Turbin took the poison rather than fight her and/or confess his "crime" to the Jedi Council. I can't picture something horrendous enough to kill myself, other than literally being the one(s) that deliberately started a fire to deliberately kill many people to cover something up. The fact that it doesn't make perfect sense is what i really like about this show. Thank you, guys, for the positive, upbeat reactions!

My feelings exactly. Look where the 4 of them ended up. One taking a job on a backwater outpost when they should be on the Jedi council. Another going into a trance for 10 years. Another living in exile in a shipwreck. And the last leaving field work to teach younglings. It has to be bad.

@orcasin112 I agree. It's slowly swelling up to be this big horrible event. It better pay off. It's not even a good edging either. Everything seems so completely chill outside of direct conflict. I don't really feel much tension quite honestly.

Yord reminds me so much of Anakin. He acts like a Jedi, trying to be stoic and level-headed, but as soon as any issue occurs, he pulls out his saber and seems quick to temper. He’s ready to attack and ready to intimidate and question a witness in order to get their information. On the other hand, Sol seems like the perfect Jedi. He is calm and patient, and shows how he believes that peace and talking can help others, as opposed to fighting. Heck, even his fighting style seems to be solely based around defensiveness. He blocks and dodges, and uses his opponents momentum to spin them around and move them out of the way. It really shows the difference between the times of Jedi, with Sol representing the Jedi of the High Republic, as he never draws his saber, and he’s calm and collected and doesn’t want to fight. Meanwhile, Yord represents who the Jedi will become, as he immediately pulls out his saber and he’s always the first person to suggest just diving head-first into conflict.

I love how Master Torbin was participating in the Barash Vow, we only see it a few times in star wars media. Most known from The Darth Vader comics with Jedi Master Kirak Infil'a who survived order 66 because he was disconnected from the order when participating. It's sort of like a therapy for Jedi to find their inner-peace while also making themselves separate from others.

Calling it now: Qimir is totally the Sith. Maybe he's not even the one in the suit, but he's been goading Mae along, nonchalantly indoctrinating her with lines from the Sith code, and you're absolutely right that his whole everything is an act. Fun fact: A "chimere" is the name of a Bishop's ceremonial outer garment. Also, one of the meanings of "chimera" is a person possessing tissues or genetic components from more than one individual. Pretty heavy that after ten years of meditation seeking atonement, Master Torbin DOES NOT hesitate the moment he's offered an end to his guilt by Mae (does he think it's Osha?), who he thinks he wronged 16 years prior. I love that, again, just when you think they're about to sow drama and doubt amongst the characters regarding Osha's innocence, they put it to bed and get on with the story instead.

I didn't consider this idea before Kyle brought it but I really like it. He wouldn't be a Sith though just a Dark Side Force User. I guess he could be a Sith, but the only way that would work is if he died without that being revealed, or if any of these characters found out they kept it secret from the entire Jedi order. Because in TPM, it is established that the Jedi believe the Sith have been gone for a millennia.

Mae and Indara "Jedi only draw their blade to kill" Yord: Glowy sword go woosh. Genuinely though I'm loving the emphasis on the difference in style for the High Republic Jedi here - to note the two masters and their dodge only style is reminding me of The Grand Inquisitor and later Barriss, having just rewarched Tales of the Empire. Lastly, thanks again for bringing such a positive vibe, even when you have critiques it's still in a loving way and the fandom really needs more of this energy ❤️ see you in the third one.

Kyle I watched this show and I have some thoughts that have me thinking. 1. Osha's tattoo. This will be important and Sol will have an edge because of it. 2. Osha and Mae did not start the fire. Sol talked to Osha about her revenge on her sister who every one says started the fire. Osha believed what she was told. As for Mae, I bet we will find out that she didn't either and her thoughts about it. I think someone started the fire to get the twins. They wanted both of them but things got out of hand. 3. What if....what if Sol is not one of the 4 she wants to kill? I just have a feeling that he is not. (or I don't want him involved in whatever those Jedi did). Also, when I saw Mae offer that poison to Master Torbin, I got into my Sherlock Holmes feels (the book "A Study in Scarlet"). With that said, what really happened that awful day? He took poison instead of going to the Jedi Council. Something had to happen besides the fire. I need to watch 1 &2 again.

Sol may be the target for whoever influences Mae. The "true Jedi" who needs to be killed to have the Order on the path to the Prequels decline. And since he was present at the events around the fire, even if not necessarily guilty, it makes it easy to convince Mae he was.

I enjoyed the discussions! Two things I heard from you that did not occur to me while watching the episodes are: 1. Qimir might be Mae's master and only pretending to be someone lesser assisting her, and 2. That maybe Mae did not start the fire. I think you may be right about the first. It probably makes sense that this dark master prefers to keep all this between just the two of them instead of recruiting a third person to help. Could also somewhat explain why the voice at the end of the last episode sounded weird, like robotic, as if it's cloaked deliberately so no one would recognize the voice. I wonder if throughout the years the master was training her, it was from afar like that? As for the second, I'm not so sure. I think Mae did start the fire... In any case, they (the 4 Jedi targets) seem to have done something that they tried to cover up. The question is what is it? Initially, when I was watching the episodes, I thought maybe they were fully aware that Mae was alive but they left her for dead. I wonder if this is something anyone else (i.e., the Council) was aware of, or if it's a secret among just the 4 of them. That Mae had a twin was not in the records, so perhaps it's the latter. And it really does seem they knew she was alive, because why would Torbin have been waiting for her if he thought she was dead? This brings me to something you pointed out in episode 1 regarding why would Indara not be able to sense that 2nd blade attack from the left hand that killed her. Well, maybe it's not that she didn't sense it. It's just that, in addition to choosing to save that bartender instead, she already recognized (or sensed/knew it was) Mae at that point and, much like Torbin, thought that somehow she deserved to die as some sort of penance for what they did 16 years ago. Which means that when Sol instantly believed Osha when she said her sister was alive, it's not really because he had faith in her or anything, it's because he already knew all along, and in fact kept it hidden from her all these years that her sister's alive. One last thing before something that might be spoilery... I do think Mae started the fire. I'm not sure but, my impression was that this was a magically started fire. I don't know if all (or any) Force users can start fires, but the thought that came to me when it was said that Mae started a fire that killed her family, was that she started it magically, as opposed to playing with matches or something. And maybe this somehow connects with that little girl in class who said she saw fire, and Sol kind of reacted to that. His reaction to me was like surprise or shock as if fire is something negative (compared to what the other 2 students mentioned earlier), but he caught himself and said something positive. Finally, the thing that MIGHT BE SPOILERY... Maybe it isn't, I'm not sure. I never saw the trailer, maybe it was mentioned there. But as I was writing this long-ass novel, I took a quick look at the wikipedia page just to check the spelling of Qimir's name (I couldn't find it in the end credits) and I saw something... Osha and Mae's mother is supposed to be a force witch or something? I don't even know what a force witch is, but from the word witch, I imagine it's more a dark side thing? Maybe? So maybe the bad thing that the 4 jedi did was... maybe they killed the parents? Maybe the family didn't die in the fire. Maybe they were killed before the fire was started. Maybe Mae saw her parents killed and because of that, somehow she started a fire? And Sol said he tried to save them both, but maybe Mae did not want to go with them because she saw them kill her parents. And so they left her... for dead... And they only took Osha and told her that her sister started the fire that killed them all... Btw: another thing I saw in the wiki page is the twins kind of represent yin and yang, so... light and dark?

Now that Mae has seen her sister alive and well, i hope the thirst for revenge dries up and she switches sides At the same time though, i fear that Osha will switch to the other side because her faith in the Jedi may dry up as well soon enough; plus she may want to make sure Osha never loses Mae again so she'd want to be as close to Mae as possible I read the philosophical elements of good and evil (jedi and sith) will be explored and the twins will definitely be the at the forefront Relationships will be tested here, no doubt about it Qimir is definitely hiding something; he may well be the shady figure behind all this, just like Palpatine hiding in plain sight He's about the same height as the figure and that dodging he did was too precise for a random peasant-like survivor/smuggler to just be good at coincidentally And knowing how to make Bunta so effortlessly is sus too I give the premiere episodes an aggregate score of 8/10, losing points because of how short they are Can't wait for next week!

I'm really fascinated by a lot of reveals and new mysteries about Mae. She's not this experienced assassin of dark, she's someone who's still figuring out things and has a lot of insecurities, while at the same time she wants to prove something. And something tells me there's still some light in her. She reminds me of Kylo in a lot of ways. I absolutely didn't expect that she had no idea Osha was alive. What the heck happened? I assumed in the first episode that she resents Osha because she thinks Osha left her to die, but apparently not. How did that fire go down? Like you guys speculated in the first episode, was the Jedi actually responsible? I'm sure the reveal about what really happened is going to be the turning point that ties everything together. What the heck is going on with those Force dreams Osha has been having? Clearly they aren't illusions made by Mae, as i initially assumed. And Mae hasn't been getting them, is it because she's along the path of the dark side? I'm really excited to learn more about them.

Great reaction and very insightful comments . Two episodes in and I am really enjoying Acolyte , its not to the high bar level of Andor but it is no way to the low bar of Boba Fett either , at the moment is is in between . I have read so many hater comments that Acolyte is the worst show ever and that Star Wars is dead etc , criticisms that you cannot physically have fire in space which is true but by that thinking the Tie Fighters would not make their fly by scream and all space battles would be in total silence as there is no sound in a vacuum , other criticisms are about Osha surviving the crashing prison ship , well if you don't like that did you not like Penguins car flipping over multiple times in The Batman and Oz surviving maybe they could have added a bruise , broken arm etc to Osha but you have to suspend a certain amount of belief , other haters did not like Indara dying personally I think it just reinforces that fact that while Jedi are powerful they are not unkillable or immortals . Your reaction was great and very positive and I have watched a handful of reactors react well to this show but for the most part reactions and reviews have been very negative , I think that it has now become fashionable to bash Star Wars these days . Both eps were well paced and well acted Lee Jung Jae is fantastic as Sol he brings so much to the character and his performance just as Liam did with Qui Gon , Amandla is terrific as Osha , Mae giving very little differences and subtle nuances in her dual role , in fact the only performance I find a bit muted is Daphne Keen but I think that is more my expectations after Daphne was so great as X 23 . The effects , ship and droid design are very well done with the Ships , Craft being familiar but not so sleek and slimline as they are later on , the creature effects are great too and way better being practical than CGI , the costumes are great and very imaginative and the location shooting looks way better than using the volume . I like the story structure being very much a mystery and the implications that the Jedi were involved in some shady acts and covered it up . Personally I think all the Disney Star Wars shows have ranged from Amazing - Andor to disappointing but still perfectly watchable like Boba Fett and Obi Wan the two weakest entries but neither of those shows are to the level of awfulness that the Batgirl show was I tuned in for the first two episodes of Batgirl and that and then dumped it . My ranking of all the shows so far is thus . 1. Andor . 2. The Mandalorian . 3 . Ahsoka . 4. Obi Wan Kenobi . 5 . The book of Boba Fett . If Acolyte carries on like this I would probably place it 4th place after Ahsoka and before Obi Wan , but we shall see .

Good Review. I think a lot of people who have issue w/show have more issues w/show runner action/lack of action and actors comments off screen. Just taking the show as presented, while different, not bad. Not Andor/Mando level, pero solid so far

I like Master Sol, both the character and the actor. When you need rescuing. “Better Call Sol”. I understand the actor does not speak English. That reminds of Gert Frobe, the actor who portrayed Goldfinger. He could not understand English, but should seem to speak if fluently on film.

LETS KRIFFING GO!!!!! Waiting for another day for Kyle/Bendu's reaction was worth it, and the way Sol blocked and dodged Mae's attacks is once again Matrix/Crouching Tiger vibes in it. The Barash Vow being mentioned from the comics to live action is a beautiful refence to when Darth Vader fought a Jedi who took the same vow after Order 66. Tis episode definitely feels like an assassins creed to it.

I’m enjoying this show also this is a murder mystery type of Star Wars that is very new to us. I would like to know what are the 4 Jedi responsible for that made Mae decide to get revenge on them also who is her Master which is keeping me intrigued and interested.

Qmir knows waaaaaaay too much to be a mere fixer. Bro leads off with the Sith Code to lecture Mae. ⛩️👀⛩️ If Mae wanted to prove herself to "The Master" she would have gone full Hannibal Lechter on Torben and had him turn his lightsabre on himself (killing the dream) rather than resorting to the poison.🤔 *Breaking HoloNewsNet Update* Unregulated Force User used [Pocket Sand] on Jedi investigators... it was super effective.🤘😏

Whatever happened with Mae and Osha's family has to be very bad because Mae wants her revenge. The 4 Jedi involved all took very different paths afterwards. One went to the Outer Rim as a form of exile. One went into a trance for 10 fucking years as a penance! One lives in the wreckage of a ship in the woods. And the last took a teaching job with younglings instead field work. So it has to be heinous.

I also think that Mae's (sp?) contact is more than he seems. His "stupid" act is pretty good, but is just an act. I wonder if the one with the mask is just another Acolyte and the guy is the true master. There's no reason they wouldn't go against the Rule of Two.

Very interesting episodes. They didn't wasted time on going right to the action. With the mystery of what happened on Osha's homeworld only being brought later in episode 2. Why both sisters were thinking the other was dead? And what "sin" those 4 Jedi(Indara, Torbin, Kelnacca and Sol) commited that Torbin accepted killing himself when confronted by Mae? Master Sol wears his emotions on the sleeve, which is kinda nice. A lot better than being stuck up like Yord who is always talking regulations while being really trigger happy with his lightsaber. Much better than acting like Master Vernestra. They literally know where Mae is going but she wants to stop to debate. Debate what? You know where the killer is going to be. Whoever that "Darth Shark" is i believe he/she has more than one acolyte. Qimir knows way too much about the 4 Jedi targets Mae needs to kill to prove herself. Plus he is quoting the Sith code and clearly has some fighting skill. So i get the feeling he is also another acolyte. By the way nice touch with the Barash Vow. That was right out of the Darth Vader comics books. And there was a selkath too at the Jedi temple. Plus the Jedi temple outpost, i quite like the idea Jedi still aren't so centralized a century before Sidious started his machinations.

YES twins in star wars has a strong connection with each other so thats where this story doesn't make sense. I can understand if they were at the far ends of the galaxy and can't detect each other, but being on the same planet and in the same vicinity and still cannot feel that the other one is still alive? I don't buy it
