The background characters are far more interesting than the twins. Honestly, the show should have been about 'Smylo Ren's' journey as an Acolyte. This show should have been full of scenes like Sidious and Maul on Coruscant, sneaking and plotting in the shadows. The Jedi should have no idea, witnesses or holo recordings of who is killing Jedi until the reveal at the final episode which ends in all Jedi who encounter the Sith dying.

The rule of two was not established to keep the Sith secret, but to keep the Sith alive. Big difference, because they were their own worst enemy, their infightings killed way more Sith than the Jedi ever could. With only two Master and Apprentice were dependent on each other to a certain degree, until it was time for one of them to look for a new Apprentice.

HOTD isn't struggling. I mean, it's not getting the hype that it got in the first season, but its not getting panned the way Acolyte is. And give me a break. A bunch of Jedi go investigate an evil force user and never come back and the Jedi council just forgets it and assumes its all fine? I never guessed Carrie Ann Moss wouldn't make it out of the first episode. All of this show's marketing gave her top billing as if the show was all about her for months.

The Apprentice recruits an Acolyte to defeat the Master. They usually pin Acolytes against each other for a “last one standing” kind of deal. The rule of two only applies to a Master that holds the power and an Apprentice to crave it. An apprentice cannot defeat a master on their own typically. Palpatine was an exception to that but we never knew if he had an acolyte before he killed Plagueis. Qi’mir is the Sith Apprentice. And I have strong reasons to suspect Darth Tenebrous (Plagueis’ master) is the Sith Lord. The biggest is that Leslye Hedland loves those books that depict the story of Tenebrous and Plagueis.

The show spent 3 episodes telling you that the Jedi are full hubris and think that the only possible explanation for all of this is a rogue Jedi. Nowhere in their realm of possibilities is there a chance of anything like the Sith being involved. Hell, Qimir stood in front of them and they were still like, "So which rogue Jedi are you 🤪" And if you think thats bad writing, just remember that when Qui-Gon Jinn stood in front of the Jedi council and told them what he saw, they were still like, "Nope, not possible. The rule of 2 has NEVER been followed. There is always 1 sith 1 apprentice. Then the apprentice ALWAYS has their own apprentice. Vader had 1, palpatine had 2. And why dont inquisitors count? The rule of 2 is stupid. No one would train someone to kill them. Its a way to make sure ALL the secrets die. The leader would keep secrets in otder to prevent assassination. But the apprentice always seeks out their own apprentice well before theceeath of the master. I think kamir, or whoever this guy is, he might be on his own. He may not have a master.

The Master has an Apprentice and is always looking for that Apprentices replacement. And the Apprentice is always trying to become the Master so they're looking for an Apprentice themself. Ok thought about this Saul is acting like a true sith keeping his secrets (probably started the fire that killed the parents) and now, after this episode, he has a protege with him that is mendable (leans dark). My prediction... Saul kills the pretender in the finally saying something like (true Sith hide their darkness) and he molds his new apprentice. The Pretender gets betrayed by his double and she is his downfall (compassion * a jedi trait* led him to keep her alive). PS the pretenders double probably dies in the process making the other twin more resolute in her path.

The contrast of how good the writing, dialogue, world building, and characters are in House of the Dragon could not be more glaring when compared to how bad they all are in The Acolyte as they are airing simultaneously. It is really striking to go back and forth and see one that has so much depth and quality and another that is completely lacking it. Yet they cost the same to produce. I really enjoy Grace's videos for the coverage of Hollywood and the sausage-making if you will. Funny enough, I rarely agree with her judgment or critique on things. First time I felt that way about a show I look forward to Contant creators interpretations more than the actual show. And now with this episode, I’m watching your breakdown before if ever I watch the show. That’s a shift.

No Grace. This show is bad cause OBVIOUSLY the creators no nothing of the rich mythos of Star Wars. They're retconning the Prequels and not doing it well at all. The villain called himself a Sith when a Millennia after Darth Maul was threatened to not reveal himself by the Emperor. Nothing makes sense cause they don't understand the material nor the force.

I find this show so frustrating. We’re five episodes in and I still couldn’t tell you any of the main characters motivations. ESPECIALLY the twins. In one episode OSHA cares about her sister and then in the next she doesn’t even wanna go on the trip to find her. Don’t even get me started on Mae. Her motivations have changed every single episode. The only two characters that were barely interesting are now dead. This shows writing is failing from a narrative point of view AND a character writing point of view. And unfortunately I agree with Grace. It feels like it’s building to what will ultimately be nothing. And that’s not even to mention the dialogue. It’s just so blunt, all tell and no show. It acts like it’s too smart to be a children’s show, but the actual children’s cartoons like Bad Batch are so much better written than this. Was Russian Doll better written than this? Is Head

@-AtomsPhere-

@@evilgenius178 don’t condescend to me and belittle me. My comment was clearly about CHARACTER MOTIVATIONS not plot. Even in a mystery you should have an understanding of the characters and what is driving them forward in the plot. These characters flip flop every episode which makes what they’re doing profoundly uninteresting. A good mystery knows what information to give to keep the watcher invested. Also, in your opinion what even IS the big mystery at this point? At first it seemed like the mystery was going to be “who is the Jedi killer?” Then that was revealed immediately. Then the question became “who is the master?” Now that was just revealed to be the completely obvious choice. So the only “mystery” remaining is I guess, “what actually happened the night the witch coven was killed?”. Well that’s not a very interesting question either because no one knows or cares enough about those characters to be invested. It’s bad writing is my point. And just revealing random pieces of the plot DOES NOT an interesting mystery make.

Episode rating 8/10 1. How do you kill a Jedi without a weapon… you turn them. - to me this idea is brilliant, you literally break them down until they become the very thing they swore to defend against. They become the enemy. We finally get a StarWars project with lightsaber fights that have the same tenacity as the clone wars shows. Very few times if any maybe duel of the fates a little bit where the combat is so fast fluid and precise. This show made me feel like a kid again. No other Disney project has ever had me on the edge of my seat. Jecki is what we should have gotten in the Ashoka flashback. Sol and Jecki had more coordination fighting than we have seen from any two Jedi in live action together besides maybe obiwan and Anakin in revenge of the Sith except Sol and Jecki communicate and isn’t hot headed to let her emotions take over. It’s almost like she has more control than SOL does. Not only with weighted sabers did they make every scene look so fluid but the stunts and force abilities felt practical and of good use. I love the fact we actually see a ton of force incorporated with these stunts. “You followed a false master, so did you” I think is very telling because it insinuates Quimir isn’t an actual master. “A master and an apprentice” I do not think we have seen the master yet. “But Jedi like you might call me Sith” This is a clear indication that he is quite literally not a Sith. This clearly demonstrates that he acknowledges his dark abilities but chooses neither faction as a means to once again freely use the force. This is the best choreography hands down since the prequels. All actors put so much work and effort into these sequences. Brilliant performances with lightsaber dueling on a level we have not seen since ROTS. The brutality of the way they all died. It was a fun watch. I’m interested to know where Quimir was trained and he weirdly imply that Sol knows his master… or is his master (possibly). I think this episode will get a lot of people upset for the simple fact this is the most entertaining 30 minutes of lightsaber fighting put to screen and it was from Disney and brought to us by Leslie Headland with an incredible crew. 3 more episodes to go… I don’t know what else to say. This mystery thriller vibe is haunting and the entire fight scene felt like a horror movie where you know no one is making it out alive. Except the obvious 4.

True, the fight choreography was awesome but that is about it. The writing in the previous 4 episodes did not make us care about most of the jedis so watching the fights was like going to a theme park and watching cool stunts but we the audience did not feel involved with anxiety waiting to see the outcome. And the dialog in between and after the fights is bad and cheesy.

I don’t think Disney are worried about messing up Star Wars cannon. For a start if he is Sith , how on earth will he fit in the timeline ? Rule of two was in effect the moment Zana killed bane. This guy should not be looking for an apprentice. Bane describes the method of the rule of two like venom or a poison. The more you dilute it the weaker it gets. You only have two as the venom/poison is not diluted and becomes weak.
