Lightwhips are found in the Star Wars EU. So I think this is the first time they have been canon.

First canon live action appearance, yes. Vernestra Rwoh's whip debuted in canon back in 2021 in comics and novels.

This episode was very intriguing. Venestra is being quite suspicious with wanting to lead the rescue mission, then we have Qmir saying that long ago he used to be a Jedi and it seems his Master(?) literally stabbed him on the back. It seemed more like he was hit with a lightsaber whip on his back. The scar wasn't a straight line. Plus they had that very gratuitous scene of Venestra using her whip to kill one of those bugs. Now Sol is also going obssessed with finding Osha and Qmir, even if that mean ignoring his Jedi superiors. Plus it seems he is preparing to tell Mae what happened in Brendok. I feel like Episode 8 will end up being a big three way fight involving Qmir/Osha, Sol/Mae and Venestra/her Jedi squad.

The Stranger is learning from his mistake from Mae. He put Mae at arms length while with Osha he's trying to build a genuine connection

Its also because Mae and Osha are different with different goals. The show has pulled a fast one by positioning Mae as "bad," and Osha as "good." In reality, the only things Mae cares about are her family, and getting justice for them. She's not evil, and has no real interest in the Dark side or any Sith teachings or anything like that. In her view, the Jedi murdered her entire family in cold blood, and kidnapped her sister after leaving Mae to die in a fire. Her involvement with Smilo Ren is just a means to an end. Osha, on the other hand, is selfish, driven primarily by her own needs and desires, and doesn't really care what effect her actions have on others. She is highly emotional, but not in an intelligent way (like Mae,) her emotions are impulsive and ego-driven. She senses her own power, and wants to use it. If the Jedi can help her do that, then she wants to be a Jedi. That didn't work out, so she withdrew to lick her wounds until realizing that there are other options (something she discovers in episodes 6, 7 and 8.) So, when Qimir approaches Mae, he uses what she wants and needs...the desire to bring the Jedi to justice for what they did. That won't work with Osha, however, because honestly, she doesn't really care about others the way Mae does. With Osha, Qimir focuses on bringing out her power and her desire, seducing her both in the "seduced by the Dark side," sense, and also literally seducing her romantically. By placing Osha at the center of everything, treating her as an equal, and being welcoming to all the things the Jedi thought were flaws, he can use her narcissism and ambition as a wedge to split her from her former allegiance to the Jedi. I also think that Qimir sees a reflection of himself in Osha, like a kindred spirit, and is personally interested in her...or at least as interested in another person as a Rule of Two era Sith can be. SPOILER ALERT: Mae and Osha are literally the same person, not twins, a single consciousness split into two bodies. This is why they are different from each other despite being the same person. Mae has the better aspects of this person, while still being flawed and capable of doing bad things. Osha has the more negative aspects of this person, while still being capable of doing good things. In addition to their initial positioning (Mae is aligned with the bad guy, and Osha is aligned with the good guys,) their clothing indicates who they are. Mae is shown wearing dark clothing, while Osha is placed into "civilian robes," that force her to wear white. This makes the audience identify Mae as bad and Osha as good. Later, as the truth starts to be revealed, the "twins" switch colors, with Mae now wearing white, which is much more representative of her, and Osha wearing black, revealing who she really is.

They have shown the long awaited Vernesstra's whip on the same episode as Qimir s scar... Suspicious and evident.

@@LegendsofPodcasting since Tales of the Empire and of the Jedi when they've started this Double Stories one going Dark one going Light, this Stories also can go so many posible ways when both the Twins find out what really happen that night on Brendok. Now I also wanna know what Vernesstra and Sol saw each one on Qimir and Osha that scared them. I think Qimir story about how he got the scar is very different to how his Old Jedi Master remembers it. So let's soon find out hopefully... Greetings from Mexico City! Hope you react to Lego Star Wars Rebuild of Galaxy.

Manny is 37 in real life. Since actors almost always play younger, let's say that Qimir is 35. We have no idea when he left the Jedi, but we know that he was old enough to be an actual apprentice, which happens in adolescence. Let's say he was 15 when Venestra whipped his ass out of the Order. That's 20 years, and if you're 35, then 20 years is, "a really long time ago."

Qimir/the Stranger DID say that the helmet blocks out all sensory senses, all this is in it is *you and the Force.* The Whip Saber has been in a few books.

@@LegendsofPodcasting Hmm...maybe it does that as well. I looked in Wookieepedia for info: ~'Cortosis Weapons'~ *Cortosis blade *Cortosis gauntlet - They weighed 1 kg and cost 1,500 credits]*Cortosis shield *Cortosis shot - A slugthrower projectile that was made out of the metal cortosis and used by Cad Bane in 21 BBY. This bullet, upon striking a lightsaber blade, would cause the blade to short out, giving the shooter an advantage over the lightsaber wielder. However, Bane stated that the bullets were expensive and hard on the slugthrower's barrel.*Cortosis staff *Cortosis-weave *Cortosis-weave armor ** It could also redirect the heat of explosions, as discovered when General Anakin Skywalker attempted to collapse the entrance of a cortosis mine, and the resulting explosion breached through Mokivj's crust. Apart from its physical properties, cortosis could also affect a Force-sensitive's ability to use the Force, as *helmets made from the material isolated the wearer's thoughts and prevented others from sensing them.*

I'm pretty sure light whips have been seen in either Rebels or Resistance. Though it could have just been an electrified whip and not a light whip, because I don't remember it cutting anything. Regardless, like others have told you, it is from the High Republic books. I assume they're going to explain eventually that the Jedi Order forbid anyone to use them because of how dangerous they can be. Probably the result of an accidental civilian killing or something. Or maybe a Jedi accidentally killing either their master or padawan. It would be really dark, but it would make sense.

Did you guys not see the 2 hooded characters behind the witches in episode 3 ritual scene, could be darth tantabrus & darth sidious, this guy smilo ren is most probably an apprentice of one of them & maybe his surname is Ren & he becomes the legend & the start of the knights of ren, smilo ren will die in this season but in the comics when the legend of ren gets killed his armour gets past down to other knights of ren members(acolytes) I love this show, great reaction as always
