should know the Jedi have mind trick/reading abilities? So many nitpicks…including the lame song/interpretive dance number smh

I don't understand the take some people have that this episode showed the whole truth of the events, and are frustrated with it. Are they watching the show? The first 2 episodes made it clear that something bad happened on Brendok, and that the Jedi are hiding something about it. Guilt drove one of the Jedi to commit suicide, and another to leave to live in a cabin in the woods out somewhere. The events depicted in episode 3 were not the whole truth of the matter. Now, whether the eventual answer after the Mystery Box opens all the way is any good or not is yet to be seen.

I think it's fairly obvious that the apothecary is the Sith and that he was secretly present and caused the coven's death while manipulating everyone to think the other party was responsible.
@troyareyes
@troyareyes 3 месяца назад
there is no way Aniseya was okay with Osha joining the jedi. in that scene she tells Osha to run along while she discusses it. I'm almost certain she went to the coven and was all "we gotta jump those fuckers when they come back" lol Also the trailers show that we are going to return to this flashback, so we are certainly going to see the second half of this story.
@aperson4640
@aperson4640 3 месяца назад
Maybe but that doesn't explain how four Jedi killed a huge group of force users without taking any casualties. I think the apothecary who is secretly the Sith was present and poisoned the coven and manipulated everyone that someone else did it.

Of course the Jedi did it. They've had accusations and implications in the earlier episodes that the Jedi murdered people.

So I have (fraternal) twin daughters about that age, and one is enthusiastically working at becoming her own person with hobbies and interests separate from her sister, while her sister is the more clingy of the two. So the emotional core of Osha and Mae's relationship rang true for me, even if the writing and acting of it didn't always support it. And I definitely agree there's more to what we saw in this episode (Torbin wasn't talked into suicide last episode over guilt for a tragic accident, no way) and I trust the showrunner of Russian Doll to have something more up her sleeve. It was a bit weird how standoffish the girls were to Koril their birth mother and always deferred to Aniseya, making the whole situation feel like Koril's merely a surrogate with no more parental authority than any other member of the coven. But it's still early and we haven't even learned the Wookie's deal yet, so I'll give it some more time.

Lauren and Leah Brady are eleven years old. And so they are fully capable of watching, understanding, and feeling the full humiliation of your irresponsible comments here about their acting. There is no such thing as a bad acting performance by a child. There is only bad direction of child actors. Any alternative to this view is ghastly. Which is exactly how I find it when two grown men laugh while directing pot shots at the performances of two young girls.
